Cruise Control problems of the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Nine problems related to cruise control have been reported for the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2012

I can start my vehicle and the gauges started sticking. I am constantly being shocked by the driver door. My gauges no longer work at all and have completely went haywire. I have no dash lights. My vehicle has just died in the middle of a busy street. I do not know how much fuel I have, how fast I am going. My cruise control either at times increases my speed or does not hold the speed. I have to use a gps device to know approximate speed. This vehicle needs to be recalled. I love my vehicle but it has tons of issues.

2 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 08/28/2011

The speedometer is not registering the correct speed, jumps around while driving and has affected the cruise control. I found that this issue is the same as nthsa item # 10023585 for most similar gm vehicles, but for some reason, this family of gm trucks was not included in the reported issue. When the vehicle is stopped, the speedometer needle drops well below 0 and then jumps around when the vehicle starts moving. Based on checks with our gps, the speedometer is off by as much as 20 mph.

3 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 06/26/2011

Speedometer goes completely out, falling below zero while traveling on road, typically after cruise control has been used, multiple warning lights flash while onstar and computer showing no codes after 4x4 used. Unable to diagnose problems because problem is intermittant and after vehicle parked for several hours problem is gone. Occurs about once a week. Has caused several instances of being unable to determine how fast your traveling. 2004 chevy Trailblazer ext lt 4x4 i6 engine.

4 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2011

My vehicle is currently at 116,000 miles and the speedometer and tachometer all of a sudden went to zero. It continued to stay at zero after I turned the vehicle off. The next time I drove it, it stayed at zero until halfway through my drive when now its stuck at 61 mph, which is where my cruise control was set. The tach now works half the time but the speedometer is giving me misleading information. I live in wisconsin where the weather is such a variable. I am always using my speedometer in certain road conditions. I have certain speeds I go in certain conditions (light snow, deeper snow, rain to freezing rain, freezing rain, slushy conditions, ice, sleet and just plain normal. ) consequences for not retaining the correct speeds in certain conditions in wisconsin. . . . Gee let me think. . . . Death would probably be the worst. Nothing's been done to fix this yet because I cannot afford it. It's one of those things that should just work and its a damn shame gm hasn't done anything yet considering all the problems.

5 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 01/29/2010

I was driving at highway speed (approximately 65mph) with the cruise control set, when my vehicle suddenly responded like I had slammed the gas pedal down to the floor. My speed climbed rapidly, but I had the presence of mind to drop the truck into neutral (the tachometer continued to be at its maximum level and the engine still whined high) and steer to safety, across several lanes of traffic, to the breakdown lane. When I shut the vehicle off and turned it back on again, this issue was no longer present.

6 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2005

2004 Chevrolet, trail blazer. The cruise control does not work properly. The cruise control does not stop the vehicle from increasing in speed when going down an incline. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer who said that there was nothing they could do to fix this problem. When the consumer contacted GMC, they said that it was normal and it was designed that way to save fuel. Gm also informed the consumer to use lower gears when going down hill. The mileage would still increase when in third gear.

7 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2004

The consumer experienced a bucking problem when using the cruise control option. The fuel supply seemed to be intermittent. Chevrolet advised the consumer that this was the normal condition.

8 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2004

I have a 2004 trail blazer ext. At about 2200 miles the cruise control stopped working, and when I got an appointment to take it in, they told me, that in fact it wasn't an issue with the cruise control, that there had been a short in the torque control converter solonoid which was a problem with the engine. They had a part overnighted to alderman's Chevrolet, who fixed it quickly and made sure I had a rental while it was in being fixed, but a week and a half later, the same thing happened again. I am taking it in tomorrow, but I am afraid there is going to be permanant damage to my engine because this thing when broken affects the shifting of the engine. I am wondering if I just got a lemon or if this is a common problem with these vehicles. It only has 3500 miles on it, it shouldn't be in the shop twice already for repairs.

9 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2004

While cruise control is engaged, engine stutters after cresting a hill, more or less coasting down the other side.
