4 Wheel problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 04/15/2024

Gm does not install tpms devices in spare tires. I had a flat tire in snowy conditions 100+ miles from the nearest place for assistance. After putting on the spare tire the dic (driver information center) displayed no air in tire. That’s because a tpms doesn’t exist in spare tires. I started driving a my four wheel drive turned off. I turned it back on and after a very short distance it turned off again. Since the vehicle determined I didn’t have air in one of the tires (spare previously mentioned) the four wheel drive shouldn’t work to prevent damage. I needed the four wheel drive in the snow so I had to proceed at approximately 25 mph. This is a safety issue for not only my vehicle but others on the roadways. I contacted the dealer that had no idea about the problem and neither did the national gm customer support center. There is a tool that “tells” the vehicle where each tire is located so that is low tire pressure occurs the driver would know which tire needs attention. If a tpms was installed from the factory and a flat occurred, spare installed then the four wheel drive would function. If a flat subsequently occurred the driver would still be alerted but wouldn’t know tire was involved. Visual check would find it. Either this or have gm provide an override so the trip could be continued safely. I believe that this situation applies to any four wheel drive vehicle not just gm and should be resolved if the nhtsb would initiate an investigation.

5 Wheel problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 09/29/2023

This Tahoe comes with a full size spare. This model includes brembo front brakes. The included spare cannot be installed/mounted to the front axle as the wheel is undersized and will not fit over the brake calipers. None of my ordering information nor msrp label or model information on Chevrolet. Com points out the included spare tire/wheel cannot be used in all positions of the SUV. Finding this out at 5am in the dark and drizzle of a cold michigan morning on the side of us23 southbound is not the least bit safe.

7 Wheel problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 09/12/2022

My right side wheel feels like it’s going to fall off and indicate the abs and emergency parking brake. I believe it’s a wheel hub bearing that’s coming loose or tie rods I’m not sure and one time the emergency parking brake engage on me and I had to pull over to the side and wasn’t able to drive it. When I turn on the engine or driving , idling I smell gasoline really bad.

8 Wheel problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 06/30/2021

2017 Tahoe premier 4wd with 53,000 miles. Originally had a tire going low so I took it to a discount tire to find leak. Upon inspection, they found significant corrosion on the inside of the wheel. After finding this out, I found that NHTSA along with gm issued a service bulletin for this problem. (bulletin 08-03-10-006g). I called gm corporate and put together a case number then took it to a gm dealer for verification. Upon inspection, it was found that all four wheels were severely corroded and needed replacing. I was informed that gm is only giving a 20% assistance on the replacements with $3,800 out of my pocket. I do not agree. This should not just apply to a 3yr/36,000 mile warranty. This is a known defective product from gm and should be replaced with no out of pocket expense to me. This should not be considered normal wear and tear. Furthermore, with the possibility of tire pressure loss, this could cause an accident that could harm my family and potentially others.

9 Wheel problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 06/15/2021

While driving on a residential street during daylight hours, on a clear day at approximately 20 miles per hour the right wheel on my car dislodged.  this caused me to lose control of steering the vehicle and strike a parked car.  there were people walking about on the sidewalk at the time and other cars traveling.  when I exited the car I saw that the passenger side was completely on the ground and there were broken pieces and liquid coming from underneath the car.  the axel was broken with a clean break.  the car was then towed to the dealership where I was informed it could not stay.  my insurance company then towed it to their repair shop where upon assessing the damage they could tell that this was not caused by a collision.  general motors along with our independent investigator examined the parts and vehicle. Leaving me without a vehicle for 4 months.  our insurance investigator determined this was a defect in manufacturing and gm did not agree.  general motors will not communicate with us any further on this matter.  some of the repairs that were made was the left front and cv axel, also the left front aluminum steering knuckle was missing.  this should be investigated for metallurgical discrepancies by an independent lab.  while the car was being inspected there was a recall to the power steering that may apply to the vehicle.  I would like for the NHTSA to investigate this issue.  the car has been repaired and is in my possession and my insurance company has all of the reports, documents, and parts regarding the investigation.  I also have pictures immediately following and a witness to the incident. Had a been traveling on a highway at a higher rate of speed this could have been fatal.  your assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

10 Wheel problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 06/13/2020

Tires have 23,000 miles on them and have been rotated every other oil change since brand new at the dealer. One of the tires has a slipped belt at only 23,000 miles. The other tires do not appear to be in good shape either. Thankfully we noticed before the tire blew. The tires on contentintal cross contact lx20, p275 55 r20. I have researched and this same tire has been recalled on 2015/2016 Tahoe and suburbans.

