Carrier/rack problems of the 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe - part 1

Dashboard is cracking on driver's side and passenger's side.

I received notification in March 2021 of a gm recall n212328800. I promptly contacted my gm dealer. My gm dealer ordered the replacement part & we dropped off the car. An hour later, we were told the repair was complete & we arrived to pick up the car. When signing the paperwork, we noticed a note indicating that the dashboard was cracked on arrival. We immediately went out to the car and found 2 cracks in the dashboard. The dashboard was not cracked on arrival. I had just wiped off the dash that morning prior to bringing the car to the dealer. We talked to the service manager who said they took pictures and had video. We asked to see said pictures and video & once they went looking for them, they told us they did not save for some reason. We pushed the issue further with the general manager. They refused to take responsibility for the cracked dash that occurred during the airbag repair. They refused to fix my dashboard. They did not tell us at any point prior to the repair that this could happen. I am not sure what type of hazard this may be to us in the future but the resale value just took a hit. I know there has been a class action lawsuit for similar types of damage from this takata airbag recall. I am following protocol by reporting this to you.

Cracked dash.

I have 2013 Tahoe. It only have 87,500k its black. The dashboard is cracked. It just showed up 2 weeks ago. The vehicle is kept garage at all time at the house. I bought the vehicle 1 1/2 years ago. I don't understand why this happen. I know a person also has a 2013 Tahoe and her dashboard cracked. They replaced it, but the new one cracked also. I have a 2001 Ford f150 and the dash is not cracked. Why is GMC/Chevrolet dashboards are cracked. The dashboard is plasticity that is why is cracking. I would like to have a new one. Thank you.

Dashboard has become cracked around the passenger side airbag and the dashboard also has numerous other cracks. The cracks have developed over the time since I purchased the vehicle in September 2015. There are thousands of pictures relating to this issue circulating online. I also purchased the best warranty gm offers, including the bumper to bumper warranty, but that didn't include the dashboard as I was told.

Cracks have developed at the center and passenger side areas of the dashboard and appear to be growing as the dash cools and warms. The vehicle was stationary for several days prior to noticing the cracks. The passenger side crack, like many others have reported, is at the right rear corner of the airbag containment area on the dash. This crack is especially concerning as it looks to be under pressure and bulging. My biggest concern at this point is the airbag going off prematurely while we are driving.

Dash spontaneously cracked in multiple locations, which causes distracting squeaking noise when driving. I find myself taking my eyes off the road in order to put my hand on the source of he squeaking crack in the plastic.

I took my Tahoe in for repairs at al sierra Chevrolet to get an 02 oxygen sensor replaced. Upon receiving my Tahoe back from repairs I noticed that my dash board had cracked near the passenger air bag.

My dash is cracked in 3 places as of the last 2 weeks. In googling the issue, it appears there was a law suit against gm about this defective part in the vehicle. . Read more...

The dashboard cover is cracked in several places. The vehicle is well maintained, garaged and has not been used off paved roads. The cracks are a safety hazard in the event of even small collisions since they create sharp corners and pointed ends. In the event of a major collision, pieces would likely become hazardous flying objects propelled by the airbags.

I just noticed that the dashboard in my 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe ltz is cracking!!.

The dash on the drivers side of my 2013 Tahoe has cracked. The vehicle has 74,000 miles on it. The vehicle is garaged when not in use. I became aware of this issue on November 20, 2019. There are two cracks that almost intersect in a "v" shape.

Passenger dashboard where airbag is located has a crack. Called the chevy dealership and was told it's not covered by extended warranty.

My dashboard has cracked in two places as shown on the attached photos. One crack is near the housing for the airbag, and the other is forming above the steering wheel. The cracks result in the dashboard shacking on any uneven road surface, so eventually the smaller crack will progress across the entire dashboard. I understand there is a class action lawsuit against chevy due to a safety hazard from this defective part. Replacement or repairs are estimated to be $1200-$2000. This has happened over the course of normal driving.

