While going home from work yesterday, someone pulled up and told me that my rear lights were out. Upon my husband inspecting the lights, he discovered that the connection to the rear brake lights is out. There was a recall done in 2004 but gm will not honor it.

6 Brake Light problem

Failure Date: 03/11/2008

2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer ex. Both brake lights were not working. The center high brake light was working. I took it to the dealer and was told the repair would be covered under my private extended warranty that I purchased with the vehicle. I stated I thought it might be covered under a recall or special policy extended warranty. The service person said that he would check. 1) there was recall NHTSA actions # ea04021 that does not include this year vehicle. 2) I was told there was a gm special policy that would cover the right taillight circuit board. I was told this failure caused the bulbs in the left brake light to fail. There is not policy to replace the left circuit board. If it fails there it will be covered for 6 years or 75,000 miles. My issue is it there is some sort of defect that is causing both brake lights to fail but there is not a recall for this year model.

7 Brake Light problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2008

The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer. While driving approximately 60 mph, the contact was pulled over by a police officer. He was informed that both the driver's and passenger side brake lights were inoperable. He drove the vehicle to his residence, checked the fuse panel, and noticed that the fuse was still good. The manufacturer stated that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 04v527000 (exterior lighting:brake lights). The manufacturer also stated that they were not obligated to perform the repairs on the vehicle. The dealer informed the contact to bring the vehicle to their establishment for inspection. The current mileage was 71,624 and failure mileage was 71,589.

8 Brake Light problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2005

My complaint is on the Chevrolet Trailblazer. I have personally witnessed at least 8 instances in my area where the brake lights on the Trailblazer don't work. The 3rd light on top of the lift gate works, but the regular brake lights don't work. Every time it has been both of them not working. That leads me to believe it isn't just a bulb being burnt out. I have luckily not witnessed any accidents resulting from this issue, but my father owns a Trailblazer and if there is something wrong electrically causing this problem I don't want the same thing to happen to his resulting in him potentially being rear ended. I saw one on i94 just east of i696 yesterday. I notified the woman and she said that she knew so hopefully it is just the bulbs, but I don't know for sure.

9 Brake Light problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2004

While driving consumer stepped on the brakes and directional signal became disengaged. Talso, brake light and the tail light became inoperable.