11 Wheel problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 11/09/2019

While traveling southbound on a four lane highway at approximately 65-70mph (posted speed limit of 65) my 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe seemed to have no steering, similar to how a steering wheel feels when vehicle is off, as the vehicle was traveling over a knoll with a slight curve to the left. The accelerator was pressed to check to see if vehicle was in fact still running, which it was, but the steering wheel would not move. The brakes were applied at which time the Tahoe darted left into the other lane where another vehicle was traveling, causing that vehicle to hit the Tahoe in the drivers side back door. The Tahoe then continued broadside until it broke free of impact with the other vehicle, and turned backward into the median. The Tahoe travelled backwards thru the median for approximately 80ft at which time the accelerator was pressed to the floor in an attempt to keep the Tahoe out of northbound traffic. The Tahoe came out of the median broadside, back into the left lane & stopped. The steering wheel never moved during this accident. The state trooper suggested that the front wheels were locked the entire time based on the black marks in the road. Also, even with a direct side impact by the other vehicle, the side airbags did not deploy.

14 Wheel problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 05/17/2019

We have 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe and in the last6 months on my month report the tire pressure if varying as much a 4-6 lbs. And it can be in a single day. I have tried to address it wiith the car dealership and the maunfuacture and they are just passing the buck. There is not leak. I think it is similar to the Ford firestone issue. Several years ago. Apparently the tires are apparently thinner which might effect the pressure sensor after 1 year. I would for this issue to case harm to the general public because manufacturer does not seem to care. Case # with chev is # 9-524821390 I have all of the record to prove this, can you help with this issue.

15 Wheel problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 10/01/2018

We've put 21,000 miles on these tires in 3 years and have tire rumbles, vibration while driving and side wall is cracking and flaking away. Brought to the dealer where we got the tires from and they have no idea what's causing it. Seems to me that several people are having this issue. There needs to be a recall for these tires before someone gets hurt while driving.

16 Wheel problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 09/20/2018

My 2016 chevy Tahoe shook so bad at 69-74, mph my husband was scared to ride with me. Took to dealer they kept SUV for 4 days and said it was the tires. I put new tires on but it still rides rough. Now I hear it's because I have 22 in wheels that makes it ride rough. Since the tires have been changed about 2 months now ive been having slow speed brake problems. I've almost hit several cars in a parking lot at different times because the brake want stop. I've even almost hit my husbands new truck in our driveway. Took it to mechanic, put on machine and now said it's a vac. Pump issue. I've had many Tahoe and this one is making me want to get away from chevy.

19 Wheel problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 01/04/2018

Factory wheels are have been deteriorating heavily. Gm offered an option package for this model year for 22" chrome wheels, specifically chrome 5409 wheels. The chrome plating has been aggressively separating and pealing from the interior of the wheels and most recently 1 of my wheels rotted all the way through requiring replacement. I take care of my vehicles and this problem was unavailable and clearly a manufacturing quality defect. I am now forced to consider absorbing the exorbitant cost of replacing all 4 wheels to ensure the safety of my family.

20 Wheel problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 12/19/2017

(kh - this should be a tire complaint; which tire blew out?) tl the contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated after the tire blew they moved the vehicle to the side of the road and attempted to detached the spare tire, however it did not detach. The contact stated that the instructions stated that if the spare tire did not detach the latch mechanism was in safety mode. The contact called a tow driver and they attempted to remove the spare per GMC owners manual instructions however they could not remove the tire. The tow driver called another tow truck driver and they cut the latch mechanism off of the vehicle and the tire was lowered. The contact stated that they were on the side of the road approximately three hours attempting to change the spare tire. The vehicle was taken to tire shop where it was diagnosed that due to the salt on the road the latch corroded. Ryan Chevrolet located 911 hwy 55 buffalo, mn was contacted and the technician also informed the contact due to the state they were located in it was an inherent failure with the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified however no further assistance was offered. The contact stated it was not stated in the owners manual that the latch needed to be cut and the situational failure should be reflected in the manual. The failure mileage was approximately 285,000. Kh.

