2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer. Consumer writes in regards to fuel tank inlet check valve mileage restrictions repair issues. The dealer would not honor the special coverage adjustment program, because the consumer's vehicle had high mileage.
I have a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer ext with 161,000 miles on it. A few weeks ago I got to noticing a real strong gas odor in and around the vehicle. I have done a lot of research and have had the vehicle checked out and came to the conclusion that it is the common problem that is affecting many other Trailblazer ext owners. It is the fuel tank inlet check valve at the top of the fuel tank. In doing my research I have noticed that many people have had this issue fixed by some recalls that have been issued so I took the vehicle to my local Chevrolet dealer to find out about it only to be informed that mine is 41,000 miles past the recall mileage and will cost upwards of $1,000 to fix. I am worried about a possible fire or explosion with this issue. I am afraid to drive it to work every day and to use it to take my children to school. I just wish that Chevrolet would fix this so I don't have to worry every day about driving it. I don't feel that there should be a mileage restriction on a safety issue that could result in death or great injury.
I first starting smell gas out side the Trailblazer after filling it up. I looked at the fuel tank and looks to be leaking at the filler neck. Now I am smell gas coming through the vents inside the vehicle.
The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer LS. The contact noticed after refueling the vehicle to capacity, the fuel would leak onto the ground. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed the contact that the top portion of the fuel tank was fractured. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified of the problem. There was a technical service bulletin pertaining to the defect under NHTSA item number 10026522 (fuel system, other:storage:tank assembly). The approximate failure mileage was 125,000.
While getting a tuneup, third party mechanic advised me that there was a crack in the neck of the gas tank, where the filler tube meets the tank itself. I was advised there was a recall on the 2003 chevy Trailblazer for the same defect. I was also advised there was a NHTSA investigation. I was told my VIN# did not fall within the recall. The third party mechanic advised $800 to replace the tank. I called gm customer service and was told to take it to a gm dealer and have a gm certified mechanic verifiy the third party mechanic's findings. I did so and was charged by the gm dealer to verify there was a crack. When gm customer service called back and verified that there was a problem, they assigned me to a gm customer assistance representative who would investigate if they could assist me with the repairs. Approximately 10 days later I was advised that they would not be able to assist me because the problem I was experiencing was due to age and mileage of the vehicle. There are numerous reports of owners of 2004 chevy Trailblazer owners on the internet that have experienced the exact same problem with fractured, cracked and broken connections on the gas tank where the filler tube meets the tank. I don't understand why a recall for this has not been issued. My vehicle is 7 years old and has less than 90,000 miles on it. We don't live in a state that is considered to be a "corrosive hazard state". If the same problem is happening to the same part on the same vehicle, what is keeping a recall from being issued?????????.
Tl- the contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that after refueling, fuel would spill out from the filler neck. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where they advised her that there was a hole in the fuel tank and the filler was fractured. The entire fuel tank would need to be replaced. The vehicle fuel tank was replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000. Kmj.
2004 chevy Trailblazer LS 4wd. I had noticed a strong smell of gasoline. About two days later my service engine soon light came on. I took it to a mechanic to have it checked out and was told that there was an evaporative leak detected according to the codes that the computer was giving. The mechanic then checked the vehicle further and notice that there was a hairline fracture in the fuel tank near the filler nozzle. I was told that this was a very common problem with this vehicle and he told me to contact chevy for a possible recall. I did contact chevy and was told there was no recall but I could take it to a chevy dealership and have it fixed at my expense. I can not even park this vehicle in my garage for risk of a fire and the vehicle can not pass emissions inspection because it has a leak. I have received a citation for failure to inspect because it wont pass the inspection process. It will cost me approx $800 to have this fixed.
We have a low mileage 2004 chevy trail blazer (under 45,000 miles as of September 2011). In March 2011, the check engine light illuminated. We had the oil changed and tried some fixes with the battery cables. All reset the engine light, but each time the light would again illuminate after several days had passed. In August 2011, we took it to texas auto service to have them test the engine light sensor and we then paid for them to replace the canister vent solenoid. Once again, the light turned off for a period of days and then came back on. In late September we took it to firestone - and after 2 days of testing, it was determined that the fuel tank had a crack. We then picked it up from firestone and took it to bankston cheverolet in ft worth - after another day of testing, they concurred and we were forced to pay $1336. 18 to have the fuel tank replaced. . . Otherwise we ran the risk of a fire. We did research and find that many of the gm trucks have had recalls on this specific failure - but not our specific year/model and VIN number.
The fuel tank is leaking. The fill tube seperated from the tank and is leaking fuel onto the tank. There is a strong fuel odor as well. Called Chevrolet they stated that vehicles are only being repaired for this issue in nothern, easter and mdwestern states. Stated they will not fix my issue athough it has the same issues covered under the special coverage, due to my geographic location.