My dashboard is cracked on both the driver and passenger side. While I was driving my passenger commented on it and asked what happened. I hadn't noticed it before since I couldn't see over the part of the dashboard that is higher than the backside closer to the windshield.

My 2013 Tahoe has cracks in the dashboard over the steering column and the passenger seat side. There are pictures attached. The cracks just happened. I have reported this before, nothing happened. It has gotten worse. I have taken to get it fixed but cost is outrageous. I have ordered two dash covers neither matched. Now by front doors (both the driver and passenger side) pull handles are falling part. Every time you pull the door shut it pinches your fingers or slips and you almost fall down. Every unsafe. This was my dream car. My husband has owned several Tahoes that he uses in is building business, he does not baby is vehicles and his interior could be cleaned up and look like new and it's a 2004 with almost 300,000 miles on it. My interior rattles and looks so cheap. I am 66 years old. I can not afford a new Tahoe or a used one they are way to expensive if these problems are going to happen. I took to a dealership 2 weeks ago to get an estimate on the parts and labor. I voted the parts quote but haven't heard from the labor. I can't believe you have to buy the entire door panels. I am ashamed to drive my car with family and friends in it, because it rattles and looks horrible. I am afraid it the crack over the steering may cause some electrical or some other problems. I would like a response to these problems. I have friends with the exact problems. I would consider buying any else, but we have always been chevy fans. I don't know now?.

Low mileage vehicle, stored in a garage at work and at home. Dashboard cracked at passenger side airbag. Serious safety issue as plastic parts from broken dashboard can become deadly missiles during airbag deployment and potentially harm or cause death to passenger (my child). Spent nearly $600 for a dashboard assembly that should have never required replacing.

Cracked dash cracked for no reason.

I was driving home on the highway when I heard a loud pop. I thought a rock had hit my windshield. When I arrived home I saw some white material which looked like cotton on the dash. After further inspection I realized that the "pop"was my dashboard cracking. My car is garaged accept when I am at work, which when there are sun protectors on my dashboard during the warm months. My Tahoe only has 76,000 miles on it.

The dashboard has cracked in my 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe putting the passenger at risk during an accident. Since the crack runs down to the airbag it could possible shatter the plastic and damage passengers. I have found this to be a very common issue and that injuries have occurred due to this unsafe dash. This needs to be a safety recall for the safety of the drivers and passengers.

My traction and stabilitrak system will have random alerts that will go on and off for no reason. My dash has also cracked by front passenger airbag and my front driver's side and now makes cracking noises at times and now rattles when driving.

I own a 2013 chevy Tahoe and out of no where the dash board cracked around the passenger air bag. Within a day the crack made the dashboard drop and now has spread within a week to above the steering column. As this relates to the airbag, I consider it a safety hazard and a defect. I can provide photos if appropriate.

The dashboard of the vehicle has severe cracks around the passenger side airbag as well as the driver side steering wheel. The vehicle has been well maintained and never been in a wreck. I am very concerned that the plastic may become projectiles in the event of an accident. The dealership refuses to acknowledge fault or cover repairs.

Dash is cracked next to the steering cowling and next to the airbag. This is a problem for all gm trucks and suvs from 2007 thru 2014. This may compromise the airbag from deploying and injuring the driver with shredded pieces of plastic dashboard. Gm refused to pay to replace defective dashboard.

Dash has cracked over the last year around the airbag and concern is that pieces could become shrapnel in case of a deployment.

Multiple dashboard cracks.

My dash has two cracks: one near the left corner of the passenger air bag and one on the right mid point of the curve over the control section of the dash. I have see where this is a design problem and many people have the same cracks. I noticed the first crack may 5, 2018 and the second crack may 25, 2018. I noticed them when my vehicle was parked. I am very concerned about how unsafe this is with the passenger airbag and possible flying debris in the event of an accident. My car is still under warranty.
