Three problems related to engine belts and pulleys have been reported for the 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Trailblazer sounds like a jet engine with a lot of "wind" noise. Took it to the dealer and found that the fan clutch went bad. Not only is the fan clutch failing on multiple Trailblazers but chevy made this part so dynamic that the cost is outrageous. Also, due to the fan clutch going bad it also damages the serpentine belt.
Sharp turn steering locks up. Passenger seat belt gets tighter and tighter doesn't release pressure. 4 wheel drive not working . Tapping sound in engine. The only thing the dealer has done is replace power steering pump and within 5 miles it was not working again.
While driving 40 mph steering pulley failed. Vehicle lost power. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. The vehicle switches itself into 4-wheel drive while the manual switch is in 2-wheel drive. The taillights failed. At new computer had to be installed. The rack and pinion needs to be replaced.
