24 problems related to tank mounting have been reported for the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Fuel gauge warning light did not come on and fuel gauge remained on empty even after filling the gas tank up. I now have to guess as to my fuel amount and fill up every 300 miles to be safe so as to not run out of gas with my 6 month old son in the car. The cost estimate for replacing this component is over $800 which I do not have. I believe that with so few miles and such a common complaint, gm should issue a recall so no one runs out of gas on the interstate and gets rear ended.
Gas gauge malfunctioning. Will not register amount of fuel in tank. It will go up and then down to empty and the low fuel light will come on even when I know it is full.
The gas gauge on my 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer began to show an empty tank when I filled up, after driving about 50 miles the gauge would properly show the amount of gas I had in the tank until the next fill up. The problem has gotten worse and I have read that other Trailblazer owners are having the same problem. The defect seems to be common, expensive to repair, and should be the responsibility of Chevrolet.
The fuel sensor in my 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer has been spuriously failing. It does not accurately represent the amount of fuel that is in my tank. Sometime it will say that my tank is full when I know that it is not, and sometimes it will say that my tank is empty immediately after filling it. My car has 65,000 miles on it.
Fuel gauge showed I was empty after filling up the car. The gauge now reads eratically and does not show the proper amount of fuel in the tank. My wife is the primary driver of this car and I fear that she will run out of gas due to the "failure" of the gauge. We are doing our best to drive by mileage but our mpg varies quite a bit depending on our driving situation. Just received a letter from gm advising they will pay 50% of repair costs. However, I feel that this safety related item failure should be covered entirely by gm via a recall. Anything you can do to help would be appreciated. Thanks gbly.
After filling up tank, tank registers empty, and check engine light on, after restarts able to measure gas amount, within weeks, no longer measure fuel amounts, check engine light comes and go, fuel guaze sometimes in the middle of a drive will suddently appear to measure amount of fuel and just as suddenly return to low fuel reading and empty on guage.
The gas gauge reads empty when gas is present. Continues to beep indicating the low fuel. When you first turn engine on it will register an amount of gas then fall to trigger the low fuel light. You are never sure how much gas is in the fuel tank.
Fuel gage not working when car is full of gas- until recently it worked well. A few fill-ups ago, the gauge would go up and up, but when completely full it went back to empty and lighted the check engine light. According to internet there are several thousand cases with same problem and same model year, NHTSA has almost 700 cases for this problem. This is dangerous as I can run out of gas if I loose count of the miles per tank. Hopefully if it happens it wont be in an intersection.
Although I had 1/4 tank of gas, I decided to fill my tank. When I started my car, the gas gauge showed that the tank was empty and the chime indicating that the tank is empty went off. I knew that the tank was not empty since I still had a 1/4 of tank before filling up. After driving the car a few days, the gauge eventually showed the correct amount. Now every time I fill the tank, the gauge shows empty and the chime goes off. I have to check the mileage constantly so I won't run out of gas. Now after a few days, the gauge will at one time show full and then a few minutes later show 1/4. The gauge is all over the place. When I notice that the mileage is getting close to what a full tank would take me, I have to make sure that I fill the tank completely so that I don't run the chance of running out gas.
I have a 2006 chevy Trailblazer ext with a fuel sending gauge problem. When I fill the tank, the guage indicates a full tank but the "needle" stays locked on full until I've driven approximately 50 miles - then the needle shows the fuel level at about 3/4 of a tank. Further driving makes the needle fluctuate wildly until sometime in the next 50/100 miles the needle falls to the empty mark and stays there. Recently there has been a new development: the needle never moves off the empty mark when I fill up and today, after filling up yesterday, the needle sits on the empty mark with the low fuel light on. I have resorted to bringing a gas can with me and using the odometer to "guesstimate" the amount of fuel I have left. Not always the best solution.
The gas gauge first started by reading the wrong amount of fuel, then only after running for about 10 minutes would it read the correct amount of fuel. The about 15 days after initial issue it started to show only the correct amount of fuel when it was started up then it would go to empty, even if the tank was filled up. Now it currently does not move and the "low fuel level" shows up every time you start the car. After doing much research on this I realized there were other peopel who were having the exact same problem.
Upon restart after filling fuel tank, fuel gauge drops to empty, and low fuel level warning indicator and audible warning are triggered. Occasionally while driving in this condition, cel will be activated, which when read shows fuel level sensor failure. Gauge will gradually float towards full, but will randomly go back to empty, reactivating the warning light and audible alarm. Once a significant amount of fuel has been consumed, the needle will begin acting as if it is working, although it is not entirely accurate, however the light and alarm will no reactivate until the next fill up. This occurs at every fill up. Due to the restrictive costs involved, this has not yet been corrected. Symptoms first noted late fall of 2010.
The issues started about a month ago when I had two unexpected stalls due to empty fuel tank. The needle was indicating that fuel was still available, though near empty. Then finally the mystery was solved on November 15 when the fuel level sender finally failed. I filled the tank normally but when I started the vehicle, the needle stayed at empty, low fuel light came on and low was displayed in the range speedo display. After a quick search, I realized the source of all my problems. Another faulty Trailblazer fuel level sender. I purchased the part from my local dealership and replaced my part (no need to replace the entire pump assembly). However at close inspection, I see that gm has changed the design of the metal "wipers" the slide along the resistor segments on the sender. Clearly they realized at some point that the design needed improvement. The new sender's wipers are fewer in number, but are wider and appear to made from slightly thicker metal. All considered, the new design is more robust and I anticipate longer life. Unfortunately, as I read all the complaints, we all share the same issue and have paid various amounts to get the issue resolved. I am fortunate that it only cost me the part and one entire evening. Others are not so lucky, they pay whatever the dealership needs to fix the faulty part. This is clearly widespread, early life failure and should be addressed by gm with compensation for a faulty and now improved design.
