general problems of the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer

If gm knows about the exhaust manifolds on these Trailblazers that warp and leak exhaust why are they not fixing them. It's a on going problem.

When driving, the car will stop accelerating, reduce speed even when I'm on the gas. Car can go weeks without problem, then it happens. Chevy can't find anything wrong. It has happened on the expressway driving 65+ mph and in the neighborhood driving 20 mph. Has been in shop numerous timestoo dangerous to drive. .

While traveling at night on a level two-lane highway that carries high traffic rates, the vehicle suddenly lost engine power, began to feel as though the brakes came on, the dashboard lights dimmed, and the traction control symbol started flashing. Vehicles behind me quickly braked to avoid a rear collision, as their headlight beams rapidly changed direction and dipped towards the pavement. Then about 6~8 seconds later the traction control light remained on full illumination, then went out, and the engine speed picked up. As I almost was in a surprise rear-end collision, I took the vehicle to the nearest, open Chevrolet dealer the earliest I could get it diagnosed. It turns out the steering sensor was defective and had to be replaced at a cost of $392. 00. Surprise power loss and subsequent braking making a dangerous situation at higher highway speeds is what made me get it repaired as soon as possible.

Driving on thr highway traveling about 60. When all of a sudden my truck shut down, thought my foot had got off the peddle but was still on the gas. Put my hazxatds on and prayed I wasn't going to get smashed by traffic. Then my check engine light came on. And the the second engine light came on. As I pull to side of road stop the car put it in park. And tried to start it and all it did was crank and not turn over like I was out of gas. Did research on conditions and it came back default ignition switch. This has just been a nightmare. Only to arrive at chevy. And look my VIN number up and said your VIN doesn't pull up any recalls? hun you got to be kidding me right. Clearly I thought recalls from a certain yr to a ending year is supposed to be handled? I dont know whats going on but please help fix this horrible what cuold have been tragic situation.

I recently purchased this vehicle 3 weeks ago from a dealer in st augustine, florida. The engine will just shut off when I am driving, I have two young children and am concerned that this could cause an accident when driving. I have not been able to get any help from the dealer where I purchased the vehicle even to do a diagnostic on the vehicle. Has there been any problems/ recalls with the ignition switch on this make and model, even when at idle it will shut off, without touching anything.

Traction control light and the light beside it stay on 24/7. I have had it at my mechanic who has sent it to the dealership as well and have replaced all parts but the computer to my car. I cannot afford to replace the computer and not know if that is the fix. My head lights flicker and some days turn off which have been recalled but when I give my VIN the dealer tells me I have zero recalls. They do this when sitting still, driving slow or even on the highway. I have cars thinking I am flashing them some times when I am not. If I roll my windows up they dim. I also was pulling out of a parking lot when my car stalled on me. When I coasted down the hill to stop, the car started. My mechanic put it on computer but the code was an "unexplained" reason, basically no one know why or if my car will do it again. I have had issues with this car from the day I bought it. I have taken it to dealership over the headlights but it was daylight and they did not see it so said they couldn't help me. I am so over my car, I am to the point I will not own another gm product. I have seen 3 recalls in the news that match my year and make, but my "VIN" says otherwise. I feel like I am driving a ticking time bomb. My computer lights have been on for 3 years now, headlights have done this since I bought the car in 2008, and it stalled beginning of spring 2015. I just want a safe reliable vehicle!.

Takata recall if fluid, such as melted snow containing road salt, enters the driver's door module, it may cause corrosion that could result in a short in the circuit board. A short may cause the power door lock and power window switches to function intermittently or may stop working. The dealership cannot fix the vehicle due to the vehicle being a total loss on March 1 of 2015.

I am having this issue, for a few weeks now, the key gets locked in the ingtiniotn switch, will not turn off, it drain the battery the first day, now I have to disconect battery, then when it finnaly locked it did not want to start, I could not start the vehicle for almost two days, and I cannot afford to take it to a mechanic right now.

4wd switch no longer lit up to show what it was in (4 options: 2wd, auto, 4h, 4l). Control module changed and now stability control is permanently lit up as well as original problem exists. Other than to continue to change part after part after part and sink thousands of dollars into an undiagnosible problem there doesn't seem to be an answer. Meantime the vehicle is unsafe to drive.

