191 problems related to tank assembly have been reported for the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2013

For months I have been having issues with my vehicle. It was taken in to Chevrolet for a recall repair and now it seems to have all sorts of problems! my fuel gauge in the tank is no longer working, my a/c was working one day but not the next, the check engine light turns on and off, it's dumping fuel, the thermostat had to be replaced. . . When do the problems end? now come to find out after having my blower motor replaced the connector for the electrical has had a little bit of melting issue which potentially could have caught fire!!! of course general motors wants and arm and a leg to replace it!!!! I don't think I will ever buy another chevy again, this is ridiculous! if it had caught fire which I am sure if people can't afford or don't get their vehicles properly checked there will be one that happens to, it could kill someone! seems like a liability waiting to happen!.

2 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2012

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that the fuel gauge was defective and would read empty when the fuel tank was full. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 88,000.

3 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/30/2012

Gas gauge fluctuates, filled gas tank, moments later it went down to empty (warning light and sound went off). This has happened for the past week. Prior to this the check engine would sporadically go off and on, probably an early indicator that there was a problem with the fuel gauge.

4 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2012

I just purchased a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer approximately a month ago. I have noticed that my fuel gauge tends to go ballistic when it wants and where it wants. It's like my truck can not decide if there is gas in the tank or not. I find this to be a major safety hazard. All I can find online is gm is offering to pay half on selected models as long as they meet requirements. Ok the government bailed gm out, how come they can't be forced to correct the problem that their shoddy parts created?!?!? from what I've found, this is a very wide range problem. Considering I just purchased this vehicle, I don't have the money to even pay half for the repair. . . . . So what, I'm just stuck like chuck? at least Ford fixes their screw ups!.

5 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/07/2012

As many of the other complaints my 2006 Trailblazer is having a fuel tank sending unit problem, the fuel gauge will read empty then shoot up to half full, I was told that the repair will cost approx 600. To 700. 00 which I can't afford . I don't believe it's time to force gm to step up to the plate and issue a recall seeing that so many others are having the same problem.

6 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/21/2012

Fuel gauge reads empty and low fuel light illuminated after filling gas tank, fuel gauge rises and falls intermittently.

7 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2012

I have several times now been driving with 1/4 tank of gas and run out of fuel. Now today I fill the tank and the gas gauge reads empty with the light on. I just put in 22 gallons so I know it is not empty. I have heard of this problem many times online and there needs to be a recall, this occurs through no fault of owner.

8 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2012

Gas gauge stopped working for no apparent reason. Needle jumps from full to empty to half, etc. While driving. Unable to gauge how much gas is in the tank.

9 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/29/2011

Fuel gauge stop working and out of fuel light stays on even with a full tank of fuel.

10 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/04/2011

Got full tank of gas. Fuel gauge drops to empty. Appears to fix self then drops to empty more. Fuel gauge completely unreliable. Have to use trip meter now to judge gas level. Dangerous if I run out of gas in heavy traffic.

11 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/26/2011

Filled fuel tank full, and started to drive away. Fuel gauge suddenly dropped to empty and low fuel light came on. Moments later, fuel gauge returned to a full reading, and low fuel light went off. Moments later while driving, fuel gauge again dropped to empty and low fuel light again came on. Check engine light also then came on and has stayed on. Now fuel gauge intermittently drops to empty and low fuel light comes on, then gauge returns to full reading. Check engine light stays on. Dangerous potential to run out of fuel as have no idea as to actual gas in tank. Understand that this has been a common problem on this and similar gm vehicles.

12 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/17/2011

Fuel guage inoperable, fuel gauge indicates empty at all times. Even after a fill-up of the gas tank.

13 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2011

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact was driving 40 mph when the vehicle ran out of fuel. The fuel gauge was reading a quarter tank of fuel yet the empty light was illuminated. The contact did not take the vehicle to a dealer nor was the manufacturer made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000.

14 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2011

Fuel sensor failure, does not read true fuel tank level. Generally when full reads empty then as tank decreases gauge may read correct.

