My car randomly started alerting me of “ecs service” & “brake assist service”. The dealership essentially did nothing even though there is an active recall on the 2024 models.
At approximately 30,000 miles, upon starting my 2025 Chevrolet Traverse lt, the brake pedal traveled completely to the floorboards with zero resistance. Simultaneously, the 'service brake assist' warning message appeared. This loss of hydraulic pressure occurred while stationary. This follows a dealership visit one week prior for a 'glitchy' check engine light that was dismissed by service staff. The vehicle is being towed via flatbed to the dealership as it is unsafe to operate. Additionally, the vehicle has exhibited abnormally 'touchy' brake response and a persistent high-pitched squeal from the front assembly since purchase. These symptoms suggest a failure of the e-boost braking system and/or internal master cylinder seals, consistent with service update n242482170. This defect poses an immediate risk of total brake failure during operation.
We drove the Traverse 55 miles to a baseball game. When we got in the car to return home several warning lights appeared on the instrument display and there was an audible warning sound. The message “service esc” and “brake assist failure” appeared on the instrument display panel. We couldn’t find a dealership that was open on Saturday so we cautiously drove 55 miles home. The brake pedal was hard to push and had to be pushed all the way to the floor to stop the vehicle. We could not drive faster than 62 mph on the way home and I had to start braking early in order to be able to come to a complete stop at stop lights. Cruise control isn’t working either and the audible alarm sounds off every couple of minutes. We took the car to our local dealership this morning.
The contact owns a 2025 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that while driving at slow speeds, the red "service brake assist warning" light and esc (electronic stability control) message were displayed. Additionally, the yellow abs, cruise control, and traction control warning lights were illuminated. Due to the failure, the contact returned to the residence and parked the vehicle. The dealer was contacted and agreed to have the vehicle towed from the residence to the dealer. The dealer performed a diagnostic and retrieved dtc: c055f, for the brake master cylinder failure. The dealer informed the contact of technical service bulletin: 25-na-240; and the failure was associated with the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired and remained with the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 11,000.
Master cylinder failure at 15,000 miles on 4/13/2026 safety risk of potential brake system failure. Taken to dealership on 4/13/2026, as of today 4/16/2026, master cylinder has been replaced but now the vehicle is rejecting the part, per the dealership. Abs light and brake light illuminated at the time of failure. No other car symptoms noted.
I was driving through the tollbooth on the bayway in [xxx] , I stepped on the brake to slow down and all kinds of warning lights lit up in the car showing the brakes were not working. Anything automatic with the brakes failed. I had to stand on the brakes to get the Traverse to stop. The issue was confrmed to be the master brake cylinder I was lucky they had it in stock at maher Chevrolet in st petersburg. My grandson was supposed to be in this car the next day driving over the skyway bridge. The safety of children is being compromised. Please issue a recall!!!!! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Master brake cylinder is defective. Multiple caution lights illuminated. (service esc, service brake assist, cruise control inoperative) ed morse Chevrolet and brad deery motors have both confirmed the brake cyclinder being defective. Ed morse advised not ordering the same brake cylinder as they are known issues from factory, they advised me to wait for the recall or a re-engineered part to be produced by gm. Brad deery motors knew nothing about this and they are currently putting the oem master brake cylinder back on the car. I believe they are putting a known defective component back on my brand-new vehicle. There is currently a law suit in pennsylvania. Turned on vehicle on 3/2/2026 and received a message stating "anti-lock break system failure. Drive slow and stop cautiously. " I test drove my vehicle in my local neighborhood and discovered that my brakes were only functioning at about 20% and would only respond if the brake petal was pressed all the way down. My car was towed to the local dealership to be assessed and was determined to need reservoir 4. 651, cylinder 4. 650, and fluid 8. 800 when it was picked up on 3/6/2026. Under further review of this report I came to discover a class action lawsuit for this vehicle make and model relating to cylinder part #85762161. I am unsure if my original part was that part number, but my experience closely mirrors other's that have been reported for the same issue and part repair. The part that was also replaced in my vehicle after the repair was part #85762161. Some individuals in this lawsuit have reported 100% brake failure. I am fearful to continue driving the vehicle knowing that there could still be ongoing issues with the part that directly relates to the brakes.
I was driving at night on a dark road my truck showed “ brake assist failure. Press hard to brake. Speed limited. ” I tried to step on the brakes & the truck didn’t stop. I was able to eventually turn the truck off & when I restarted it was fine. Luckily it wasn’t a busy street or that I didn’t have my 3 kids with me because it could’ve ended differently. I set an appointment at my dealership & when I went to start my truck again 1. It was dead and 2 when I jumped it, that same message popped up again & my truck was towed to the dealership on 2. 25 & I haven’t heard back from the dealership since with an update.