Ignition switch key cant be released when trying to go to the lock position when in park.

I was involved in an automobile accident out of state. I was traveling during the evening hours to try to avoid heavy traffic. I started having trouble with the dim lights and could only proceed using the bright lights. The next thing I realize is that I am unable to control the vehicle and struck another vehicle on the road. I then proceeded to slide down an embankment approximately 30 feet. My vehicle sustained enormous damage to the front and side of the vehicle. The front airbags did not deploy and my vehicle was deemed totaled by my insurer.

The problem started on Wednesday January 21, 2015; I started my car up to let it warm up while I dusted off the snow. I notice my heated seats were not working. I turned the car off and restarted it. As soon as I restarted it the car began to backfire and stale. It would start but then stale out. I had to get the trucked towed to the local mechanic. I pick up my truck that evening and it ran fine. The next morning Thursday January 22, I got in my truck and it started right up. However, every stop I came to the truck just shut off. I restarted it and then would just shut off at the next stop. The engine light did not come on until I was drive to the mechanic. Again that evening I picked up my truck and everything was fine. Friday January 23, I was driving my 7 year old to school and the car just shut off while I was driving down a steep hill. I had no brakes or steering. This happened 3 times. I again took my car to the mechanic. He kept my car for 4 day. I finally picked it up yesterday January 24 and it is still not fixed. My mechanic said he is stumped. It drove great after picking it up. Then this morning January 25, as I was taking my daughter to school, my car shut off 3 time while I was driving down two hills. Then it staled 2 more times while I was a red lights. I nearly missed two accidents. By doing research online I found hundreds upon hundreds of complaints from people having the same issue. I call the local chevy mechanic and he said this is an known problem. I called chevy directly and they too are aware of the problem and number of complaints. I even found complaints on this very site. I'm just curious if someone has to die before this problem gets fixed. I have a recall on my drivers door for a part that catches fire, but no recall for the truck just shutting off when in motion. Doesn't make sense to me.

(on or about Jan 9, 2015) upon driving at approximately 40 mph, the 2006 Trailblazer stalled. I was very fortunate that no car was behind me since it was a two lane highway, and I surely would have been rear ended. At that time the passlock light lit on the dashboard. I immediately put the car in park and it started. (again on Feb 4, 2015) driving on a three lane highway and travelling at approximately 25 mph (intending to turn left in a approx 50 yards) in the middle lane, the Trailblazer stalled. Again the passlock light lit on the dashboard, I again quickly put the car in park and it started. Again we were fortunate not to have a car directly behind us, or we would have surely been rear ended!.

4wd disengages and becomes 2wd only 4wd will not reengage.

On Tuesday, October 21, 2014, at approximately 11:30 a. M. While my husband and I were driving on the west side of the standing rock sioux reservation my 2006 Trailblazer ext caught on fire. We both smelled smoke, parked (didn't turn off the ignition) and flames began to shoot out from underneath the front driver's side of the vehicle. We got out and ran to the west side of the roadway as the fire engulfed the entire front motor area. My purse was still in the burning vehicle and I told my husband he ran back to the burning vehicle to retrieve it. He sustained burns to his hands, face, legs and feet. In addition he received smoke inhalation to a degree of a "black out" stage. We witnessed the tires burn up one after another, beginning with the front driver's side, then the passenger side, the rear driver's and the passenger's side - at this point we moved further away from the burning vehicle as we expected the car to explode once it reached the gas tank area, but somehow the gas tank didn't explode. In fact, the spare tire which sits underneath the gas tank received a slight singe and did not burn (along with the gas tank). The only warning we had was the "smell of smoke" - the Trailblazer's dash warning light did not appear to indicate anything was wrong. In addition, on or about October 25, 2014, another Trailblazer (same area) also burnt up (as reported by bureau of land management).

I was at work and my door power switch started smoking and was on fire and I would also like to know where and how I can get it fixed.

Once the vehicle is parked the key will not turn off the run postion, resulting in the vehicle not turning off completely and the key can not be released. Ignition switch will not operate correctly. Sometimes after letting the vehicle sit for awhile the key will then be allowed to turn off and release. Possible faulty ignition switch??.

