The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer ext. When the contact pulled away from a stop sign and made a right turn, the driver's side door opened on its own. As a result, another vehicle almost struck the door. The contact could not close the door right away because he only has one arm; therefore, the door remained open for approximately 500 feet. The contact had to secure the door with a bungee cord. He took the vehicle to the dealer for a diagnostic and was charged $105. He was then informed that the repair would cost $600. Because he is on disability, he cannot afford to pay for the repairs. The failure affects 3 out of the 4 doors on the vehicle when making right turns. The front and rear driver side doors open and, when making left turns, the rear passenger door opens as well. The current mileage was 83,000 and failure mileage was 80,000. Updated 07/07/08. The dealer replaced the door actuators. Updated.

April 16, 2007 left rear door of 2002 chevy Trailblazer ext failed to latch. If child passenger had not noticed the door may have opened during driving. Vehicle was brought to local mechanic 2 blocks away to minimize drive time with unlatched door. Local mechanic found that the door latch was corroded and needed to be replaced. Cost approx $155. Owner subsequently discovered that this was the same problem that prompted safety recall 05077. Owner had brought the vehicle to Chevrolet dealer (depaula Chevrolet, albany NY) in July 2006 and minimal recall repair was done. According to the invoice dated 7/17/06 seals to both doors were installed. The invoice does not mention if door latches were cleaned and lubricated or that latches were replaced. It does not seem that the repair that was done was adequate to prevent corrosion which lead to ultimate failure of the latch. On April 19, 2007 3:00 pm owner showed depaula service manager the failed part. Manager said the dealer could do nothing and referred owner to gm and provided 800 number. April 19, 2007 4:00 pm owner called gm resulting in gm refusing to reimburse owner for repair because owner did not go to authorized dealer for repair. At the time of incident the owner did not know the failure was caused by damage related to recall. Owner did not feel it was safe to travel any significant distance, especially with a child passenger, which is why the vehicle was brought to a local mechanic. Owner explained that the dealer was 20 miles from where incident occurred and it would not have been safe to travel that far. Gm suggested that owner should have had the vehicle towed to dealer, but owner had no way of knowing that the faulty latch was a recall issue that needed to be repaired by a dealer. In addition to the repair cost the owner is concerned that the remaining door latch may also be compromised and fail, putting passengers in danger of injury. Photos of failed part are available.

In Aug. Of this year I was driving with my friend in the back seat when I made a turn the left rear door opened. I pulled over to close it , door would not latch. About one year ago same problem. Paid dealer to fix same latch. Oct 2005 gm recalled only ext. Versions of 2002 Trailblazer. I have a reg. Trailblazer. Door cannot be used because it will not latch closed.
Rear passenger doors will not open or will not latch closed.
: the contact stated the driver's side rear door opens while driving at any speed. An NHTSA recall, #05v494000 was performed on the vehicle concerning, the latches/locks/linkages: doors: latch however; the recall did not remedy the problem. The dealership only replaced the weather stripping along the two rear doors. The driver's side rear door still opens while driving at any speed. The dealership would not offer to replace the inoperable latch as indicated in the recall without charge. Updated 06/15/06.
Before I got the recall notice on my Trailblazer the problem with the car happened to me. My 3 year old grandson fell out the back door when it unlatched. No message appeared on the panel. My other grandson yelled to let me know that he had fallen out. Further action may be taken in this matter.
We rented a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer from alamo rental in cleveland ohio on July 7, 2005. On July 10 we parked the vehicle in a valet zone and my wife and I stepped outside the vehicle to remove our daughter. I turned off the vehicle but left the key in the ignition. When we closed our doors the doors automatically locked before we could open the door to remove our child. We were forced to call 911. When the officer could not unlock the vehicle and a follow up call to the locksmith revealed that they were still 30 minutes away we were forced to break the rear window to gain entry and remove our child. When we returned the vehicle the rental agent was aware of similar lockouts. We have owned both Toyota's and volkswagens that will automatically lock the 3 passenger doors but require the driver to manual lock the driver side door or to use the key fob while standing outside the vehicle. Consequently, we are furious that gm would install a system that could instantly endanger a child especially on a hot summer day.

I have a 2003 chevy trail blazer ext. I have had 4 recalls on this vehicle and was watching the local news and heard of the 5th. . . Rear glass hatch window opens when car is in motion even tells me so on my dash. Called gm to see if there was a recall sent out , tech said nothing listed . According to the news report this info came from gm . I feel this is a serious problem and would like to have it resolved.
The left rear door fails to latch close. The only way I found to keep the door closed is to operate the inside door release lever many (30-80 times) and try closing the door ever so often. It appears that the door fails to latch most often when it hasn't been used for a couple weeks. I have sprayed lubricating oil/solution into the latching mechanism several times. Each time the problem will go away for about a month and then it fails to latch again. I intend on bringing the vehicle to the dealership to see if they can do anything.
Passenger side door handle and lock failed to open or lock on their own. Consumer was able to drive the vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that the door handle and locks were a manufacturing design flaw, and the manufacturer was aware that this was a problem but has no solution. Mechanic replaced door handle and locks, but problem recurred.
All of a sudden the back doors would not open. Dealer said it had to be reset. Then when we finally opened the door, it would not latch . Consumer had to push it closed.
While driving, the consumer noticed the interior lights were on which indicated that the doors were ajar. The consumer pulled over to inspect the vehicle and noticed the rear driver door was ajar due to latch failure. The consumer was unable to close the door. (the latch failed and the door would not close).
Rear door fails to latch closed.
Problems with vehicle's door locks and window equipment. (nar).
The outside back door handles do not work properly. During the warranty period, I brought the car back to the dealership where we purchased it, a few times, and they tried to convince me that the child safety locks were engaged. If the child safety locks were engaged, we would not be able to open the doors from the inside. The problem we had then and continue to have is that the outside back door handles do not work. I used to think of it as a mere nuisance until recently. This is a safety issue. I strap young children, in their car seats, into the back seats of that car. In an emergency, they might not be able to be reached quickly unless my wife or I were there to say that the door handles don't always work and you must open the front doors and reach into the back to the inside door handles to open the doors. Chevrolet has maintained that they work properly. It's kind of ironic, we strap our kids in safety seats to keep them safe, but in an emergency, we might not be able to get to them because the door handles don't work. There is a safety problem here and Chevrolet needs to fix it.
2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer. Numerous problems associated with car. Windows don't come down, doors don't unlock, and other issues. The consumer stated when he turned the key in the ignition, the windows would not roll down, unless it was done manually. There was a locking and unlocking sound coming from the doors. The consumer was informed there was an issue with the wiring inside the doors. Also, the check engine light illuminated due to a small evap leak and after market fuel cap. The windshield wipers were inoperative, the instrument panel lights were flicking on and off, the inside dome light would not come on. Updated 04/13/15. Updated 07/20/15.
