I was in an accident and the seatbelt pretensioners activated but my airbags did not deploy. When I got my vehicle inspected the shop noticed my airbag system needed to be replaced saying the airbag diagnostic module, right & left front air bag impact sensors needed to be replaced. The impact of my vehicle was very minor and could not have damaged the airbag diagnostic module internally. I do believe this was a preexisting issue and it has just now been noticed when my car had to be thoroughly inspected.

On October 8, 2025 my cousin, elicia smith, and I were on highway mile 113, 65 north and were about to exit when an ambulance exited onto the highway ahead causing the traffic to suddenly stop. As it stopped, I hit my brake, which usually jolts when I hit it but it didn't this time, the brake didn't feel the same it felt like my car wasn't stopping. The warning that usually goes off didn't go off either. My car hit a Jeep that was in front of me at a speed of about 55 to 60 mph yet none of my airbags diployed. We smelled fire and saw some smoke but couldn't see over the hood that had been bent up, both of our seatbealts had been stretched out so that when we took them off, we could not put them back on, and the adjuster I had on my seatbealt to keep it off my shoulder completely broke off. I pull over as far as I could safely since I couldn't see. The driver of the Jeep got out of her car and inspected it, she came back to the passenger side of my car and said that she was in a rental, there was no damage and couldn't afford to turn in accident in so she had to leave, and left the scene. Both my cousin and I were feeling pain in our chest so when 1st responder came, he called for an ambulance. We were both taken to eskenazi er where my cousin was treated and released the same day. I was admitted into the hospital icu and had emergency spinal cord surgery on October 9, 2025 and wasn't released until October 17, 2025. After the accident, I saw a few messages that were sent to my GMC account inbox dated October 8, 2025 saying that my airbags may need to be serviced, after the accident happened.
On October 8, 2025 my cousin, [xxx] , and I were on highway mile 113, 65 north and were about to exit when an ambulance exited onto the highway ahead causing the traffic to suddenly stop. As the traffic stopped, I hit my brake, which usually jolts when I hit it but it didn't this time, the brake didn't feel the same, the brake was soft and it felt like my car wasn't stopping. The warning red light that usually goes off didn't and I hit a Jeep at a speed of about 55 to 60 mph yet none of my airbags diployed. We smelled fire and saw some smoke come in from the vents but couldn't see over the hood that had been bent up, both of our seatbealts had been stretched out so that when we took them off, we could not put them back on, and the adjuster I had on my seatbealt to keep it off my shoulder completely broke off. I pull over as far as I could safely since I couldn't see. My car was towed and we were both taken to eskenazi er where my cousin was treated and released the same day. I was admitted into the hospital icu and had emergency cervical fusion spinal cord surgery on October 9, 2025 and wasn't released until October 17, 2025 with ongoing treatment for therapy and loss of mobility of my right arm which is due to nerve damage and abdomen bruising, I am still recovering and have ongoing treatments for my spine. I noticed the alarm didn't sound when it should have times before but since nothing was said about any problem when I took my car in for service in September, I didn't think that there would be an issue like this. A police report was made but I do not have a copy yet. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Ran into a cemex block with no light pole. The parking lot was dark and cemex block was not marked. Forward collision detection system did not work and airbag ejected some shrapnel cutting my arm and shatter ing my bone in forearm and wrist. I’m lucky it did not hit me in the head or I would be dead today. By the grace of god I’m still alive amen !.
Was making right hand turn which causes vehicle to straddle shoulder for a brief period of time because of how lines are painted. Auto steering resisted the manual steering to get into the lane properly and pulled vehicle onto shoulder further which lead vehicle to be pulled into the ditch.
The contact owned a 2024 Chevrolet Trax. The contact stated that while his girlfriend was driving through an intersection at 20 mph, another vehicle ran a red light and crashed into the vehicle, causing a t-bone impact. The air bags did not deploy upon impact. The other driver was treated for an arm injury(arm unknown) by paramedics on the scene. The next morning, the contact's girlfriend went to a doctor, where she was treated for both back and neck pain. A police report was filed, and no property damage was reported. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was deemed a total loss. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle was destroyed. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
My 2020 chevy Trax did not deploy the air bags, at all, when hit cement wall head on. The impact to my chest area caused a wire from a chest surgery to snap, and is now dangling inside the middle of my chest, near my heart. I have the pictures & the witness was a sheriff. It make no sense that none of the air bags deployed. None. I want to report it as will be pursuing, and to make sure others know that this is an issue that can cause bodily harm and there are no recalls on these cars. That's scary. No idea now what I must go thru due to this injury which never should've happened.