I turned my vehicle on and my brakes, abs, traction control and anti collision lights all came on. Upon research this is a known problem in 2025 and a recall in 2024. It did in fact end up being the master cylinder and brake system that faulted.
While driving, abs, traction control, esc, forward collision, and awd alerts were indicated by the car. At the time it had 10 months in service and approximately 12,800 miles accumulated. After 17 days at the dealers service department and a direct call to gm the brake master cylinder and associated components were replaced. I've seen several reports of this generation of Traverse having this same issue for other owners at low mileage. I want to file this report to ensure that nhsta is aware of this serious safety concern that could result in loss of braking power. It appears to be widespread and not addressed by any recall and dating back to the 2024 model year change to the most recent generation.
While driving on the interstate, the anti-collision system activated when a car swerved in front of the vehicle. The vehicle stopped and resulted in a brake failure after that. All brake warning lights came on the dash, message stating brake failure and drive with caution and limited speed was displayed. Brakes were no longer working properly.
My vehicle experienced a brake system failure that rendered it unsafe to drive and required it to be towed to the dealership. I have been informed by the dealer that the issue involves a failure of the left rear brake caliper. The vehicle is currently out of service at the dealership. Because this issue affects the braking system, it is a significant safety concern.
Driving home coming up to a traffic light - I turned left onto rd - after turning lost the brakes. Saw message on dashboard along with many others indicators as well. Saw the same message as the previous time ““brake assist failure. Press hard to brake. Speed limited”.
The contact owns a 2025 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated while driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle shifted into limp mode, causing the vehicle to decelerate unintendedly. During the failure the headlights and the interior lights flashed and flickered, and the abs, traction control, and several unknown messages were displayed. While depressing the brake pedal, the brake pedal extended to the floor and the vehicle failed to immediately stop. The vehicle was later towed to the local dealer who recharged the battery and performed a software update to the crucial control module. The contact stated that three weeks later the same failure had reoccurred. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 9,995.
The vehicle has been brought to an authorized dealership for numerous service visits related to electrical system issues that ultimately affected the braking system. During one service visit, the vehicle was returned to me with multiple active dashboard warning lights illuminated related to the braking system, including electronic stability control and automatic emergency braking. I questioned the presence of these warning at pickup and was advised by the dealer that the vehicle was safe to drive and that the warnings would clear on their own. After driving the vehicle for a short period, I became uncomfortable continuing to operate it with brake-related warning lights still active and returned it to the dealer. Upon further diagnosis by a service technician, it was discovered that the vehicle has significant brake system defects requiring replacement of major components, including the brake control module and master cylinder. During diagnosis, the brakes locked and the parking brake would not disengage, rendering the vehicle undrivable. No collision or injury occurred. However, the vehicle was released to me with active brake system warnings and later found to have serious brake defects. Due to the safety-critical nature of the braking system and the repeated electrical and brake-related service history, I am reporting this for documentation and review.
Driving home - what looked like warning indicators on the dashboard, came on. Lost the ability to brake. Had to push the pedal all the way to the floor to get some braking to happen. A message came on the dashboard “brake assist failure. Press hard to brake. Speed limited”. Once we were able to stop. We turned the car off. Then turned it back on. We saw a message on the dashboard to “open the drivers door” and then “roll down the drivers window”. We did that and the car seemed to be normal again.
The contact owns a 2025 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that while her husband was driving at 30 mph on an expressway, occupied with his wife in the vehicle, seated on the front passenger side, attempting to depress the brake pedal, the vehicle failed to respond as intended, causing the front end of the vehicle to crash with the rear end of the vehicle in front. The contact mentioned that the brake pedal felt abnormally hard and excessive force was applied; however failed to bring the vehicle to a stop, causing the crash. The air bags did deploy. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard, the vehicle was then towed to the insurance company. The contact stated she and her husband did not sustain any injuries. No medical attention was required. A police report was filed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 2,000.
Emergency braking occurs at random, even if I'm the only vehicle / object on the roadway. This has been ongoing and has been to the dealership three times. It starts back up each time the vehicle gets an update. Adaptive cruise will brake hard due to false emergency braking, but does not always stop accelerating at the set point (has gone as high as 20 mph over the set point previously and brakes would not respond during). Vehicle was not starting and "press brake to start" warning was showing even though brake pedal was pressed. Brake master cylinder had to be replaced along with brake module. When picking the vehicle up afterward, warning light came while vehicle was warming up "service brake assist" and then shortly after the yellow-circled abs dashlight came on. Dealership said this was a new problem and separate from the brake master cylinder and brake module.
Vehicle currently at dealership for esc, brake system and abs warning lights coming on. Unable to use cruise control once these lights came on.
I started the vehicle to move it to a different place in my driveway and after putting it in reverse, it notified me that the abs was not working. I could not stop the vehicle without pressing the brakes very hard and even then it was still rolling backward slowly. I quickly put the vehicle in park before the car rolled into my house.
