After taking the exit, within minute or two, the car/engine shut off with no way of restarting or steering. The engine did start to smoke when the hood was popped to inspect. Tow truck was called to transport us to the local chevy dealer in hammond la - ross downing Chevrolet. Since it was a Saturday, we had to wait for the dealership to reopen on Monday. On Monday, I was called and told that there was indeed complete engine failure, and later in the day it was determined that it was due to a rod bearing issue. Gm was contacted since I was 3,000 miles outside of my warranty, and the agreed to cover roughly $17,000 of the repair to completely replace the engine. I was out of pocket $3,227. 56. Failure Date: 10/19/2024

While driving 70mph on the interstate, my 2022 Tahoe stopped accelerating, the engine seized, and shifted in to neutral at 52,000. I was able to coast to the side of an extremely busy interstate, right before a bridge and wait for assistance. The dealer confirmed this is a problem known to this vehicle. The engine is on backorder, even under warranty. They say an spac has been filed and I had to make a claim to gm to reimburse them for the starter, battery block, and battery they decided to replace first. They said it could take up to 3 months to receive a new engine and there was a waitlist for a 10day loaner car. The vehicle had just been at the dealer for a 50,000 mile check up and warranty repair. There were no other symptoms prior to this catastrophic engine failure.

While driving under normal conditions, the 6. 2l engine in our 2022 chevy Tahoe seized and stopped running. Upon inspection from the dealership, they indicated that the engine experienced catastrophic failure. The dealership replaced the engine, battery, starter, fuse box, and steering gear. We were lucky as the failure occurred just prior to us getting onto the interstate. Prior to the failure, there were no warning lights or issues with the vehicle. It was a sudden and catastrophic failure.

Vehicle dealer service center tested for leaks and found no leak. Second report of exhaust smell in vehicle cabin on 8/6/24 at 48,106 miles. Vehicle dealer service center tested for leaks and found no leak. Third report on exhaust smell in cabin on 10/31/24 to service manager who confirmed he could smell the exhaust in vehicle cabin. Car went to shop on 11/5/24 at 55,077 miles. Two exhaust leaks detected. From dealer: "smoke tested exhaust system and checked for leaks, found a hole in the exhuast pipe right before the muffler and is likely the source of the smell. " additionally from dealer, after first repair: "after exhaust repair the vehicle was started and heard and audible exhaust leak on the drivers side. After further inspection found the drivers side exhaust manifold is leaking as well. " I have been driving this vehicle for at least seven months with exhaust leaks and with exhaust coming into the cabin of my vehicle exposing myself and passengers to carbon monoxide. Reported twice to dealer and they reported no issues.

49 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/29/2024

My 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe has a recurring pattern of excessive oil consumption, smoke from the exhaust, repeated check engine light events, p0420 catalyst-efficiency faults, and repeated catalytic-converter-related repairs. At approximately 75,000 miles, the vehicle shut down on the freeway. At approximately 121,000 miles, the first catalytic converter failed. Chevrolet of wesley chapel documented p0420 and catalyst failure in November 2025, and gm service history reflects catalytic-converter replacements at 131,468 miles and approximately 141,082 miles. The vehicle also underwent major injector-related repair in early 2026. At 141,620 miles, Chevrolet of wesley chapel started an oil consumption test and stated in writing that oil consumption can lead to repeat failed converters and false oxygen sensor readings. Despite substantial repairs, the problem pattern continued. I am reporting this as a possible safety-related defect affecting engine operation, emissions-system failure, and drivability, and I am asking NHTSA to review whether this indicates a broader safety-related defect.

