My wife's 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe has a latching problem with the front drivers seat belt. Frequently the seat belt will not latch. It takes multiple attempts (as many as 6 or 7 attempts) to get the seat belt to finally latch. While this component has not completely failed yet, the likelihood of a complete failure appears probable. This component is a critical safety feature on automobiles and it's failure would probably result in death if the vehicle was in an accident while the seat belt was unlatched. The component is not something that should be subject to failure due to normal usage. The vehicle has 80000 miles on it. I have not reported this to my dealer yet. The obvious critical nature of the component led me to report this to you so that you may investigate if more people are experiencing the same problem. In 34 years of driving, I have never had a seat belt that would not latch including on my 36 year old gto.

August 2001 I purchased a new 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe from danvers Chevrolet. That fall the dealership replaced the faulty seat belt and the seat. The seat belt is still not operating as originally intended and gm will not admit fault. The repairing dealerhsip - hillcrest Chevrolet in salem, MA (have been great with me) are not allowed by gm anymore to replace seat belts or to attempt to fix the locking mechanism that immediately chokes anyone sitting in the seat - as if the car was involved in an accident you cannot more anything but your eyes! hillcrest employees have seen and experienced the problem. Gm has the same problem with the trailblazer but are not willing to help me anymore - I made them aware of the seat belt law in massachusetts; they don't care. I need help to get the seat belt fixed so it can be used. If anything happens to anyone in my car because of an accident; if I get stopped and a ticket because the seat belt can't be worn - I can't imagine what will happen. I am in tears over this and am desperate for help. Please help me. Cathy comora-favaloro.

While driving would step on brakes and seat belt will not hold body like others vehicles that seat belt will hold.
Passenger's side seat belt locks up and gets very tight and continues to get even tighter upon any slight movement. Consumer has contacted dealer, and they are unable to correct problem. Consumer was advised by dealer that belt meets gm's spec, consumer feels belt is unsafe since the passenger must remove the belt to retract and reset, a larger person can not wear the belt.

Seat belts locks without any apparent reason. Belt will not release unless belt is removed and allowed to recoil completely into the seat. Belt is then reapplied. Tahoe has been in for service four times. Belt has been replaced three times. Last time date of service 10-30-01. On 10-31-01 gm rep reviewed problem and instructed service dept not to do anything else with the belt that the locking was "normal procedure". I fail to see removing a safety belt is normal procedure. Manager at martin burks stated Chevrolet was aware belts were defective and recalled them (I never received a letter). On the third visit to the service dept the "new" non-defective belt was installed - seems to me the belt is still defective considering rider has to remove the belt to unlock it.