21 Wheel problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 10/12/2017

While driving, my left front wheel suddenly began making a grinding noise. This continued to happen over a span of about 1 week before I sought a mechanic for repair. The day before my vehicle was scheduled for repair, the accident occurred. As I drove to work one morning on the local highway, the vehicle began to jerk to the left. I slowly drove, with emergency lights on, to the closest exit and suddenly my vehicle jerked to the left causing me to crash into the grassy area of the exit. My left front wheel was almost off the vehicle and it had to be towed for repair.

22 Wheel problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 03/17/2017

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe. When the fuel tank was filled up, the tank exploded and splashed fuel all over the contact. The contact's vehicle also vibrated while driving at any speed and the abs warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic (dns auto repair, sebastian, FL) where several failure codes were diagnosed. The vehicle was taken to another independent mechanic (tire kingdom, sebastian, florida) where it was diagnosed that the tires needed to be replaced. The tires were replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was approximately 123,250.

23 Wheel problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 11/11/2016

Vehicle shakes and vibrates at speeds above70mph. At speeds of 80mph the shake is very pronounced and the vehicle stability is affected. Vehicle has been doing this since day one. Dealership has tried replacing tires multiple times but nothing has worked. Difficult and dangerous to drive the vehicle between 70-80 mph.

24 Wheel problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 11/03/2016

I purchased a brand new 2015 chevy Tahoe and use it here and there. As of now I only have 10,000 miles on it however the tires were balding around 6,000 miles and even maybe before then but I didn't think to take a closer look since it was brand new. Now it is very obvious they need to be replaced and I'm a gentle driver and keep it on smooth roads. After reading all the other complaints I am afraid the side walls will blow out on me or something even worse may happen. While driving the car shakes and pulls as it feels the alignment is off due to poor tires. I am not sure if the dealership would be responsible for replacing them or goodyear assurance fuel max (my brand of tires). I am surprised there hasn't been a recall this far as the issues are very apparent and quite dangerous. If there is info on what an owner needs to do in order to get the defective tires replaced where would one find that listed or who do they contact and/or will they be contacted after writing a complaint? not only does the car pull excessively but it makes a loud clicking noise when turning and sounds like it is directly from the wheels/tires, it doesn't hold up well in rain or snow due to lack of tire tread and the tire pressure is constantly decreasing no matter how many times I put air in so it's at the correct psi and every month, minus the first couple months I had the car, the onstar diagnostic review always shows the psi as being significantly low. I just don't want to find myself in a bad situation like something a lot worse than having my car just pull me into the other lane on a major highway aka have the sidewills completely blow out while on a highway and having only 10k miles on it this shouldn't be a concern. A quality tire should last for years and tens of thousands of miles before the tread is completely worn down.

25 Wheel problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 05/02/2016

"takata recall" about a month ago my truck (abs) started active itself and when driving it will act as if it's about to stop on its own and jerked to the left. Then shortly after it start making a loud noise then the noise gotten louder where others can hear it not only me. I had one of the wheels hub replace and it stop for a day and continue and now it's to the point where it's beginning to shake while driving, and ride different. I have three kids who I have to worry about.

26 Wheel problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 04/15/2016

All the tire pressure seniors are saying to check the tires. There is correct pressure in tires when I check them, and of course the dash monitor is blinkinglike crazy all the time. My tire man said it would be lots of bucks to replace them. He said by law they can't take them out. What crap, and a huge waste of money. Listen up general motors, we do not need all this electronic crap on our cars. What a rip off!!!.

27 Wheel problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 03/21/2016

Spare tire wheel diameter is smaller than the diameter of the four wheels on the vehicle. The four main wheels have 18" wheels. The spare tire wheel is a 17" diameter. If the spare tire is used on the rear drive wheels, the smaller spare wheel would turn at a faster rpm than the regular tire. Is this permitted? seems dangerous to me.

28 Wheel problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 08/11/2015

The contact owned a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe. While driving approximately 50 mph, the rear driver side wheel became detached from the vehicle and caused the contact to lose control of the vehicle. The contact crashed into a wooden pole, which crashed through the front window. The vehicle flipped over three times and landed upside down. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed. The contact sustained broken bones and injuries that required medical attention. The vehicle was towed to the towing company. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 131,000.

