On numerous occasions the seat belt on my 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer ext. Has malfunctioned, I. E. It does not come out, and therefore will force me to drive without a seat belt. I have visited the dealership on numerous occasions to have them correct the problem, everytime I travel to the dealership seems to be the time that it starts to work again. Gm's policy is that "if they do not see the problem when it occurs, that there is no problem"
I believe this to be a major safety concern, being unable to buckle my seatbelt on occasion, and not to mention illegal to drive without a seatbelt in the state of florida, in talking with several other Trailblazer owners, they have experienced the same, I am very concerned about this, and do not know what else to do?.

2005 rental trail blazer from enterprise on 11/1/2005 failed to lock the seat belt properly to hold me back from hitting the steering wheel. I know this was also a problem on the 2002 trail blazers and some other suvs. Gm was to send out an investigator to look at it, but because they waited too long, enterprise put the SUV back on the road. I am not sure if they fixed the seat belt or not. I can not get information from them. Gm says my injury is not compensated because the vehicle is not in the exact shape now as it was when I drove it. My medical bills and injury is not important to gm, I talked to sean kelly at esis who handles these kind of claims for gm and he told me it was my responsiblity to find out if the SUV I had was fixed or not. That is not right, and I think there are a lot of other vehicles out there with defects on the seat belts, but until you have to hit the brakes very hard and fast to avoid an accident that is when the seat belt does not work properly.

Vehicle: 2003 chevy Trailblazer ssue: driverside seatbelt will inadvertently lock up when trying to buckle. When entering the vehicle, and reaching for the seatbelt, trying to pull the buckle over chest and buckle. The retractor (on occasion) will lock up, and not permit the webbing to move any further. This will occur for about 20 sec. Until the retractor loosens up, allowing the webbing to move. This vehicle has been in for service four times in the past year. Twice the retractor was replaced. Problem still persists.

Passenger's seat belt would continue to tighten on occupant while driving. Dealer contacted. Feel free to provide any further information.
The passenger seat belt retractor is designed to lock and not release if the shoulder belt is pulled all the way out. This creates a saftey hazard. If the passenger has to reach for something that casuses the shoulder belt to extend completly, you then have to unbuckle the seat belt, retract it, then rebuckle the belt. If this occurs while the car is in motion, the passenger is open to injury should an impact occur at the time the belt is unbuckled. If the belt is not unbuckled to release the retractor, it is extrememly uncomfortable to sit in the seat as the belt will prevent any forward movement. I believe this to be a flaw in the design of the seat belt and not a feature as general motors describes it. This occurs on any gm seat where the belt is integrated with the seat rather than mounted to the framework of the car.