15 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2011

Driving down the road at 65 mph fuel gauge drops from 3/8 full to zero. Other gauges such as oil pressure, coolant temperatures also drops to zero. Also several warning lights such as check engine and anti lock break turn on. I stopped the car shut off the engine and it would not start again. After adding 2 gallons of gas it started again but when I took it to gas station I could only add about 11 gallons into a 24 gallon tank. So I believe the reading at 3/8 full was correct before it went to zero. The same situation occurred again when we had 3/4 tank full, this time our family was stranded out of town.

16 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2011

Four days ago, while driving I noticed the fuel gage light was on and the needle was on empty. There was 3/4 tank of gas in the vehicle. Then the needle proceeded to slowly rise to half full, and go down and up sporadically. Since then it continues to fluctuate up and down. Even after filling the gas tank a day ago, the needle still sporadically fluctuates between empty and full. The vehicle has 49000 miles on it.

17 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/20/2011

I own a 2006 chevy Trailblazer. My fuel gauge sensor is going out. I just filled my tank and it tells me it is empty. I am told Chevrolet will pay half the costs but it will still cost me $200. I have had more problems with this vehicle than any I have previously owned. If this is such a well known problem with these vehicles why has there not been a recall?.

18 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2011

The fuel gauge in my 2006 Trailblazer stopped working. Even after filling up the gas tank, it reads that it's on empty, the low fuel light comes on and there is a low fuel level message. This has been going on for several months; it started out with the needle bouncing around the gauge but now it just sits on empty. I am taking it in for repair because I don't feel safe not knowing how much gas I truly ever have.

19 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2011

Gas gauge just stopped working all of the sudden. Even after I fill the tank all the way up, the gas gauge is unresponsive. It reads as empty and the warning sign/beeps continue throughout my drive. I haven't called chevy yet because I wanted to look online to see the estimated cost and possible causes. Much to my surprise, there are about a million other chevy customers with the same issue. Is there a reason a recall hasn't been issued yet? I read chevy doesn't consider this a "safety" issue therefore no recall has been extended. Are you kidding me? I would think your car dying in the middle of the desert and being stranded in the middle of nowhere would be a safety issue. Or your car dying on the highway at 75mph. . Again pretty serious situation. How about if I'm driving through an intersection and my car dies because I have no clue how much gas I have. Then I get t-boned and am at best in critical condition at the hospital. Am I the only one that thinks this is a very serious issue and needs to be recalled because it is in fact a safety issue. Is it not considered a safety issue until we have reported deaths because of it. I'm about to deploy to afghanistan and will unfortunately be leaving this issue for my wife to deal with. I pray that nothing happens to her or my 3 year old daughter because someone wasn't man enough to admit they were at fault and issue a recall to fix a problem so many consumers are having. I will never buy another vehicle from Chevrolet or gm for that. So disappointed.

20 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/07/2011

I filled my gas tank. When I restared the car the gas gauge no longer works. It has been this way for two weeks. I have been setting a trip mileage gauge to insure that I do not run out of gas. I received a notice a while back from Chevrolet stating that this is a problem. They do not accept responsibility in the form of a recall, but will discount the repairs. I threw way the notice as I did not have any problems. I have yet to contact my Chevrolet dealer, as I am considering my options.

21 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/07/2011

The fuel gauge no longer provides an accurate reading. Vehicle stalled due to empty gas tank with gas gauge showing 1/2 tank. Occurred at 48,000 miles. The gas gauge can no longer be relied upon creating an extremely dangerous driving situation should fuel run out and a stall occur.

22 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/06/2011

I was running low of fuel so I stopped at a gas station to refill. After completely filling the tank and starting the vehicle, the fuel gauge needle was on empty and the low fuel level light was lit. Since then, the fuel gauge fluctuates and does not display the actual fuel level. I have been relying on the trip odometer to estimate my fuel usage so that I do not run out of gas. About a month prior to this issue affecting me, I had received a letter from general motors describing this issue a offering to cover 50% of the repair cost. Obviously, this issue is affecting a great number of vehicles and the manufacturer should step up and fix their problem.

