1 Carrier/rack problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Tracker

Failure Date: 10/19/2014

My front suspension crossmember completely corroded and cracked in half making my car not driveable. I located the special coverage program online as this appeared to be a common occurrence. I am the 2nd owner. I purchased this car from a woman who resides in assisted living and had been in assisted living since the special coverage notice. As she did not have a driver's license, this vehicle sat in her garage without the needed repair covered by gm until her family sold it to me in June. After a 90min call with a gm rep 10/20/14, I spoke with gm supvr reymar who assured me gm would cover cost to tow to the closest dealership as well as cover the repair. He left a vmail for the dealer but did not specify this offer. I left 5 unreturned vmails for reymar until I spoke with supvr becky 10/22/14. Becky adv she would have her direct report mya place a request for consideration stating this would need to be approved and reymar should not have promised to cover this repair. 10/27/14 shantinique 866-760-5700 x11798 called and very curtly advised this will not be covered and sarcastically reminded me of the expiration of said "special coverage. " I requested reymar's supervisor and shantinique advised "let me tell you what he will say. . He will say 'no'. . " I asked for reymar's supervisor again and was told she would have that person call me. 10/30/14 as I have not received a call back I called gm and after 21min I was directed to another rep. Linda. 16min later I was told by linda she would have shantinique's supvr khalilah call me within the next 48hrs.

2 Carrier/rack problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Tracker

Failure Date: 08/01/2012

My chevy Tracker has a broken crossmember/subframe/k-frame. Front suspension arms are mounted to this piece, it is the most important mounting point. It completely broke while driving, luckily at a very slow speed, no maj. Injury. Gm knows the bad part was in every Tracker/vitara -they say it wasn't treated properly, had no drain holes. There is a bulletin to replace this part (#06186),10 years or 150k miles -which specifies the repair is covoured if "displays the condition of" having the defect within that period. Fuller gm dealer agrees "clearly had the problem within the period based upon condition now". I've suffered the run-around between sr rep on the phone, and the local gm dealer. All say "would repair it if the other would". Gm by phone says it's up to the local, local says gm has to authorise repair. They all univ. Agreed with facts: had the problem within the bulletin's definition, yet insist there's no way for them to help, "the period is up" -which is a contradiction! this is an extremely dangerous failure, far worse than the ignition switch recall. In those cases, the car can still function with an aware driver. The Tracker failure is catastrophic. Gm says bulletin notice mailed out told owners to check for the "signs" every year, but only sent out one notice -not to the next owners (most manufs send notices for new owners)! owner of my car who maybe saw the notice died, so we had no warning to check for "signs". Every gm rep says that's their "regrettable policy". Gm and local fuller gm have wasted many hours/weeks of time, directing respons. To all others, saying will help and call back, not one has. Gm says "there's no recall because it wasn't a popular vehicle"*! I offered to pay for part, or work, meet halfway, they did not even consider. I want mine repaired +gm to admit responsibility. Please help, thanks! quotes actually said by gm.

3 Carrier/rack problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Tracker

Failure Date: 07/13/2007

The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Tracker. While driving 55 mph, the vehicle swerved to the left and nearly crashed into another vehicle. The contact has not taken the vehicle to a mechanic. He inspected the vehicle and claims to know why it failed. The current and failure mileages were 58,128.

4 Carrier/rack problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Tracker

Failure Date: 11/25/2006

Along with many other people who we've been talking to about this same problem on carspace. Com. The crossmember on my chevy Tracker rusted to shreds due to thin metal and lack of 4 drain holes. The new crossmember that was put on my car has 4 drain holes to allow the water to escape. Some Trackers have drain holes. We spent $1000 getting this fixed when it looks like someone went on a smoke break during an assembly line at the chevy plant. This is a dangerous mistake that chevy is blowing off as trivial. Something needs to be done. We take great care of our Tracker and it's in great condition. It was unexpected to put $1000 in to a car that otherwise runs great that shouldn't have even happened in the first place. What I experienced on the road because of this rusted piece of metal giving so quickly was very scary! I could have killed someone going 65 mph down the freeway had I not gotten it in right away. They determined it unsafe to drive until it was replaced and shocked at what they saw under my car! this was a stupid error that needs looked in to. The part needs to be recalled and people compensated.