The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer. While adding gasoline to the fuel tank the contact noticed that the fuel gauge would not indicate the correct amount of gasoline. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where the contact was informed that the fuel sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 44000 and the current mileage was 45000.
Fuel gauge does not register correct amount of fuel in tank, and at times blows fuel gauge fuse.
2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer fuel gauge not working properly, while driving the needle from the fuel gauge drops to empty and slowly returns back show the correct amount fuel in the vehicle. Read online that this is a common problem with the Trailblazers and cost is about $500. 00 for repairs, sensor in the fuel tank needs replaced unable to take vehicle on any trips and have to keep an eye on how much fuel is in the tank by checking the trip odometer.
Bought 2006 chevy Trailblazer ext used from the dealer in 2009 for commute to and from work. Upon reaching 63,000 miles began to have problems with fuel gauge reading half full them empty even after just having filled up the tank at the station. As a result check engine light activated and when it came time to inspect the vehicle no one at the local dealerships were willing to drop the gas tank and fix the problem so I could pass inspection. Penna state emissions would not pass the vehicle until the fuel system was repaired, hence cannot pass inspection. I will no longer use the vehicle on long trips where I have to guess how much gas I have in the tank, or take it on busy highways like 95 or 83 near washington close to where I live. Problem description seems to be consisent with this model year. While I was willing and able to pay for my repair the first time, it is not my responsibility to account for a shoddy product. Gm has already attempted to contact me and cover 50% of the repair via mail. This is an insult to my intelligence and I should not have to fork over one red cent to get this fixed given the massive amount of complaints about the same problem on the same vehicle. Ignition switch also failed at 60,000 miles. Yet another item I am finding is a recurring problem with this model, make and year.
Fuel level sensor does not show correct fuel level in fuel tank. My 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer LS with 6 cyl. Engine only has 35,000 miles on it. Fuel gauge does not register the amount of gas in tank even when tank is full. This is a serious problem and could become a deadly situation if someone ran out of gas on the highway. Gm needs to correct this problem ASAP. I have found over 200 complaints about this exact same problem with Trailblazers, yukons, and various other gm vehicles. Please visit this web site to see for yourself. Gm needs to correct this problem before someone gets seriously hurt or is killed. . Read more...
Fuel gauge does not work properly. It does not accurately indicate amount of gas in tank and fluctuates. Low fuel light comes on even when there is gas in the tank.
Fuel gauge does not display amount of fuel in tank. Even when filling the tank with fuel, the gauge remains on empty.
2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The gas gauge has stopped working completely. This is a safety hazard because it is impossible to know how much gas is left in the gas tank. This is a danger as I could run out of gas while driving. Although I can use the odometr to "guess" about gas, it is not a definite measure of the amount of gasoline I have left. I know that this has been an issue with other Chevrolet suvs and trucks. I checked on fixing the problem but because the entire gas tank has to be pulled from the vehicle, it will cost approximately $800 to fix the problem. Because this appears to be a reoccuring problem with Chevrolet and GMC suvs and trucks, I believe that this is an issue that should be addressed by Chevrolet and GMC.
The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer. After filling up the vehicle with fuel, the contact noticed that the fuel gauge failed and displayed that the tank was empty. The "low fuel" and check engine indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. Due to the failure, the contact must always write down the amount of gas he purchases in order to estimate when the vehicle needs to be refueled. The dealer stated that the fuel gauge sensor failed and would cost $400 to repair. The vehicle has not been repaired or inspected by a technician. The manufacturer stated that the failure was not covered under warranty; therefore, no compensation would be provided. The failure mileage was 48,000 and current mileage was 49,600.
I ran out of gas on expressway on way home from work while gauge showed 1/4 tank. This happened again months later with tank showing just under 1/4 tank. Gauge around the time of first incident started bouncing around off and on at any reading while SUV was running. It would go from empty to 1/2 a tank and bounce around back and forth eventually stopping at a random amount. The gauge would go to empty when it was full until it was driven enough that I was down to around 3/4 of a tank then it would give the correct reading until guessing around 1/4 of a tank when the incidents happened with me running out of gas. A few months later the gauge completely quit working and has yet to work since then. I started researching online about the gauge and found multiple incidents with same year and make and many people stating they paid over $700 to have repairs done and multiple people stating they had it fail again. Since reading those remarks I have yet to have it repaired and have had to keep track of my mileage so that I don't run out of fuel again.
I own a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer ext and the fuel gauge never registers the correct amount of fuel. It always fluctuates between empty and 3/4 full even after filling the tank completely. I have had this problem for at least one month now and the repairs will be at least $500. 00 to complete. The problem is still occurring as I can not afford to replace the part at this time and hopefully no further problems will emerge in the meantime. I have been researching the problem over the internet to determine if others are having similar problems. This appears to be a trend that has been ongoing for a few years now. This would be a huge courtesy if the manufacturer would do a recall for this fuel sensor problem and avoid legal action as well as to continue upholding a great american legacy such that Chevrolet has built.
