The vehicle stalls while driving at any speed. It has left me on the highway or the middle of an intersection with myself & my kids in danger. The check engine light comes on before the vehicle shuts off completely & loses power & steering. The traction control & stability warning also come on. The vehicle has rolled backwards while in park numerous times so I have to use the parking brake on a regular basis as a safety precaution. The power steering is also an issue. The driver seat belt & air bags make this car a rolling death trap. There are past recalls or safety concerns for the Traverse that are the exact same issue that I’m having but they are not specific to my VIN number so the dealership refuses to address them! is 7 recalls & they all apply to this vehicle! I’ve attempted to have the vehicle repaired multiple times & they have failed & the same problem returns. I just want my vehicle to be safe & not put myself or my family in danger of being injured or killed.

To the national highway traffic safety administration (NHTSA), I am writing to inquire about an issue recently encountered with my 2018 Chevrolet Traverse. On July 21, 2025, my vehicle was at riverview chevy for its state inspection, during which the rear toe links were identified as failed and required replacement. This service, including the necessary alignment, resulted in an out-of-pocket expense of approximately $750. I recall previous discussions regarding a potential recall concerning failing rear toe links on 2018-2020 Chevrolet Traverse models. While my vehicle is a 2018 model and experienced this exact issue, the dealership indicated that no recall was pending for my specific VIN. I find this discrepancy concerning, particularly given the known history of this component in similarly years and the fact that my vehicle indeed suffered this failure. I will be submitting the relevant documentation from the dealership outlining the repairs performed. I kindly request that you review this matter and provide clarification regarding the recall status for my vehicle's VIN. I am seeking a resolution regarding the costs incurred for this repair, as it appears to be a known issue for which a recall may have been appropriate. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. I look forward to your prompt response.

Purchased the 2020 Traverse on [xxx] from basswood in ft. Payne alabama. Under the guise of the salesman I was assured that the vehicle was in great shape, with no issues at all, and a very clean carfax. Well I'm new to purchasing a car via financing with a CO-signer in which he was assured the vehicle was in great shape. Well unbeknownst to us my household the car was nothing of the sort. Within a few days the start/stop malfunctioned to the point it would not restart 98% of the time without sounding like a demo saw, it's a dangerous problem and there's times we smelled fuel once we were able to restart the vehicle. The front right wheel assembly looks as if it were on fire and if that's brake dust and it has a grinding whomp whomp sound when in motion, that's really not good no wonder it's hard to stop at times. The front end sounds like drums when going over bumps, speed bumps, road imperfections etc. . On morning start-up there's an absurd amount of exhaust coming into the cabin area, the codes [p3055 and p3056] are registered from the computer of vehicle. Now the smell of fuel is blowing through all vents whenever the defrost is running or all vents are used front and rear, with the truck in motion. It was so bad today that my entire family had to pull over to a gas station and get fresh air our eyes were burning and my [xxx] son nose started to bleed. , so that's two parents and 6 children scrambling for safety. This is our only reliable vehicle other than an old 99 suburban that is hardly even road worthy anymore. I spoke with several people that have purchased vehicles and all agreed that the salesman and mostly the sales managers knew that the vehicle came from an auction and was never serviced nor inspected at the basswood dealership, which equates to them actively concealing major effects and problems with the vehicle in question. Just to make a one time commission on a fraudulent deal! they didn't provide any inspection papers to me! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia.
1)both rear tow links were found to fail state inspection and were replaced. The vehicle only has 22,000 miles on it dealer said this a common issue with this model vehicle (2019 chevy Traverse). 2) shift to park. Vehicle displays this error message and does not allow the vehicle to completely shut down, aux mode, which the radio stays on and doors will not lock. Have to start and shut off vehicle until the “shift to park” error message goes away. Dealer said wiring harness is on back order snd could not be repaired until parts are available. Dealer charged $178. 00 for diagnostics and agreed there is an open and intermittent circuit causing this issue.

