8 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 10/28/2012

I came out to my vehicle today, unlocked the door with the keyless remote but the driver's door was unresponsive. Upon starting the vehicle I realized the windows don't work on the driver's side as well. I removed the driver door control module to find a burn mark internally on the door as well as burnt plastic on the door module itself. The window and lock worked fine the night before so I'm concerned with the short circuit occurring over night without a key in the ignition.

A passenger leaned over to unlock the driver door and hit the driver window down switch. The key was not in the ignition. A burning smell was noticed and the driver door was completely dead. We were able to open the door and drive the vehicle. When I returned home I popped out the driver door module and noticed that the plastic case was melted. I opened the unit and noticed that a wiring harness connecting the 2 printed circuit boards was completely burned. Luckily this did not cause a major fire.

12 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 07/07/2012

Vehicle was parked with all doors locked and the vehicle not running. The remote unlock button was engaged and all doors unlocked with the exception of the driver door. The remote unlock was engaged 3 to 4 more times. The door was manually unlocked from passenger's side. When the door was opened, smoke was pouring out of the inside. We poured available liquids down the window slot but smoke was still pouring out. While my spouse went inside the business where we were parked to grab a pitcher of water, I jerked the plastic oval piece around the inside door handle off and saw flames. He returned with the pitcher and we poured the water down the open hole at the door handle and finally managed to extinguish the flames. We drove the vehicle home but none of the door functions worked at all. It is going to cost me approximately $600 to fix this issue. I have been afraid to drive my Trailblazer since that time. Also the fuel gauge quit working about 3 months ago. We finally fixed that issue today. The next issue to repair after the door is the heat/air actuator as the air conditioning no longer comes thru my air conditioning vents. . . Updated 08-27-12 the consumer also stated the fuel gauge stopped working. Updated 08/28/12.

13 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 03/12/2012

The driver's door window and door lock has been working intermittently over the last 1 1/2 yrs. This last March, the window stopped working . Then the door lock followed and then the entire door. I have no control over any aspect of the car with that door. I makes a buzz-zapping sound. I cannot lock the windows at all in the back, so now my young children play with the windows and hang out them. The doors are supposed to lock when the truck is put into gear, but that does not always happen. Sometimes it will happen 10 minutes into a trip , sometimes not at all. In the last month the front passenger side window stopped working also. My sons are now complaining of hearing a buzz, click, click, click, sound coming from the back doors. I assume it is the vehicle attempting to lock the doors since we are driving but it is unable to. The driver side mirror also has a mind of its own due to the malfunction of the electrical or the door. It will change its positioning all by itself . I always have to readjust it manually just to find it pointing at the ground later on. I took it to my Chevrolet dealer and was told my vehicle is not included in the recall because of where I purchased it and where I limy live. This is a safety issue apart from the obvious electrical zapping that can be heard, but it is also for children when the vehicle is in motion. I am unemployed and it is going to cost over $150 for them to look at it, and he said there is no recall so to fix it, I will have to pay. There is constant exposure to salt air here in florida. My kids lives are at stake. I do not care where I live, this is there safety. What if they open the window and get hurt because I cannot lock the window because of problems with my car door. The recall needs to be nation wide and it needs to resolved before someone get hurts.

16 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 03/12/2011

I read in the manual for my 05 Trailblazer that I bought 3 days ago that the drivers side door wouldnt be able to lock if the keys were in the ignition. Today I was making a trip to my storage unit and decided to leave the car running since my 4 month old son was inside and it was a warm day. My doors automatically unlock when I put it into park, and I got out, walked around the car to open my sons door so I could hear him. The doors were all locked! I dont know how they locked themselves, but not even the drivers door that isnt supposed to be able to lock with the keys in the ignition, was open! so my cell phone and infant were both locked in my car with it running and my baby crying. I had to sit there and watch him cry through the window, because I was stupid enough to believe the manual when it said the doors couldnt lock. Thankfully my dad lives close by and I was able to borrow a cell phone and have him go and get the keys from my husband at work. Had the car been off he could have been extremely hot by the time I got the doors unlocked and got him out.

22 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 08/11/2009

I have a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer lt model. The rear hatch latch fails to lock or unlock due to corrosion. I found online that there is a recall covering certain GMC vehicles. The site I found listed the 2003 Chevrolet vehicle as part of this recall. The campaign # is 05v494000 and the gm recall # is 05v494000. The recall stated the following:certain sport utility vehicles have a rear side closure latch that may not latch or unlatch due to corrosion caused by road splash, such as water and road salt. These vehicles were originally sold in or currently registered in the following states: connecticut, delaware, illinois, indiana, iowa, maine, maryland, massachusetts, michigan, minnesota, missouri, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, west virginia, wisconsin, and the district of columbia. Consequence summary: if the door is not latched properly and it goes unnoticed, it may open while the vehicle is in motion. If an unbelted occupant fell out of the vehicle, personal injuries could occur. Recall notes: gm recall no. 05077. I contacted Chevrolet 1-800-630-2438. I spoke with a representative there and gave him all my information. He informed me that he could not find any recalls on my vehicle. I gave him the campaign # listed on the website and he looked it up and found the recall and said that maine was not a state involved in the recall. I informed him that the recall I was viewing on line clearly listed maine as a covered state. He then said he noticed it. I gave him the gm recall # and he said that the recall only covers GMC envoy and Chevrolet Trailblazer ext models. It clearly is the same problem. I checked and the latch is corroded due to salt and water. My complaint is that this is the same safety issue as the other vehicles and should be covered on this recall. The only difference is the trim its lt as opposed to the ext.

Raised rear lightgate heard a crunching sound. On inspection the plastic piece on the top of the lightgate was cracked & lifted up. It was a fairly warm day & I had washed the truck early in the day & it sat in the sun all day. Ice build up was not a possibility. Took the truck in for repair of this piece, bodyshop states that there are 2 bushings missing from the hinges where the rear glass pivots on the hinges. Dealer parts dept. 28 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 09/18/2008

I own a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer ext. The glass portion of the tailgate became unglued from the hinge. This did not allow the glass portion to latch properly. The dealership/body shop said they had never seen that happen. In all the opening to investigate the problem, the support bar for the glass failed and the entire liftgate cover was loose. My thoughts are the cover was the start of the hinge coming unglued as the body shop said that they have had cases where the cover comes flying off. This would place stress on the hinge/glue and cause a failure. The body shop said they could not repair. It would cast $1000+ for a new glass and $650+ for a used glass. I took it to a private body shop and they reglued the glass and hinge but were unable to secure the liftgate cover without screwing it in place. The fix lasted for about a week and then when I went to lift the tailgate (entire tailgate, not glass), it bound up on the top and only ones 1/2 way. Finally, the tailgate latch malfunctioned and would not latch when trying to close the tailgate. Upon repair, the latch mechanism had disintegrated and the rubber coating was all torn apart, causing the latch mechanism to jam.

29 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 07/10/2008

Three of the four door latching mechanisms had to be replaced in this truck. The doors would look like they closed but they would open as you turned a corner. This occurred twice when I had my kids in the truck, first on the passenger left side then a few months later the passenger right side. I am glad gm didn't screw up the seal belts too. This is dangerous.