29 Wheel problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 06/16/2015

On June 16, 2015, I slowed to get off a highway in maine and immediately noticed that the brakes were not slowing properly. Soon after I heard a clucking noise and thought I ran over something that sounded like metal. I checked but saw nothing, but I noticed that the brakes looked very blue like they had been running hot. A short distance down the road the sound got worse. I contacted a Chevrolet dealer. Fortunately they were able to accommodate me the next morning. I did not use my car for the rest of that day. Upon inspection of the front noise they showed me that the right front wheel was about to fall off and the left front was grinding and ready to fail. The rotors had to be replaced due to the high heat, and bluing was causing chipping off and brake failure. I should mention that this 2009 vehicle only had 48,793 miles on it, at the time of the failure. The best part is that the vehicle had a full inspection one week prior to the failure. So, the end result was that both front wheel hub bearing assemblies had to be replaced, along with the both front rotors, brakes and calibers. The dealer tried to tell me that the calibers were still good, however I had them replaced because they were also overheated. Anyone who knows mechanics should understand that in this situation after running highway speeds, that there would be overheating of the calibers along with rotors and brakes when the wheel hubs are not running smooth. I question why these wheel bearing failed at such low mileage. I take excellent care of my vehicles. On 12/31/2013 at 40,126 miles I had new brakes and rotors installed, and had the brake fluid changed. Still gm doesn't think that they have any responsibility to reimburse me for the calibers, rotors, and brakes that were damaged because of the premature failure of my front wheel hubs.

30 Wheel problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 06/12/2015

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that there was a progressive power steering failure that occurred without warning. The suspension was also unstable in the rear associated with the rear wheels. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and they replaced the 4-wheel driver module, which did not remedy the failure. While traveling approximately 35 mph, the steering wheel locked without warning and the wheels in the rear locked. The contact applied force to correct the failure, but the steering wheel and the rear wheels locked. The vehicle veered to the left and crashed into a 1996 GMC sierra 3500. The front air bags and side air bags deployed with force. The driver sustained major injuries to the right arm and the left leg as well as extensive abrasions. The driver had to receive medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a wrecking yard and then to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not inspected by the insurance adjustor to determine the extent of the failure. The VIN and failure mileage were not available.

33 Wheel problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 01/13/2015

I was driving on the ih-93 nb at 55 mph. Suddenly the car began pulling to the right. I stopped and checked the tires, but did not see any problems. All four tires were inflated to the specs (35 psi). I kept driving, and after 20-25 miles I heard a sound as if something was rubbing in the front passenger fender area. I began slowing down and wanted to stop. At that moment my front right tire separated. It was a primewell valera ht 235/75-15 tire, installed at a firestone shop in plaistow, nh in November, 2014 with a few hundred miles on it.

35 Wheel problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 09/08/2014

4th and most dangerous of 4 incidents in 3 weeks of ownership of 2015 chevy Tahoe lt. Without driver instruction or interference the 2015 Tahoe shifted itself into 4wd despite dial on 2wd. Steering difficult, car jerked, engine revved differently and trouble in reverse. No warning signals on display and I didn't know what was happening. Drove . 5 mi. , pulled over restarted, and then "4 wheel drive, dismiss" on display over steering wheel (no seat vibration, flashing lights as with lane drifting). Tried to "undismiss", consulted manual and ensured dial was in 2wd. Cut ignition off, restarted, same light. Test drove another 1 mi. To see if warning display malfunction. . . Car jerked and steering as if non-power steering. Called dealership (rick hendrick's city Chevrolet, charlotte, nc) and svs tech had never heard of such an issue and consulted other techs (on hold 15 min). Finally svs mgr said car unsafe to drive but to drive it home 'slowly" and they would tow to dealership and get me a loaner. Svs mgr, on 3rd phone call after I threatened to notify ntsb, said he was calling a gm "program mgr" to see about my car's "dangerous issue". After the car rolled when ignition turned off (radio and dash lights off too) and it hit a dumpster b/c we had not put it in park, yet ignition still turned off (luckily no one hurt but significant paint damage), key fob wouldn't program seats/mirrors, mylink wouldn't pair to my phone and now to learn there is a recall for rolling b/c car shifts into neutral? I am still driving loaner, no word from svs mgr, I refuse to drive the car again and gsm said I'd have to go to gm direct for a "buy back". The 1-800-222-1020# he gave me useless). Help!.