Fuel tank leak on 2004 chevy Trailblazer.
2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer LS 4. 2 i6-ses light went off while driving. Took it to autozone and the scanner read code p0455. Had a mechanic look at it and he found a crack on the gas tank at the neck where it connects to the filler neck. This repair runs into the hundreds of dollars which I do not have. I haven't even finished paying off the car yet. I researched the problem online and have found quite a few Trailblazer ownerswith the exact same problem.
Not sure what to file this under, so I put it under fuel system, gasoline. Same day I was having problems with speedometer I was having problems with the gas gage. The arrow would go way past full, when I knew I only had about half a tank. The gas gage has been acting up ever since, I just have to keep track of my mileage to know when to fill it up. Have not had the problem fixed yet.
The fuel gauge does not work properly. It sometimes indicates there is more fuel than there actually is in the tank. Sometimes it shows it is empty when it is not.
2004 chevy Trailblazer ext northface edition with the v8 engine is leaking gas due to a crack in the gas tank and the repair is over 1000$, my truck only has 7500 miles on it and everything seems to be messing up.
My 2004 chevy Trailblazer has a gas leak leaks when running and that poses a danger to everyone that has this model gas tank this is clearly a defect many people online have posted about it its seems to be in a range from 2002 2004 Trailblazer envoy that's what I've found out from my research.
Fuel sending unit stops sending correct information to the fuel gauge causing improper fuel level reading which lead to inadvertently running out of fuel in middle of the highway. Fuel gate will stay at 1/4 full the entire time. With a full tank of gas the gauge still reads 1/4 full. The operator has to guess how much gas is left in the tank.
The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that the vehicle was leaking fuel. The contact stated that the fuel odor was very strong when fuel was added to the fuel tank. The smell began to fade after the fuel started to burn. The contacts mechanic stated that the failure was coming from the fuel tank module, which failed. The failure mileage was 75000 and the current mileage was 126030. Updated 05/03/lj.
1. There is no event that led to the failure, rather it is a crack at the gas tank neck, which is covered on document 07099a for the Chevrolet Trailblazer ext, however I have the Trailblazer lt which suffers from the same symptoms. 2. As it is a crack there is fuel leaking as well as fumes into the vehicle cabin. 3. Gm does not want to cover the cost to fix the replacement of the fuel tank and labor as covered for the Trailblazer ext.
Crack in my fuel tank in my 2004 chevy Trailblazer.
The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet trail blazer. The contact stated that after refueling, the smell of gasoline fuel was emitted inside of the vehicle. The check engine warning light was also illuminated during the failure . The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where the mechanic confirmed that the fuel tank needed to be replaced due to a leak. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 99,000.
Crack in fuel tank 2004 chevy Trailblazer LS. Crack is just below where the filler tube goes into tank. I have researched online and find that this is a common problem but there is no recall. I am concerned about a fire and explosion. A new fuel tank from the dealer is over $1000. I have tried to patch it but it is made of a special plastic that is herd to repair.
Check engine light came on; has come on recurrently since (code p0442), which indicates leak in fuel evap system. Analyzed by independent tech and powers-swain Chevrolet (a gm dealer) verifies fuel tank inlet check valve fracture. Gm's resolution to date is refusal to act due to age/mileage of car. Gm has a recall for same defect on long body 2002-2004 models. Their campaign 07099a is part of their recall. I have seen many other Trailblazer fuel system problems on internet sites. This defect allows fuel vapor (possibly ignitable) to escape in the vicinity of electrical connections. There needs to be a recall on this defect, regardless of age/mileage of vehicles.
The fuel tank on my 2004 chevy Trailblazer is leaking fuel due to corrosion. I have tried to fix the problem myself but was unsuccessful. My local chevy dealership recognizes a service bulletin but says it doesn't pertain to my vehicle since it hasn't been registered in certain states.
The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer. She smelled a strong odor of gasoline in her vehicle. A technician from the dealer concluded that the fuel tank developed a fatigue crack and needed to be replaced. The contact was responsible for the repair cost. The failure mileage was 139,211. The service engine light on our chevy 2004 Trailblazer LS came on. Took the vehicle to our mechanic who said there is a small crack in the fuel tank. I drove the vehicle out of town to a mechanic we highly trust explained the problem and were advised to take the vehicle to the dealership because he believed there was a special warranty in place for emissions problems. While at the dealership they confirmed there is a fuel tank inlet check valve fracture and should be covered under the special coverage adjustment #07099a. At the end of the day I was told my particular vehicle could not be covered because of the break in the VIN number. I then contacted gm personally and talked to a specialist who said she would have to look into it. She got back to me and basically said there is nothing gm can do because the warranty only covers the ext model, even though this is obviously a factory defect and a safety hazard! I was told my vehicle would be used for future evidence that this seems to be occurring in our particular model "trailblazer LS". So we are left with a cracked fuel tank that gm refuses to take care of.
