36 problems related to exterior lighting have been reported for the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
My lights come on and turns off at night sometimes and now my right low beams stopped working. I noticed when I was getting in my car at night.
Lights go on and off setting still.
While driving down the interstate at night my dim lights went completely out and would not come back on. I had to drive the remainder of the way with my bright lights blinding cars in front of me and in coming. Since the first incident this has continued to happen.
Most recent, I am driving down the road my head lights go out. Nothing else, just the main head lights. All. Otjer lights stay on. High beams work, parking lights stay on. This is not safe!!!.
My gas gauge is sitting on bottom instead of top where it's supposed to be. I don't know how much gas in my car. An I have 2 small kids an one has a heart condition. An I'm on a fixed income. An also my head lights go off an on all the time day or night.
Both headlamps went out same night. High beams work. Checked fuses all are fine. Very dangerous as high beams are not meant to be used in this fashion. I see there are recalls on same model other years.
Leaving from work at night and when car initially was turned on, the low beams illuminated, but then went off. I had to drive home using fog lamps and high beams only. They never did come on in a 25 minute drive. I see that this is a common problem with this make and model, and it appears that the 2006 are in a recall for this, but not the 2005. Very unsafe! my kids are supposed to drive this car, but now I'm not so sure!.
While driving at night I have an intermittent problem where the headlamp low beams just go out. I have moved relays around but it doesn't correct the problem. I have been stopped by police several times because I am blinding other drivers because I have to drive with brights lit. I see they recalled the 2006 and later models for this problem. I work at a shop and we see , on average, 10 per year that are 2005 and that's just in our small community. If I set a half hour, sometimes an hour then the dims start working again. The most recent time was may 5th of 2018.
Low beams go out while driving down the road. Not every morning but 2 to 3 times a week this happens to me. It is dangerous but it doesn't really scare me anymore. It has happens while driving down the road, when I stop at the end of my road.
While driving the dim lights turn off by them selves. Now they will not turn on at all. I have replaced relays and fuses. No help.
While driving several times the head lights have went out or dimmed a lot.
The low beam headlamps fail simultaneously. This occurs while driving at night. I have replaced the hdm solid state relay twice, but after a time. 6 months to a year, the failure occurs again. Once the hdm module became to hot to touch upon failing. This last time, the third, the lights may come on again after some time has passed. It is as if the module is short circuiting or overheating leading to a short circuit.
Day/dim lights kept going off while driving at dark. And now they wont come on at all. Having to drive with brights on. Just wandering what do I do. Or how much would it cost to fix it . Im tired of getting bright lighted from other cars that I pass. Theres been a recall for this particular problem but my vehicle is not on there. Not sure on the date below, just and estimate.
My daytime running lights low beams come on and off, I replaced the driver control module relay, the bulbs, fuses under the hood, and the multifunction switch. My light's still come on and off. I don't know what to do now about this matter. Please help me. It happens on stationary, in motion on city and highway street at random. I have nothing to upload the work has been done by me. This has been going on for just about 3 months now, I can't drive at night.
Low beam lighting was out when the vehicle was turned on at 2030. It did not come on while driving (20 minutes) so I had to use the high beams. I did check multiple times while driving.
While driving southbound on I-75 in michigan at approximately 9:10 pm on August 16, 2015, the low beam head lights went out near mile marker 180. The high beam lights and running lights continued to work. The low beam lights remained off until after I exited I-75 at the southbound 155 exit. After leaving the exit and driving an additional 4 miles, I again tried the low beams and they worked. I later got back into the vehicle (after it was off for approximately 30 minutes) and the low beam lights were again off. They would not come back on and I left the vehicle. The following morning, the low beam lights were functioning again. This situation has been reported to the executive customer service office at gm and they have stated that there is not a current recall and therefore they will not repair it.
The contact owns 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that while driving at 40 mph, there was a burning odor inside the vehicle. The contact pulled over and inspected the head lights and noticed they were melted on the inside. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 108,000.
