The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that upon taking the vehicle to an independent mechanic, the mechanic discovered that all four rims were pitted and peeled which had caused all four tires to not hold air. The contact was informed that due to the rim defect, all four rims needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but contested that the failure was not related to a manufacturing defect of the rims but was instead related to the roads in the state that the contact resides. The vehicle was not replaced. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated while driving 70 mph, the vehicle would shake violently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the front-end alignment was performed however, the failure recurred. The dealer was made aware of the recurring failure and informed the contact to replace the tires. The vehicle was taken to another dealer where the tires were replaced however, the failure persisted. The contact then contacted the first dealer and was informed by the dealer that the failure may be due to the front passenger's side bent rim and needed to take it to a rim specialist to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 126,000.

Sometimes when I am driving the steering wheel shakes,I can drive on the same road and it may not. I have had the front end aligned by the chevy dealer in which I bought the Tahoe and also had new tires put on at the same time. It seems like it will go away for awhile and then it comes right back and then I have to have the tires rotated because of bumps forming on the tires and this happens in a very short time. I have had it aligned by 3 different dealers and they say it is in spec and that is all they do. I have just put another set of tires on it and it is starting to do it again. I have been told that there were some bad rims manufactured that year, could that be part of my problem.

I work replacing tires. I noticed the rims are being gouged on the insides by rubbing on the disc brake housings on Tahoes and silverados with 4-wheel disc brakes. Some gouges are very deep.

This vehicle picks up small stones between the rear brake calipers and the wheel rims. This causes a loud grinding noise, and upon removal of the wheel the inside of the aluminum rim is found to have deep gouges in it where the stone was grinding. If enough stones rubbed here, it could cause the tire to lose pressure through the rim, or if the stone rolled up just right, it could cause an explosive crack and deflation of the tire possibly causing loss of control ot the vehicle. I contacted my dealer who said they have had several vehicles with this problem, and that gm is going to have to do something to address this problem, but at the present they have done nothing. I also contacted Chevrolet, and they said contact the dealer, there is nothing they can do. My wife and children use this vehicle for a school bus, and I am very worried about their safety, and there seems to be no recourse for this engineering defect.
Left rear wheel rim failed resulting in slow leak. Mjs.