The check engine light came on on my chevy Tahoe, November 2023. The system started to fail it would say for collision not able service esc system. I would bring it into the shop. They would hook it up to the computer and they would say OH nothing wrong we just reset it. Then it started to shut down and it would say proceed with caution, low acceleration, no front and collision service esc and I would have. Luckily I was in a city so I took it to the shop. They gave me a print off. Said there was no technician cleared it. I was able to make it home and I made an appointment. They put it on the computer. They said OH nothing‘s wrong. Everything‘s fine then it did it again and I was going through the mountains. I noticed that my car smelled of gas and that the gas gauge was just sucking fuel and I knew this was a problem. . 55 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2023

Our family of 5 (including 2 children and an infant) was driving 70 mph westbound on interstate 40 east of knoxville, TN when our 2022 Tahoe rst engine seized. For a few seconds, we had no steering, braking or acceleration and the dashboard began flashing. After a few seconds, the car shifted itself into the neural gear and we were able to brake on the shoulder of a busy highway. We were unable to restart the car. We called the police as well as aaa. The police came and sat behind us to deter oncoming cars to changes lanes. Aaa came and towed our car to reeder Chevrolet dealership in knoxville, TN. There, it was determined that our engine had seized and needs to be replaced under warranty however, there is a backorder on the engine, and we are now driving a rental car. There are several other Tahoes in their service department with similar circumstances in need of a 6. 2l ecotech v8 engine. There was no warning at all that the car had problems. Up until this point, there were no issues. I believe there is a widespread problem with these particular engines and this should be addressed on a national level. Our lives were at risk.

58 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2023

Tahoe will not start nor will it allow to be jumped by another vechicle. Tahoe is kept in garage this is the 4th time this has happened. Dealer replaced the battery first time saying that was the culprit, second time they could not find a root cause, and same for third time. I see this is a common problem with engine, battery and electrical of the 2022 Tahoe. I do not feel safe in it knowing this could cut off on me driving down the interstate.

59 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2023

On June 1st, I was put in a very dangerous situation while driving on the highway. Out of nowhere, my vehicle’s engine started clicking and immediately converted to a rough in the middle of highway traffic. I was terribly afraid from my life. I was headed to duluth, GA for a meeting but had turn around and drive 31 miles back in rush hour traffic to steve reyman Chevrolet dealership, in cobb county in this condition. I was extremely stressed; afraid that I could potentially be injured in an accident or fire, because of the engine. Several never before seen warning signals appeared. These signals included service esc, service traction control, forward collision system unavailable and the check engine light. I had just had my truck serviced on 5/26, as the dealership had been monitoring the oil consumption of my 2022 Tahoe. By the time, I arrived to the dealership, the service department was closed, so the vehicle was left overnight. I met with the service advisor in the morning and was told there was a cylinder 4 misfire and that a fuel injector and spark plugs was needed. After picking up, my vehicle on June 12th, the issued was not resolved and my vehicle was inoperable. I regularly service my vehicle including recommended service, so I’m not sure how something this extreme could happen. Looking back at my service records, there have been several occurrences where the vehicle stalled out and the dealer blamed the auto/start stop feature or a failed battery. All pretty ridiculous claims for a brand new truck. I’m convinced this vehicle was produced poorly. My truck has 72,325 miles on it, however I came across several forums with new body Tahoes & suburbans with way less mileage (I. E. 4300 miles) that experienced the exact same issue. Attached, you will find all the times, I brought my vehicle in for service for a major concerning issue.

64 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2023

With 8500 miles while driving the engine started ticking, jerks on acceleration, trans shifting very slow and a light warning with “reduced acceleration while driving” came on. Then immediately after the instrument panels warning lights indicated service traction control, forward collision system unavailable, and check engine light all illuminated. Then car stopped accelerating and was almost rear ended on highway. Luckily no one was hurt. What is gm/chevy doing to fix this issue. Apparently, this is common issue with the new Tahoes.

65 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/26/2022

While driving, I heard a ticking noise, that sounded like rocks being thrown in the fender well. The more I drove, the sound and frequency increased. Then, I started to lose power, like it was taking longer to shift. My safety and others were at risk because continuing to drive with lifter issues could’ve caused engine failure, which could’ve caused an accident. The problem was confirmed at a dealership. I don’t know if anyone else inspected it. No lights appeared until after I had it towed to the dealership. They said the warning lights came on for them.
