36 Wheel problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 07/06/2014

Left to las vegas from los angeles 7/2/14jut beforing getting to las vegas the vehicle felt shaking or trembling but I atributted to the road. As time went by on fridat and Saturday it became more noticeable to me and my wife . I called the gm dealer in valencia CA and was told it could be the tire weights so I went to jiffy lube for inspection and there was no change on the tire weights. Driving back on Sunday at 6:30 am about 20 miles from baker the trembling got very bad to the point I decelerated but to no avail. It got to th point I called the gm dealer again around 7:30 am and during the conversation the driver rear tire blew up. I sent the tire to michelin and filed claim but they denied it on the basis that it hit an obstacle which is a complete fabrication of the events that lead to the tire blowing up. I would like to pursue legal action but I am trying to locate a government or state department who will inspect the tire and give me an honest result. I know for a fact that there was never any type of accident involving the tire except for th fact that it came apart from Thursday to Sunday. 45 Wheel problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 02/02/2013

You can not lower the spare tire, under the vehicle, this is a big problem and I am not the only person with this problem, the part that holds the spare tire has a spring loaded lock on it that cannot release because of a bad design off it,their is a video on youtube about it (good information about it) you need to cut the tire down with a cutting torch, this is a bad idea around a gas tank, I can not express how mad I am right now because I can't even think of that many cuss words, and it is going into heart a tack mode, I would love to meet the engineer that designed this, and have him change the tire, first you need a tow truck then a shop with a lift then two mechanics if not three and you then need a transmission jack to put upward pressure on the tire to release the tension of the locking device that holds the tire, after you let the air out of the tire, I can overhaul the engine and the transmission and anything else that need to be done to this or any other car,but this is a big big mistake in design, can you imagine a lady having to change a tire on the side of the road!!! if a mechanic (male or female) cant do it,how can the average consumer, do it? and why hasn't this been a recall,I know why it hasn't because people are forced to pay for it and forget it,well I bought the vehicle without looking for this problem because my wife and daughters and sons have all been properly trained on how to handle this problem, but it can't be done on this vehicle or any other chevy vehicle of this make from what I understand, you can not do this safely,no I don't have a flat tire either I was just explaining to the wife that it may be a little different so I wanted her to see it just incase she had a problem and she would be prepared on how to handle it (wrong) it should take ten or fifteen minutes to do, can't be done, and I can't believe it please contact me.

48 Wheel problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 12/06/2011

Gm/Chevrolet customer service will not correct safety issue with spare tire. Gm/Chevrolet customer service will not put response in writing. Gm/Chevrolet customer service will not discuss mixing of bridgestone and goodyear belt designs. The spare is not a "dummy tire" and is not a "fully operational spare" per gm. The spare cannot be used in 4wd, if spare used in 4wd warranty is voided. Gm/Chevrolet mixes tire mfg, tire design, tire # belts on drive tires and "spare". This is an unsafe act. The four drive tires are bridgestone dueller hl alenza p275-55r20 (2poly/2steel/1nylon belt). The spare tire is a goodyear wrangler hp p265-70r17 (2poly/2steel belt) (mfg design is fully operational) spare. Gm/Chevrolet had no disclosure about the odd spare category prior to purchase and not noted in window sticker. Owner manual is unclear about the spare and avoids any facts about the spare being goodyear and drive tires are bridgestone design. Gm/Chevrolet has created a third category for a spare: "bobo". Type 1 is fully operational spare, type 2 is a dummy spare (not fully operation), and type 3 is new and is a bobo spare, appears to be a fully operational tire but gm states not fully operational (and not a dummy tire too). There is absolutely no reason for gm to not have a bridgestone dueller hl alenza p265-70r17 tire on the spare rim, instead of a goodyear wrangler hpp265-70r17 tire. This would make all tires on the Tahoe bridgestone dueller hl alenza design/belts.

49 Wheel problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 11/19/2010

Abs light came on along with a loud hum and rattling from front tire area. Had to get the hub assembly replace. This happened around 90,000 miles with the front passenger side tire, and around 130,000 miles with the front driver side tire. Both mechanics I brought it to said this was a commoon problem for my type of vehicle. They also mentioned that when this occurs the entire wheel could fall off and result in a major accident if traveling at high speeds.

50 Wheel problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 06/17/2010

The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact was driving 4 mph when the tire detached from the assembly. The vehicle was towed to a private mechanic where they confirmed the failure and advised that the assembly was defective. The manufacturer was contacted and they advised the contact that the VIN was not included in the recall associated with NHTSA campaign id number:07e106000 (wheels:cap/cover/hub). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 110,000 and the current mileage was 126,000.