2025 Traverse abs brake system failed, and master cylinder broke at 12k. All of the safety features, lane departure, forward crash detection, blind spot, automatic braking system all stop working with no signs that it was failing! extremely unsafe! Traverse are meant to be family vehicles, well with major functions failures this kind of problem is going be recipe for disaster if not recalled ASAP.
Brakes have squeaked since the day we bought our brand new vehicle. I have contacted the dealers and called corporate. The answer I have received from both is”it is the material they are making the brake pads out of. ” we paid over $50,000. 00 for our vehicle and do not want to deal with squeaky brakes all the time. They will not do anything about it.
Brake assistance failure. Brakes failed! esc service I was able to set it up for inspection could of caused a accident hurting other people or hurting my family, I use this vehicle to transport my 2 babies vehicle would not brake properly could have cause serious injuries for my vehicle not yet has not been inspected it was towed, from what I have heard from current Traverse owners they have experienced this same issue with even lower milage no warning lights no indications of failure just happend instant twice.
My brakes, abs, front collision, esc light are on and dealership continue to try to fix and no luck. I have take 3 times in the last week with no luck. I need this fixed because I bought for safety features and now I have no vehicle to drive to work.
We drove the car to the store and everything was fine we went in to shop. We came back out and I turned the car on and my dash board had lights on. My brake light will not turn off . My abs light is on. My forward collision light is on . . I am getting a notice to service esc, and a separate one saying service brake assist . I ran a onstar diagnostic and it came back everything is good. I have not brought it into the dealership yet for them to look at it I will be calling . I have multiple children and I was so scared my brakes were fulling going to give out on my 20 min drive home. I couldn’t imagine what would have happened we could have hurt someone else on the road and ourselves.
Brake booster failure, master brake cylinder failure.
I was driving down the road with my 4 year old son in the back and I went to stop at a stop sign and my car immediately lost brakes, the brakes went down to the floorboard with almost little to no stopping of my car. Then I had 3 warnings on my dashboard I can send pictures of them, my check engine light came on, my abs light came on and my traction control light came on. Very scary and something needs to be done about this.
The 2025 chevy Traverse was purchased on 10/27/25 - new. On the morning of 10/31/25, several lights came on for service such as the brake, abs, traction control and forward collison. Through a quick google search, saw there are many issues with the master cylinder leading to brake issues. At this time, the car only has 535 miles. Prior to this incident, the car had no evident issues. I contacted my local dealership to set up an appointment to have the issue assessed and fixed. The appointment is scheduled for 11/5/25. I will not be able to drive the car in the mean time, as it poses a safety concern (brake failure) to my family and myself.
I started my car last Sunday afternoon (10/26/25) and it began to alert me with tones and flashed on my dashboard "service brake assist" and "service esc". Prior to that I drove it earlier that morning and it was seemingly working fine. Took it to the dealership the next evening (Monday, 10/27/25)for them to look at the following day (Tuesday, 10/28/25) and was told they were still looking into it. They just contacted me today (Wednesday, 10/29/25) that it is the brake master cylinder that had failed and that I should not drive it and they offered me a rental car.
Front collision system failed. Abs and traction control are now failing. My breaks gave out yes no the failure happened the day the warning lights came on - 10/26/2025.
While driving our 2025 Chevrolet Traverse with 9450 miles at 45 mph, it suddenly came to a complete stop and would not advance. Eventually after restarting the vehicle it would drive again, but the abs, collision avoidance, traction control, and emergency braking was disabled. We learned that the "master brake cylinder" failed. This requires a repair and the parts are backordered. Furthermore we learned this is a known common issue and there is a service warning for the 2024 Traverse and there is now a class action lawsuit. It apparently is also common on the 2025 Traverse. This is a potentially dangerous situation that apparently is common and should prompt an immediate recall and replacement with a new and redesigned part. There are numerous reports of similar incidents and per the dealer this is a common repair.
My Traverse breaks gave out while going to pick my kids from school. I cannot safely drive my vehicle. Master break cylinder needs replacement,.
The master cylinder and abs braking system failed, rendering the vehicle inoperable and leaving my family stranded approximately 285 miles from home. This represents a serious safety defect, as the braking system malfunctioned while the vehicle was in operation. The dealership has confirmed the issue, and the vehicle has remained in their possession for over two weeks awaiting parts and repair. During the failure, multiple warning indicators illuminated, including the abs, service esc, and brake system lights. Once the brake system engaged, I was unable to release it or drive the vehicle any further.
Warning light ‘service electronic stability control’ appeared 2 days ago. Vehicle feels unbalanced, steering wheel has excessive play (like driving a boat), and control is compromised. Mileage over 10,000. Safety concern due to difficulty handling. ”.
