1 Steering Rack And Pinion problem

Failure Date: 02/08/2018

Losing power steering fluid at the rack and pinion , had to have it replaced. This is a common problem with the Traverse and Buick enclave. I think gm should repair or pay for repair of this problem.

2 Steering Rack And Pinion problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2017

I purchase the brand new chevy Traverse in Aug 2011, about 2 years ago I was making a u-turn and the vehicle stuck on the road and would not turn, called the dealer and they said turn off the car and re start in 2 minutes. I had around 20,000 miles at time. Currently I have about 27k miles and 6 months ago I mention that we have some noise coming out when we turn the steering, dealer checked during my oil change visit and said its all normal. The noise was getting worst so took the car again at 25k miles and they checked in detail and said rack and pinion is gone bad, I was shocked that at 25k miles how this can be possible? they said its vehicle and anything can happen, they charging me $1861. 00 to replace as it is not in warranty. This is ridiculous that at 25k-27k miles, gm measure component break downs and there is no recall, I feel me and my family in danger on the road driving the unsafe vehicle from gm/chevy.

5 Steering Rack And Pinion problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2015

Took vehicle in for oil change at harold Chevrolet dealer in angola, indiana in July 2015. Was told that the "power steering box" was leaking and given a price quote of over $1800 for parts and labor to fix. Was also told that multiple owners are having this issue but gm is doing nothing. Took it to local shop who replaced rack and pinions, plus alignment costing $1025. During research online, hundreds of 2009-2011 Traverse owners are having this issue. As of November 15, 2015 it became hard to turn wheel randomly at low speeds unless applying acceleration. Appears it may be the pump that they issued a "concern" for. I feel the whole power steering system needs replaced, at gm's expense. This is a serious safety hazard for myself, family, and other people on the road. A vehicle only 4-6years old should not be having these issues-- it is obviously faulty parts and/or production.

9 Steering Rack And Pinion problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2015

Steering became difficult when driving. My 2011 chevy Traverse was brought to dealer, diagnosed failure of power steering pump and rack and pinion. Was informed that chevy would only cover power steering pump under separate extended warranty issued by gm and that rack and pinion is not covered and I would need to pay full cost of replacement. Steering issues appear to be an issue with the vehicle, this is a major safety concern that needs to be addressed. Gm should be required to extend warranty for entire steering system.

10 Steering Rack And Pinion problem

Failure Date: 03/25/2015

My vehicle's power steering failed, gm has a recall notice about the steering pump leaking but they would not replace as per the recall. They said my rack and pinion steer has also is leaking. 12 Steering Rack And Pinion problem

Failure Date: 12/08/2014

On August 6, 2014 we had our vehicle serviced by the dealer due to an airbag recall and at the time the vehicle had 38,000 miles. Shortly there after we noticed a grinding noise when we made a right hand turn. At first it happened intermittently but eventually it became noticeable at low rates of speed (5 - 10 mph). Today we took the vehicle to the dealership for the third recall this being the power steering pump. We were informed that this was covered by gm but we also had a leak in our rack and pinion and it would cost $1200 to repair. We intend to fight this since it appears it may be linked to the steering recall. We also have noticed that the driver side seat belt has cut a groove into the plastic seatbelt cover near the shoulder harness. We were told that this was not related to the earlier seat belt recall which had been serviced. This could effect the integrity of the seat belt system if the belt gets snagged by the plastic groove which has appeared. This should not happen with a car that is less than 3 years old.

16 Steering Rack And Pinion problem

Failure Date: 03/08/2014

On March 8, 2014, (2011 chevy Traverse) I was turning right into a restaurant when my power steering went out. It took all of my strength and my 20 yr old son (passenger) to turn the wheel to get off the road. We almost went into the guardrail and could have very well been plowed into from the car behind us. In parking lot we checked steering fluid & added some. On way to our house about 2 hours later it happened again when I made a left turn. This time I went off the road a bit, inches away from hedges & someone's lawn. Very dangerous. Took it to chevy dealership who wanted over $1,800. 00 to fix the power steering pump and rack & pinion. Of course it was not under warranty!!! I ended up taking it to a private shop and paid $1,470. I agree that there should be a recall and we should get our money back. If you research this like I have done. . . There are a lot of people out there with the same problem. Hope all of you file a compliant to force a recall !!!!.

19 Steering Rack And Pinion problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2012

I was purchasing the vehicle and told that I could not pick it up due to a faulty rack and pinion that they needed to replace. Now 30,000 miles later the rack and pinion has failed again and has to be replaced making this the 3rd rack in pinion in this car which is a safety issue. They are also stating front struts are now leaking. They found this faulty rack and pinion when I took the car in for low coolant levels and the water pump needing replaced under the extended warranty watch.