51 Wheel problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 04/17/2010

Twice in the past 5 years I have had a flat tire. I always have to endure the expense of a rollback wrecker to take me someplace to get my flat tire fixed. The reason is a terrible security latch on the spare tire that seizes up as soon as it first gets wet. This latch will not release allowing the cable to lower the spare tire to the ground. This has been a problem for years and, my 2003 silverado 1500 had the exact same problem. I am tired of all these expensive flat tires and lost time. I could change my own flat-if chevy would let me! help!!!.

52 Wheel problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 02/01/2010

Loosing air pressure from all 4 tires. Tires in good shape. Could not understand why loosing pressure. Caused vehicle to pull in whatever direction of tire pressure loss. Sometimes pulling really hard and making vehicle hard to handle. Could not let my teen learning to drive to drive this vehicle because of this. Took the vehicle to tire dealer and according to them they have seen this a lot with Chevrolet and the chrome dipped rims. What is going on is the inside of the chrome rims is rusting and flaking and causing the air to seep out. The rims have to be sanded down and painted with a special pain in the inside and according to the dealer this is not a long term fix and the rims would have to be replaced. Though they look good these chrome dipped rims could cause a big problem for people who are clueless to watching air pressure in their tires. I watch around and often see these Tahoe with low air pressure in the tires. I happen to work on cars myself and have good maintenance habits and can spot things such as low air pressures. Had I not I may been in a accident by now. I bought this vehicle used but had original rims. Also when we bought this vehicle the dealer had to put air in one tire and had it check before we left and all looked good and it was just assumed it was from sitting or something.

53 Wheel problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 09/13/2008

While driving at 55 mph in heavy (bumper to bumper) traffic on a 4 lane highway, I had a gut feeling to get off that main road so, I took a right onto a small country road. Not even a mile down the road there was a loud thump from the back of the Tahoe - sounded as though the bumper fell off and hit the road. Looked through my rearview mirror and saw something shoot straight back (would have been even with a car's windshield) and the thing curved up and went oven an enbankment. Husband got out while I looked under the back of Tahoe - the spare tire had broken loose and it was the tire that went down the embankment. The bracket holding it had broken. Had I stayed on the main highway, the tire would have shot through the car's windshield behing me and chanceses are 100% the person would have been decapated. Took the Tahoe to the dealer first thing Monday morning and they fixed it. Telling me they had never seen anything like this before. This Tahoe had about 50,000 miles, never been off road, never towed, never abused, and never bottomed out. My Tahoe is 2001 and just turned 122,000 miles - don't do a lot of driving and I keep it serviced. Do take care of what I own. Just in case you own a 2001 Tahoe, may want to have the bracket checked. Mine had just snapped - there was no rust - nothing that would cause this. Than goodness no one was hurt/killed. Last year the Tahoe had a bent rod, front end bracket/tie rod broken, transmission would not go out of 4wd, had it in the shop - all problems have come back- I spent over 4,000. 00 and I'm not spending anymore - this Tahoe just turned 122,000 miles. What the heck. I take good care of all my cars and this on just keeps having problems. (I'd have to find the list from the shop - but I have no more money to fix it or buy another - and I just love this thing :(.

54 Wheel problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 01/03/2006

I own a 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe in which I had to pay over $900 to have repaired to repair/replace front hub assemblies. This is for the same work that gm has recalled 1999 and newer vehicles that are used in areas of the country that use road salt. Those repairs were made just prior the recall that I think your agency forced gm to call for the very same issue. I contacted gm and was told that they only recall vehicles based on the number of complaints by year. The fact that the design is identical in my and the 1999 model was a non issue as far as they are concerned. I intend to look into a civil suit since I have no idea about how much time will be involved, but even though this may not help me, I thought that I could at least add my experience and name to see if it will generate sufficient numbers for gm to care about doing the right thing and adding this year to the recall. I am using the date that I first wrote to gm but my repairs were done 8/12/04. They assigned service request # 1 387872013 and told me that they were not even sure if I live in a state that is subject to the recall. They are wrong about that as well. Although I was not injured, it is only because I spent my own money when I went in complaining about the same thing that is now part of the recall.

55 Wheel problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 10/01/2005

I am the original owner of a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe that experienced abs cut-in at low speeds in dry weather in 2005 and was recalled under campaign 05v379000 / NHTSA action number : pe05020. The cut-in problem has recently returned, with exact same symptoms as before. I called gm as the original recall no longer appears to be in effect, but they do not appear to be willing/able to cover any repairs against that recall despite the corrosion treatment and lubrication obviously not being a permanent fix. Other gm vehicles impacted by the abs issue and which are still in service will begin to experience similar failures and NHTSA and gm need to recognize the original issue has not been resolved and take action.