Incident description: on 10/2/2024, I discovered a critical failure in the rear suspension of my 2018 Chevrolet Traverse. The rear left control arm had completely rusted through and detached from the vehicle frame. This occurred unexpectedly while my family was backing the vehicle into the driveway from my garage. Had this failure happened while driving, it could have resulted in a catastrophic loss of control, leading to a severe accident with potential for serious injury or fatality to my family and others. This incident raises serious concerns about the safety of 2018 Chevrolet Traverse vehicles. The premature and sudden failure of a critical suspension component due to rust suggests a potential defect in the materials, anti-corrosion treatment, or design of the control arm. This could pose a significant safety risk to all owners of this vehicle model. I have taken detailed photographs of the failed control arm and the affected area of the vehicle frame, clearly showing the extent of the rust and corrosion. General motors has issued a safety recall (n212346640) for certain vehicles due to a defect in the rear suspension toe links. These vehicles may have received improper electrocoating corrosion protection, making the toe links susceptible to premature rust and fracture. This could lead to a loss of vehicle control and increase the risk of a crash. The similarity of this recall to the failure I experienced with the rear left control arm onmy 2018 Chevrolet Traverse suggests a potential pattern of corrosion-related suspension component failures in general motors vehicles. this recall demonstrates that general motors has acknowledged and addressed similar corrosion-related defects in other vehicles. It supports my concern that the control arm failure on my Traverse may also stem from a manufacturing defect and warrants a thorough investigation by the NHTSA.

The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at undisclosed speeds and making a left or right turn, the vehicle was not stable and was moving unintendedly. On another occasion, while having maintenance service performed on the vehicle, the mechanic advised the contact that the rear toe links had rotted out due to corrosion and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the rear toe links needed to be replaced due to the corrosion. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 44,036.
The rear sway bar linkage broke which lead to unsafe handling/ control of vehicle. I was driving and anytime I made a right turn there was a loud clunk in rear of vehicle. Concerned it will wear other parts out by this specific part not working/broke.

