1 Side/window Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2018

Takata recall I am the original owner of a 2008 Tahoe lt 4wd and have contacted asheville Chevrolet in asheville, nc on a couple of occassions regarding this airbag recall, most recently about 1 year ago when I noticed that the dash was starting to crack particuliarly two cracks near the passenger side airbag. The service manager came out and looked at the dash and advised me that this is a common problem with dash cracking in Tahoe models and was not related to the takata recall but that there was also not a recall on the dash cracking around the airbag. I am a retired law enforcement officer that used to supervise a traffic safety unit and am a certified traffic crash reconstructionist, this problem with the dashboards cracking needs to be further investigated by NHTSA to determine if it is in fact related to the takata recall and escalate gm to replace the dashes and /or takata airbags if it is.

2 Side/window Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2018

Takata recall. My airbag has not been replaced by gm. My dashboard is cracked all around the passenger side airbag container. My car repeatedly notifies me that my airbag needs servicing. Gm needs to replace it. I go onto gm and get the attached message. Gm needs to replace with some replacement airbag soon.

3 Side/window Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2017

Takata recall. My drivers side air bag has a recall and the dealer tells me there is an incomplete remedy and so they cannot replace my air bag. I have not had any damage to my vehicle yet.

4 Side/window Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 05/17/2017

Takata recall. The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 16v381000 (air bags). The part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact called westside Chevrolet at (281) 392-3200 (23001 katy fwy, katy, TX, 77450) and was informed that the parts were not available. The contact stated that the dashboard was cracked on the driver's side air bag location. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and was not able to confirm when the parts were to become available. The failure mileage was unknown. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

5 Side/window Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 01/11/2016

There is a crack in the dash that extends from the passenger side airbag area. I am concerned with the fact that if the airbag were to deploy it could propel plastic material into the cabin and at the passengers.

6 Side/window Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2015

All six side airbags on our 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe deployed while my wife was driving the vehicle with our two children in their rear car seats. There was no impact, bump, pot-hole or any other reason apparent to us why the airbags deployed. It was completely random. No one was injured and my wife maintained control of the vehicle to a safe stop, but she was stunned and disoriented. The damage to our vehicle is extensive. In addition to replacing six airbags, light fixtures, plastic molding, the roof panel and fabric/liner are all damaged. At this point, the dealer is not helping at all. We have contacted gm but they have not responded after 2 days. We believe this is not only a product liability issue that gm should repair, but also a major safety issue. We are all very fortunate that this did not result in a single or multi-vehicle accident, injuries related to the accident, or injuries related to the airbag deployment. We need help to ensure gm addresses this issue proactively, before someone is seriously injured or killed.

7 Side/window Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 09/04/2014

There are very large cracks on my dash board, the worst one being around the airbag plastic cover on the passenger side of the dash! you can see under the cover showing all of the components under the dash! the crack that is on the drivers side is above the steering column running from the defroster to the top by the speedometer displays, etc! I feel as if these cracks, specifically the one on the passenger side, is a huge safety hazard! without crashing, there is no way of telling if the passenger side airbag will deflate properly due to this! I feel that to find this out, it should be at no ones expense! I have filed a complaint & a claim with gm a few months ago only to be told by the dealership that gm contacted on my behalf that the responsibility is mine if I wanted this problem to be fixed! the dealership informed me that it would cost $850 to $1000 to have the dash replaced! the dealership also said that they are very aware of this problem in the Tahoes because they have replaced some dashes! gm is not taking any responsibility for their faulty equipment & refuse to issue a recall! there are thousands of other customers who I know for a fact that are also facing the same problems with their trucks & suvs! please do the right thing & issue a recall on these faulty & cheap made dash boards! thank you!.

8 Side/window Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2012

I had just pulled up in the driveway at my residence heading inside an I heard a noise from the vechile! when I went to see the side airbags on both side deployed! I called insurance company and they didn't cover it so contacted gm an they decided to send someone out to the place where the truck was towed! now gm decided it was a electrical problem with the sensor an they gonna fix it! the truck could be ready anytime now they were waiting on a backorder part to come in. Im still thinking if this vehicle if safe for me an my family.

9 Side/window Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2010

Takata recall. Between 2010/2011 side curtain airbags (front and back), deployed while operating vehicle in optimum driving conditions, after a passing over a pothole in the roadway. I was traveloing with my then 13 year old son and 8 year old daughter. Imeediately took the vehicle into the dealership only to wait over a month, without a vehicle, and never given the option of a rental or loaner vehicle. As "Chevrolet" investigated the on-board computer data, it falsely read that airbags deployed due to "rollover event" data was sent to the vehicles srs system. Chevrolet then deemed that I was driving over 95 mph (which is impossible due to the rev limiter), and I had oversized wheels on my vehicle. Wheel diameter and size were not the factor, as they were within 5/32" of oem stock dimensions. I was charged for "troubleshooting", as wewll as labor for the removal of the side airbags, and they declined the claim. Additionally, I have had to reyturn to the dealership to again "warranty" the ecm, bcm, window regulator (twice), as well as charging system faults. My extended warranty was again denied saying it was not within the parameters of the coverage. Full extended warranty, bumper to bumper and this was not covered? also, the dashboard front cowl is cracked (known defect, no recall), chrome peeling off interior door handle, as well as stabilitrak" computer errors and issues (known issue, no recall).