While driving home one night around 9:30 pm from the local wal-mart, I turned out onto a highway/public street and my head lights went out. They would not come back on no matter what I did. I went home thinking my lights were completely out but when I pulled into my drive and hit the high beams they worked just fine. My low beams did not come back on until early the next morning. It has happened several times since then.
Lights go out/dim while driving. No additional electrical items in use-heater, ac, gps, radio, cigarette lighter. Does not appear to be affected or caused by speed, acceleration, deceleration. Fule tank will sometimes register empty while mostly full. Do not notice problem during daylight driving.
Vehicle's headlamps will power surge, dim while driving periodically. Fuel sensor showed constant empty until repaired by the recall. Vehicle will occasionally surge forward revving on it's own at random times. The blower resistor pack has burnt up twice, the blower motor has been replaced as well as the melted wires. Now the vehicle will not start. The power windows, locks, radio, dome lights, dash lights are inoperative and the vehicle will not attempt to turn over. Seems like this vehicle has had a lot of electrical issues.
While putting the truck into 4x4 hi, lo, or all wheel drive, the transfer case never does fully put it into 4x4. While driving, the dim lights turn completely off. The brights work, but the dims do not. These will not turn back on until the truck is shut off or a proper bump is hit. The heater blower in the front sometimes will nit come on. The back will be blowing, not the front. Also if a bump is hit improperly, the back speakers will start buzzing.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 50 mph, the head lights failed to illuminate. The contact stated that after turning the vehicle off and restarting it, the lights resumed normal function. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not notified about problem. The contact stated that the failure had recurred multiple times. The approximate failure mileage was 126,000.
Lowered the driver's power window & it didn't go back up. Opened & closed door & tried button a few more times, then it went up. Unsure of burn smell as I was on highway. Checked again while stationary & window button non functional. Noted that interior dome light did not light when door opened & all power buttons in driver's door (windows, locks, mirrors) rendered non-functional. Also noted that this door does not respond to remote keyfob for lock/unlock, and door by-passes alarm system. Alarm can be set, door opened with key and alarm will only trigger when key is put into ignition, but unarms when ignition cranks. It should also be noted that the driver's door is the only door that has a key lock mechanism. The rest of the vehicle relies on remote or door switches. Approximately one year later I opened the door (as I could not put the window down) and the interior dome light lit, so I tried the power lock button and it worked. Twice. The entire door again went dead/non-responsive. Without window access, the door must be opened on highways with toll booths. The lack of interior light, inability to readily access the door locks, and the alarm by-pass creates a security issue. The inability to adjust the mirrors creates a safety issue, as the window cannot be lowered. The driver's door no longer locks when the vehicle is put into drive. The scariest thing is that the controls simply stopped. Why? a short in the system is a very logical possibility, especially with the random functioning just a year later. I have noted multiple issues on repair sites referencing this problem with 2005 Trailblazers, and as of today (6/15/13) saw a recall for a short in the door for 2006/7 Trailblazers. If the same issue is occurring with other years, wouldn't it follow that it was a flaw that should be reviewed in all Trailblazers of the same body styling?.
The low beams on my wife 2005 Trailblazer went out while we driving home to va from SC. They still wont work. Apparently mine aint the only vehicle with this problem. Why wont chevy recall them and repair them.
The Trailblazer I bought seem to be more of a headache the a sport vehical. I wish I had look better at all the inforamtion the was out there. I will not purchase another one, or recamend this vehical to anyone. Sorry I bought it.
I was driving on the freeway when I noticed my speedometer suddenly went to 100 miles an hour. I knew this could not be the case as my gps showed I was traveling at 55mph. It then went to 120miles an hour and flip. Flopped back and forth. I went to the Chevrolet dealership and they informed me it was the electrical cluster and even though there were many complaints, Chevrolet would not pay for it. The cost to me would be over $500 I live on a small social security check, so could not afford to repair it. Next at 85,000 miles the fuel gauge went haywire and would not register any fuel although I would fill it completely. Also, the lights blink off and on when I am driving at night, so, I am afraid I will be stranded somewhere in the dark with my car quitting all together. This was my last car purchase before I retired and I am just sick that the Chevrolet company will not fix these defects. . . They fix the same cluster in their Chevrolet trucks. . . . Why not in the cars? by the way, I just got a letter last week saying they would "split the cost " to fix the fuel gauge. . . (my cost is $200 1/3 of my social security check!!.