23 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2011

The gas gauge does not work and is a safety concern. The first time this occurred was at the gas station after I filled up. Over the past 8 months it became worse and now it stays on empty even with a full tank. I purchased this car used from a BMW dealer just last July. I have researched online and have seen where this is a very common problem among chevy Trailblazers that may involve a fuel sensor.

24 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2011

While driving our gas gauge went down to empty even though we had a full tank. This posed a safety hazard as we were then unable to determine how much gas we actually had. It seems the fuel gauge is faulty. This could lead to running out of gas while driving causeing a potential accident.

25 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/22/2011

The fuel gauge read 3/4 of a tank so we did not stop to get gas, thinking we had enough to get home. 3min later we ran out on the hwy with 4 children in the car 2 that are under the age of 2 .

26 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2011

After refueling vehicle, gas gauge goes to e, with low fuel warning light/buzzer going off. After travelling 30-40 miles, gas gauge goes to normal. Afterwards, gauge is erratic, and you have no idea how much fuel you really have left, without knowing your fuel mileage and how many miles you have driven on a tank of gas so far. Now gauge will go e, even with 1/4 tank of gas remaining.

27 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/23/2011

After filling up the gas tank, the gas gauge either stays at empty and the fuel level warning light comes on or the gauge starts jumping erratically from empty to full to anywhere in between.

28 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/22/2011

The fuel gauge reads empty when the tank is full. At first, it would level off after driving approximately 100 miles. The gauge then stayed at empty all of the time. My wife drives this vehicle on the highway and we're always concerned she will run out of gas in a very dangerous situation. Chevrolet customer assistance has offered to pay 50% of the repair cost of $700-800. I feel there should be a recall on the faulty fuel tank sensor that they admit needs to be replaced.

29 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/18/2011

Gas gauge reads empty at all times. Filled the tank up completely one day and the gauge read empty (even though it was still full)the following day. Gauge reads empty at all times now. Serious safety issue for my special needs child.

30 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2011

When refueling for gas, my gauge registered empy after the tank was completely full. It continued to fluctuate registering empty, half full, etc. This has caused the check engine light to come on every time the truck is refueled. The light can be turned off when you open and reclose the gas lid. This has to be done every time the truck is refueled in order to turn the light off. As a result you never know if there is something really wrong with the engine. I am unable to tell truly how much gas in the vehicle and I have to refuel every two to three days because of the distance I travel to and from work/ doctor's appt. Thank you.

31 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/11/2011

Fuel gauge registers empty even after filling the tank full. Have ran out of gas on the highway in the dead of winter. Very dangerous. The gas gauge goes all over the place and you never know how much gas you have in. Very frustrating. This should be a recall considering the number of chevy Trailblazers that it has happened to.

32 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2011

I have read thousand's of complaints about this online. I have a 2006 chevy Trailblazer that needs an immediate recall to get this situation fixed. Many 05-08 Trailblazers have a faulty fuel indicator gauge that gives false readings on how much fuel is in the vehicle. On my specific 2006 chev Trailblazer sits on empty after I completely fill the tank. It also moves around from empty, half full, almost full, then down to empty again while driving. Between my spouse and myself we have ran out of gas 4 times so far, once while on the freeway. This is a public safety hazard.

33 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2011

When driving, noticed that the fuel gage would be movingtoward the empty position. When I stop to refuel( gage read1/2 tank) ended up putting 20 gallons in it. Went to dealership, they said fuel gage sensor was bad. I had it replaced. The vehicle had 52,000 miles on it.

34 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/29/2011

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated the fuel sending unit failed. The fuel gauge displayed that the fuel tank was empty at all times even when the vehicle was full of fuel. The warning light constantly remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated the gm manufacturer would cover half of the repair cost which he was responsible for $136. The dealer replaced the fuel sending unit. The manufacturer was notified but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 84,566.

35 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2011

The fuel gauge in my 2006 chevy Trailblazer has been acting erratically. Within a few miles of filling up the gas tank the low fuel light comes on. Sometimes it will start working again and sometimes it wont. The service station scanned the check engine codes and it showed a bad fuel level sensor.