Transmission / sun shield failure: leaving work, I pulled out of the parking lot onto a major road. I accelerated to approximately 35-40 mph and heard a tremendous loud noise underneath my car and the car started to decelerate on it's own. I immediately thought I ran over something made of steel that was in the roadway, but there was nothing there. I was barely able to pull off the road because, although the car was running, the car would not move forward. I called a mechanic friend who advised me that 2 of the 4 gears are working. It is a transmission problem. After researching online I see that there is a sun shield / sun shell problem with these Trailblazers (and envoys, etc) and I really think this issue should be investigated for a recall. If I had been on a major highway, I am afraid of what would have happened to me.

The coolant line that supplies the rear cooling and heating unit developed a leak. After having the SUV checked out found that he supply line was rubbing against the SUV body and frame. Line was not put in properly. Patched line with rubber hose to stop leak and to protect from any more rubbing against frame.

First incident: (23 August 2013) driving to stop at stop sign at approximately 15mph , vehicle turned off without any warning lights. Second incident: (26 August 2013) driving on highway going close to 65 mph, once again vehicle turned off without any warning lights. Had to turn hazards off and coast to safe zone while cars were passing me going 65-80mph. Third incident: (28 August 2013) driving close to 50 mph, once again vehicle shut off without any warning lights. Once again had to coast to the median and hope not to get in a car wreck. All 3 of these incidents happened with my 2 year old daughter in the vehicle. I have also done research through various forums and websites. It happens without any warning at all and from what I have read there is only a temporary fix by changing the ignition switch but months later it comes back. The only thing that you can do (from my knowledge) is let it sit for an hour or 2 and then it starts up fine, but when your driving at 70 mph the last thing you want is for your vehicle to completely shut off on the highway. There are thousands of people in the exact same situation as me hoping the next time they get into their vehicle they wont be in an accident. Thank you for your consideration.

Engine light on indicated vapor collection box under car not working properly,and/or needing tune up. Performed tune-up, engine light still on. , this, according to my licensed mechanic is a defective design construction problem. That having the box fogged for leaks and subsequent repair or replacement results in multiple situations of the light always coming back on. 2. The master switch on the drivers door went out, during the rainy season and needed to be replaced. I later found out that this was a recall item, but gm, chev, and/their dealerships refuse to reimburse me for the part and even though I took it to a dealership, they did not spray the one I had installed, was not interested in relacing the orig defective unit with the new engineered part, were rude, obnoxtious and non professional to my husband, which now has me livid. We received a phone call from a local dealership, never any mail prior to repairing, when asked about the check engine light (under another recall too, for fuel level sensor, the dealership is charging $60. 00 to check it out. Is gm and or Chevrolet finding it necessary to drum up repair costs from the consumer to themselves. This is just a little more or less like scamming.

My husband and I were traveling home from a weekend out of state. We were coming into chicago traveling towards wisconsin where we live. Just before the first toll booth on i80/i94 traveling at highway speeds, we hit a slight bump in the road and lost all power to the car. We managed to coast the car over from the far left lane of a 5 lane highway to the right shoulder of the road out of harms way. The car was towed to a firestone dealership on a Sunday afternoon; we were told after a systems analysis was completed that the car would have to be towed to a gm dealership. The closest was in homewood, IL. After gm fixed the car, I asked what would cause something like this to happen. I was told by the dealership, it is something that just happens. Knowing the gravity of what could have happened, this is very upsetting. I really believe the Trailblazer should be also noted on the gm recall of autos before another family has to experience what mine did or worse. Thank you.

My car got on fire yestday from the covler comparment inside the passenger side! I want to know if my car is on recall please help me thank you.

Daughter was driving in city traffic in orlando (disney world college intern) and notice smoke and then fire coming from passenger side, under the dash. Car was in motion, she tried to stop the vehicle and exit, had trouble geting car to stop, and the door would not open becuase the vehicle was not in park. Fire rapidly spread throughout the cabin. She had to put her hand into the fire to get to the shifter, and then hurt her knee when she left the vehicle becuase it was still moving. The entire interior was totally consumed, all windows are gone, all seats are burnt to the frames, and it appears that the fire department took out the front grill to get to the engine compartment. Unknown cuase of fire at this time, vehicle is a total loss, and is now in a tow lot. We will never see the vehicle again since we live in nebraska. Thanfully my daughter made it out alive with possible knee injury only.

