Takata recall - we took our Tahoe to the dealership because the airbag light was on. Dealer told us the airbag would need to be replaced at a cost of $1000. We searched the internet to see if the airbag was under recall. We contacted gm on 12/26/17 and were told by quel that the airbag would be replaced for free. We were contacted by andrea on 1/02/18 and were told it was not under recall and that the repair would not be free. Upon further conversation andrea told me that gm did not have a remedy for the airbag and therefore would not replace it. My airbag seems to fit all the descriptions we read for the recall (year model, front passenger, etc. ) I can not understand why they are unwilling to fix the problem.
Takata recall. Airbag light stays on due to a defect.
The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 16v381000 (air bags); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact stated that the passenger side air bag indicator illuminated. The failure mileage was unknown. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