Passenger side air bag light does not indicate that the airbag is on. This happens very often when you sit in the passenger seat and fasten the seat belt. This has been happening for several weeks.
I was in a car accident where all of my airbags deployed. The seat airbag deployed, and the deflation vents were facing me. It melted my polyester shirt into me and burned my the skin across my ribs on my left side (nearest to the door). I was not aware of the location of the vents in the airbag until during the accident. This could be an issue for shorter people, who might have the airbags deploy closer to their face. I went to the hospital for the pain I was feeling in my ribs and difficulty breathing (some of which came from this airbag).
Had a head-on collision and the airbags failed to deploy. Everyone was highly surprised that the airbags didn't work and told me where to report the safety issue. Unknown if the car has been retested or inspected after the incident.

Sensors don’t detect passenger in front seat.
While driving on the highway at 80mph engine light came on and the car began to lose speed and would not accelerate. I had the code checked and the code p0299 obd-ii trouble code: turbo supercharger underboost condition. My vehicle has just 51k miles. There have also been issues with the passenger seat airbag not working. A year ago, the majority of the pipes in the undercarriage of my car had to be replaced because they had corroded.
Air bag light is on something about oil.
My wife was driving and we were hit hard enough to shove the vehicle into the next lane and crumple the undercarriage of the vehicle. Making it undrivable anymore. And any information I can find says side impact air bags will deploy if the vehicle is hit anywhere on the side of the vehicle. Which clearly did not happen in this case. A side note I can only ever find videos on direct side impact not indirect impacts that involves the wheels. In either case the front or back tire impacts will still involve the persons head being slammed into the door window causing head injury.
I see in the past that there is/was a recall on the airbag system for the 2016 Chevrolet Trax. My front passenger airbag light stays on in the off setting and it is unknown if if was fixed or checked by the previous owner. I had an accident March 2019 and the airbags didn't deploy. I never knew that I could report it to you as it was my first ever car accident. A car pulled out in front of me today at work, luckily I avoided having an accident and that's when I noticed again that the passenger side airbag light was set to off. Also would like to say that the display in the car doesn't work properly, the screen freezes. And whenever I connect my bluetooth, my phone and the radio plays at the same time. I have to turn the car off and back on to correct it.
My vehicle was has had 2 separate front end accidents. Both caused major damage. This last time my car was totaled out. Neither time did the air bags deploy. There were no warnings. Police report was filed. However the police was not on my side. He lied about the other person’s speed, where they were traveling, the distance of the stop sign and stop bar. He also took over a week to provide it. I had to keep calling.
I was hit on left side of passenger side. Air bags didnt came out on either side. Mechanics says air bags aren't working properly.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Trax. The contact stated while driving approximately 60mph when the contact was involved in an accident which resulted in the driver side air bag not deploying, and the driver side seatbelt not locking. A police report was taken and the vehicle was towed to a tow lot, then was towed to an insurance lot. The contact sustained concussion, broken nose, herniated and teared spinal discs and sought medical treatment. The manufacturer was not informed of failure. The failure mileage was approximately 4,700.
The air bag light randomly came on about two yeatago and never went off. The engine(turbo) has been having problems for two years now. I’ve been to the dealership several times over the year. I was almost hit by another vehicle because of slow take off.
It happened 3rd times now. First 2 had been replacments and now I have to return it to fix it for 3rd airbag.

I was driving speed limit, car in front of me stopped without enough notice and I hit the vehicle in front of me. Driver's airbag deployed with a loud pop and a cloud of smoke poured out from the airbag. My left forearm was burning and when I looked at my arm I watched my skin blister while the skin peeled away. 2nd degree burn was treated at local urgent care. The car I was driving is a company vehicle owned by my employer.
I wrecked my car and the air bags didn't deployed the fire department was worried why they didn't the wreck totalled my Trax. I was a main highway.
Relay system- truck relay went out multiple times, unable to open trunk. When replaced caused all relays including (airbag, headlights, dash board, and trunk relays) to no longer work. Have had mechanic reprogram system but no longer works.

2019 Chevrolet Trax. Consumer writes in regards to takata airbag safety recall. The consumer stated the dealer has had possession of the vehicle for 103 days. The manufacturer was contacted and stated the parts necessary to complete the repair were unavailable.
I hit a deer at 55 mph on highway destroying the entire front end including the radiator. No air bags deployed. Police report number 2019-00700.
My car has a light on for the airbag system (which remains on the entire time the car is running) but when taken to the shop to have it read, no codes are showing. After research, I see this could potentially be a software problem, although my specific car has not been recalled. I have concerns with the airbag(s) deploying unnecessarily or not deploying at all in an accident (according to the information in the owner's manual).
When I bougt it my vehicle was just like that. . . .
The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Trax. The contact stated that while his wife was seated in the front passenger’s side seat, the passenger’s side air bag warning light indicated that the air bag system was turned off and remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 7,305.