I have a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer LS that seems to have a very strong gas odor in the cabin and also drips gas underneath the gas tank. I heard that there was recall due to fuel odors in the cabin of the vehicle and drops of gasoline on the ground from the fuel tank inlet valve. I can't fill my tank up because of loss of fuel and odor inside vehicle. Also, I have the constant fear of my vehicle exploding at any given time. Please help or give advise at what I should do!!.
The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that his gas tank filler neck failed and was loose. As a result, fuel leaks out. The manufacturer and dealer stated that the VIN was not covered under the recall and they only offered to pay 50% of the repair cost. The failure mileage was 55,000. Updated 02/04/09 the consumer looked underneath the vehicle and discovered gas was seeping from what appeared to be where the rubber hose from the filler neck attaches to the gas tank and was seeping down onto the bottom of the gas tank. Updated 02/04/09.
A small crack or fracture has developed in the fuel tank filler neck. This will cause the check engine light to come on and may cause the tb to idle poorly when cold. There is a smell of gasoline.
Faulty gas tank filler neck on my 04 chevy Trailblazer I've done research on the web and found there are many Trailblazers with the same problem I'm having and there should be a recall on this because it is dangerous to have fuel leaking out of the gas tank I took it to the dealer(grossinger in lincolnwood IL) and was told the tank would cost me 1200 dollars I can't afford that and pay a car note I'm hoping you could help me with gm I don't know what else to do.
I purchased a 2004 chevy Trailblazer. Everytime I fill the tank I have a strong order of gas. I took my vehicle to the dealership today and they told me that I have a leak in my gas tank and that I need a new gas tank. I searched and found that there are alot of complaints regarding this same issue with other trail blazer owners. I would like for gm to compensate or pay for the repairs that I had no idea about. I would not have purchased the vehicle if I knew that it had a complaint of this magnitude. This is a costly repair. Even at the price of gas - I do not have money to waste purchasing it for it to just leak out my vehicle. I am also required to take the vehicle through emissions but can not until the "service engine soon" light goes off. It won't go off until the gas tank is fixed. My license iis in jeopardy because or state (illinois) requires that this is done within a certain time period. I have already received 1 ticket for this because my plates can not be renewed as well until the emissions has passed.
I have 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer. I am receiving a "service engine soon" error. I took my vehicle to a Chevrolet dealer and it was determined I had a crack in my fuel tank, p0442. I have did some research and discovered other people was having the same problem. The only the solution to the problem is to have the fuel tank replace. I have owned several vehicles and this is the first vehicle that I need the fuel tank replaced. I am very afraid for the safety of my family along with other family. This issue must be addressed to prevent any fatalities and I think gm should take ownership of the problem.
I stated to smell gas on my 2004 chevy Trailblazer. About a week later it started leaking gas. I am stationed @ ft. Campbell and my mother living in PA had received a letter stating that there was a recall on 2004 Trailblazers due to corrosion dealing with the gas tank assembly area. I took my SUV to a chevy dealer named james corlew Chevrolet in tenn. They informed me that they had not heard of the recall and that it was going to cost me $2645 to fix it. They informed me that the problem was due to a large number of items dealing with the gas tank area assembly rusting and corroding. With me being in the military I need to travel alot to complete various training school. I was informed by my chain of command to report this to the government and if no response to contact my jag department due to the fact that this is a severe safety problem I wont be able to bring my vehicle on to post.
I received a notice from Chevrolet dated October 2008 regarding my 2004 Trailblazer ext. The notice stated a fuel tank modular reservoir assembly may develop due to corrosion and allow fuel to leak. I was informed that I must wait for the corrosion to cause a leak of fuel (and risk a fire hazard) for the repair to be covered. I was also instructed not to take my vehicle to my Chevrolet dealer as a result of the notice. I think this a playing russian roulette with all of the owners of 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazers. This is unfair and dangerous in my opinion. I called the Chevrolet customer assistance center at 899-630-2438. I was informed I must comply with the notice and that if I took the car in to the dealer, I would be charged for the service review of the problem.
I have taken very good care of my SUV. I bought it brand new and have never taken it off road. The service light came on and I took it to the dealer ASAP. They did a thorough check and found out my gas tank has a leak. The mechanic said there is nothing I could do except purchase a brand new fuel tank. He had also seen this problem before and that there was no recall on this.