My car has 61,000 miles. I've been noticing that the rear suspension seems off. During a dealership oil change, they told me my rear adjustment links were loose. I took it to a tuffy auto service place for a 2nd opinion (looking for cheaper cost) and they said it was actually my rear toe links. They said it was very surprising that they would be bad already. I agree. It's a 2019 and shouldn't be having these issues. I've noticed other chevy's have been recalled for the same thing and I'm wondering if it's wider spread.
This vehicle just recently failed inspection for the right rear toe link. I spoke with the dealers service department who stated that this is a known issue with this model but that there is not a current recall. From my research on Chevrolet forums, this is a very frequent issue. This is a very dangerous issue, and owners are being forced to pay for this known issue out of pocket. It is apparent that this is a manufacturing defect that should be recalled by Chevrolet.
51000 miles. Rear toe links replaced. Well kept highway miles driven with low mileage. Other gm cars have been recalled for this. Well known problem on Traverse.
On September 29, I took my 2019 Traverse to the dealer for its annual state inspection for virginia at radley Chevrolet in fredericksburg. The dealer failed the car due to needing a rear toe link replacement. The dealer told me that this is common in the 2019 Traverse and are replacing quite a few of them. The cost for the repair is going to be about $600. It only has 41,500 miles and has been a very dependable vehicle. What concerns me is that reading other online forums, many owners are lamenting the same thing being told that this is common amongst the Traverse, yet there are no recalls on it. There are a few other gm models that have a recall for the rear suspension, but I don't understand why the Traverse isn't one of them. I am asking for a review of this to see how many toe links have been repaired on the Traverse, specifically among 2019 models, compared to how many have been sold. If a recall is decided to be implemented, it would save a lot of people the hassle of being blindsided or at least thinking they are being scammed by the dealer. If there will be a recall, I would then seek reimbursement from gm as this should have been done long ago and just replaced on all vehicles, not just when it's being taken in for an inspection. Thank you very much. Perrin palistrant.
Nothing has happened to date. Dealership said that I need two new rear toe adjustment links when the car has less than 50,000 miles, no accidents, 1 owner, and properly maintained. This is a known issue with gm cars including Buick lacrosse, Buick regal, Chevrolet malibu, GMC acadia, Cadillac xt5, and Cadillac xt6. The Chevrolet Traverse needs to be added to this recall as numerous customers have run into the same issue.
I just had the vehicle inspected and was shocked to find out that the rear trailing arms links or toe links failed inspection. Both the right and left side in the rear failed inspection. This was also causing the vehicle to be out of alignment. From these failed parts could've also caused a potential accident. The vehicle is only 4 years old and it has less than 40,000 miles on it. I believe these rear suspension parts failing this early is unacceptable. I also heard from my local dealership that this is a common problem among a couple models as well.
Both rear toe links and alignment. Vehicle has had a slight clicking or clinking sound coming from back. (very quiet). During high speeds, such as highway use, vehicle appears to move back and forth more than expected while driving, and feels like its "rough running" as if something on suspension system is working harder at a higher speed. Dealer said this can cause excessive swaying of vehicle at higher speeds and therefore can cause accidents at these high speeds, especially on a highway road system. History: bought pre-owned vehicle back in June 2022. Within 6 weeks, took into dealer first time to have diagnosed amd repaired (both rear toe links and alignment). Dealer did replace the toe links, and stated vehicle was required to have a 4-wheel alignment after replacing, but that we as the owners were liable for cost of alignment. Extended warranty said that alignment should have been covered, dealer again said "no, wasn't part of the warranty or repair". I confirmed that it was absolutely necessary to perform this alignment. 12 months later, we took vehicle into dealer again for same sounds (soft or quiet clinking in back of vehicle) who stated both rear toe links are loose (again) and vehicle is required to have a 4-wheel alignment. Our warranty will again cover the rear toe links, but not the alignment. Per the labor guide that the dealer uses for repairs and per our warranty, if a 4 wheel alignment is required in order to replace the rear toe links, the alignment is supposed to be covered under warranty. Dealer is stating no. Both dealer and warranty company have access to the same labor guide information. This is a problem, and we heard from one other chevy Traverse owner that they had the same repeating issue. Why isn't there a recall for this?? owners shouldn't have to pay for constant repair of the same issue if this is occuring, even multiple times on a yearly basis. It's expensive, several hundred dollars alone.
My rear passenger side coil spring broke. It has 77000 miles. I don’t drive much. Not sure why it would of broke.

The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated while driving up the driveway, the 4wd and all-wheel drive became inoperable. The passenger's side front tire was spinning and making an abnormal sound. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the sun gear needed to be replaced, a tire rotation test was performed, and the rear differential was replaced. The tire test was performed and failed. The failure recurred. The manufacturer was contacted, and the engineer informed him that the vehicle was working as designed and that another engineer would be assigned to check the pcu. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000. The VIN was not available.

Took vehicle in for yearly inspection. Vehicle had 39950 miles on it. Vehicle would not pass inspection because of rear suspension adjustment link which could lead to accident. This problem is well known to service techs who inform owners this is a recurring issue at 40000 miles.
Brought the vehicle in to dealer for oil change, and tire rotation. Dealer found that the rear toe links on the Traverse were corroded. It only has 36970 miles and is not covered under warranty which expired 36,000. This is a recall on numerous gm vehicles and gm should cover and issue recall on the Traverse as well.
I can't stand having to drive a car with that risk to life any longer. I have to drive with my family inside, there are two small children and I'm scared, and chevy just tells me that they still don't have the part for the airbag. I've been dealing with this for years and I still don't have an answer. My car's price has dropped a lot because of this problem and chevy isn't taking responsibility for the problem. I need to know what I can do.