Hello, I received a safety recall letter dated October 2012 for recall number 12180 and have not heard anything since then. I am very concerned for my safety as well as others. How do I go about getting this taken care of? thank you, jessica.

I bought my Trailblazer (which I love) in the spring of 2012. A few months after purchasing the vehicle I came to learn that the horn no longer worked. I know the horn worked when I purchased the car because I checked it. I brought it in to a well renowned repair shop and they told me that their findings after looking it up was that there is a slight glitch with the horn and that, like other forms had stated, the more you use it the better chance of getting it to work. The mechanic said that he was reading that other people were having the same problem and that the horns on these Trailblazers needed to be massaged a little in the corner and the would work again. He said they got it working. I have yet to be able to get any noise out of my horn at all. This concerns me because of the safety issues that can arise with the lack of a horn to get someone elses attention if need be.

On 07/08/2011 mileage 50035 transmission cooling line rusted and leaked spraying transmission fluid onto exhaust manifold. Line was replaced with factory gm line. Today 09/25/2015 current mileage 80292 miles replacement line rusted in same place and leaked, spraying transmission fluid onto exhaust manifold.

My 2006 Trailblazer was parked outside next to my home for 2 hours. It spontaneously caught on fire while I was inside asleep. It ended up burning my whole house down. When I woke up to see flames coming from the car into my house, I called 911 and got myself and my children out of the house. My car and house were a total loss. I recently heard of recall saying don't park your 2006 Trailblazer near your house. . . Even when off it might catch on fire. I am wondering if this recall is what made my car catch on fire. The exact cause was not determined. . . It was just determined it was spontaneous . I wish I had known of recall in 2010, and we wouldn't have gone through this nightmare!.

I am currently experiencing for the second time a power steering hose issue and after researching, I see that there was a recall for 2006 chevy Trailblazers with this issue, however my VIN number is not listed. Will my vehicle be able to be covered under this recall too?.

The fuel gage stays on empty with light on all the time and have heard this is a big problem with this vehicle. Have to fill up SUV, set tuip mileage to 0. 0 and fill up around 225miles driven since this costs a lot to fix. Another problem that is happening a lot to this vehilcle is prpblems with the blower not working because the resistor and harness burn out.

I just want to get some information out there on my experience: battery replacement seem ways too often 8/2008, 10/2010, 9/2013 - and there is no notice until you cannot start it one day. First thing to go was the idle pulley. I have had the water pump/thermostat/belts replaced multiple times 50k, 60k, 87k. Headlights and tail lights replaced at least 3 times each. I have had to clean the throttle block plate multiple times or the tb will stall when the brake is applied or heat/ac on. I have come to find out that there are many non-oem parts which I never replaced (I purchased used w/17k miles) and nothing showed up on car fax or other reports about accidents or repairs. I had the gas guage/tank/float repaired while it was under warranty still and then a year later it broke again, and I am still riding with it broken (at least the last 5 years), which of course keeps my check engine light on nearly all the time. I just located the notice that gm is now doing 100% of the repair and I will be making an appointment to get it fixed as I will not pass inspection and I never know how much gas I have. I fill every 200 miles. There are other minor issues such as interior lights going out, both of the front seats have detached from the side molding (only 1 little screw holds them in), the rear washer has not worked in about 6 years. I also have loud noises coming out of the tires/wheels and no one can determine an exact cause, but it's not the brakes or rotors or anything like that. I currently have under 89k miles. I am waiting for the door electrical system to go next as that seems like what is next on the list of tb issues.

The back hatch does not open in during the winter. The button on the outside of the back hatch to push in gets stuck and the hatch will not unlock. This happens many of times during the winter months. I have been complaining to my dealer about this and they claim its noting wrong. Once the button sticks on the back of the hatch it will not release the hatch to open.