Fuel guage defect; reads empty when the vehicle has gas in it. Also reads a higher level of gas than what is actually in it. Every morning when starting the vehcile the fuel guauge light comes on even when the vehicle has gas. I never know how much gas is in the vehicle, I am worried it will shut off when driving down the road. This began at 80000 miles, and has been constant ever since.
I was at the gas station filling my tank and the check engine light flashed on and then the low fuel warning message came on in the message center along with the low fuel indicator by the fuel gauge. I turned the truck off and on and the warning message and low fuel light stayed on. After driving for a while, it eventually goes off, but the fuel gauge does not register more than a 1/4 of a tank even when filled up and the warning message comes on along with the low fuel indicator as soon as I start the truck after filling the tank and when the truck is idling, the low fuel message and light come on. Another issue with the truck is that the lighting system dims while driving and when I bought this issue up at the dealership, they said it was a known issue with the truck, but did nothing to correct the problem.
No crash or injury, but am really afraid of something happening with my son in the SUV. My head lights flicker when I slow down and worried that one day they are going to shut off and not come back on. My gas gauge was the next thing that stopped working and now my speedometer is not working now. Just like others I thought that I was getting a quality vehicle, at least Toyota corrects their mistakes!!.
I bought a 2005 Chevrolete Trailblazer about 2 years ago, it only had 49,000 miles on it when I bought it. The right taillight is not working, it hasn't worked since about a month after I bought it. I have fixed the problem twice and it just keeds tearing up. I feel this is a great safety hazard and could cause a lot of deaths because a person can not tell if your slowing down and cause a wreck. I feel like Chevrolete needs to recall this problem. I have noticed that mine isn't the only one that is tore up around my small town of 17. 000 people. I have noticed at least 5 more just in this town that are not working properly either.
I have a 2005 Trailblazer. The dim lights just go off, they may stay off anywhere from 5-20 minutes. We have taken it to the dealer multiple times. They kept it overnight and had a technician drive it in an attempt to duplicate the problem. We have changed all of the relays and fuses and replaced the bulbs. I am scared to be out at night because of it as I am not always in a place where I can pull over to wait for them to come back on, yet unfortunately,I work evening shift, therefore it is a requirement. This is not safe and I asked if things such as this are routinely reported to the manufacturer. I was given a very evasive answer. The brights still work, however that is not safe for other drivers. I have found a lot of complaints of the same nature regarding the Trailblazer on the internet. One would think gm would do something about it, or will they again wait until someone is killed?.
Head lights dim and brighten while driving. With no reason the lights get very dim and a second later the lights brighten and this cycles over and over. This is very unsafe. Other drivers think I want then to stop or slow down or pull over.
Lights dim and brighten at night with corresponding drops in voltage on my wife's 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer lt. Looks like I am dimming my lights, have noticed responses from other motorists. Several Trailblazer owners are reporting this problem.
Dash lights come on all the time . Had it in to local dealer . We have took it in all the time they have replace everything they could to find problem. Still didn't fix it. Warranted run out. Even took in and pd for ourselves still not fixed lights come on now and stay on. Can't keep taking in don't have money to take in.
2005 ext Trailblazer rear plastic molding containing the 3rd brakelight separated from the window at least 3x since I have owned this vehicle. Once even falling completely off severing the wires and landing in the roadway. I noticed the first separation less than 6 months after getting vehicle brand new. It has separated again and dealer says that it is not covered under warranty because it is considered cosmetic even though the vehicle was still under lease for another year. He also informed me that it happens to everyone he has seen and there is nothing they can do to stop it from happening that it is a flaw in the engineering, but they wouldn't hold it against me when I turn my lease in.