Traction control said off light on. Car shut down power failure. Car shaking as it stopped in traffic almost causing an accident. Barely made off road. I have seen other multiple complaints and no way to fix this problem. It is a death sentence on the highway. With no other transportation for me.
Both rear toe links were corroded and had to be replaced at 38,000 miles. This is a known problem as the service tech said he had seen it in the equinox as well. It could have caused a serious accident and injury by causing the vehicle to veer uncontrollably due to loss of steering. There is already a recall for several gm vehicles. The recall should be expanded to include the 2019 Traverse. The replacement of the toe links and the cost of the wheel alignment that is required should be covered. Https://gmauthority. The contact owns a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that while the vehicle was at the dealer for tire replacement, the dealer determined that the rear toe link needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then taken to ron currier's hilltop Chevrolet (385 nh-108, somersworth, nh 03878) where it was also determined that the rear toe link needed to be replaced. The dealer replaced the rear toe link. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA hotline. The failure mileage was 46,469.
The sway bar/control arm broke up near the engine without cause. It appears metal fatigue or manufacture defect caused same. It's failure led to cv joint and other damage. This was discovered during a changing of tires. I don't know how long it had been broken as no obvious signs were readily apparent and my wife said it drove normal. There was no accident or other impact that would have caused same.
Power steering pump and high pressure hose gave out needing to be replaced. Gm has manufactured a replacement pump that is superior to the original obviously noticing that it was not going to hold up.

The whole vehicle shakes while driving it seems like the battery is going dead or it doesn't want o to go anywhere. Timing change the gas guage not reading right it horrible gas mileage.
The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that the weight of the vehicle placed on the vehicle's suspension would cause the steering wheel and four tires to not align. Due to this failure, the contact stated that the steering wheel would align 50% percent to the right without warning which cause the vehicle to be undriveable. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic for multiple repairs including the control bushing, lower control arm, rack and pinion, and several other vehicle parts; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer had been notified of the failure and informed her that there were zero recalls on the vehicle. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
I bought my vehicle on Jan 2019 brand new from the dealer, after one year, I noticed slight clicking or clinking sound coming from back when I remove my foot from gas paddle. The sound become worst over time, and I had to take the car to the dealer on 2022, after inspection the technician told me that both rear toe links were bad and need a replacement. He told me this is very serious safety issue. It cost me around $400 dollar; this is not acceptable from a brand new vehicle. The dealer told me this a normal issue known for this model and other models. After 6 months, the sound come back and I took it again to the dealer, same issue they did find; both rear toe links were going bad again. Less than a year the same part go bad. This is a problem, and we heard from one other chevy Traverse owner that they had the same repeating issue. Why isn't there a recall for this?? owners shouldn't have to pay for constant repair of the same issue if this is occurring, even multiple times on a yearly basis. It's expensive, several hundred dollars alone.
Car was powering down at highway speeds and check engine light came on. Now needs timing chains replaced. Also started having issues with the steering not working and the steering rack is bad and needs replaces. Suspension is no good and all has to be redone. Vehicle only has 70,000 miles on it for being a 2011.
While moving the vehicle jerks as if something is going on with transmission. It has been checked and all is ok. Check engine gives codes and then they disappear. The lights flicker inside and out. These symptoms come and go. Several mechanics have checked out this vehicle and cant find anything wrong with vehicle. Also took vehicle back to Chevrolet. Also the vehicle is being illegally monitored and tracked. This could be causing all issues with vehicle.
My car has been very well taken care of and still is only at 70,000 miles. Prior to a 1000 mile road time with my husband and two children I went in for a regular maintenance and to prep for the trip. After getting back my struts went out, apparently a chevy defect. After paying upwards of $1,000. 00 to replace and check everything we headed on the road. No less that 60 miles from home, while going 65 on the freeway, my car lost all power. Power steering, ac, the whole thing just shut down! we barely made it to the side of the freeway to be safe from the traffic, again, my children are in this car in 90+ degree weather on the side of a freeway! I am now in the process and finding out that chevy, american made crap, has had this happen before to families, putting them at risk, leaving them stranded and has not done any recalls on this dangerous matter. The car didn't slow down, it lost power, it lost everything and we would have be slammed by multiple other cars if my husband didn't make a fast move off the freeway. How can a long time, again american, car manufacturer produce such a defective vehicle that can't even make it to 100k miles? so now I am paying on a vehicle that I don't even know what will cost because I have to tow it to someone while still making payments. Do not buy chevy!.
