1 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Trax

Failure Date: 02/17/2021

I bought my car brand new with 49 miles on it. From the first day it has been giving me a service rear camera system error, the entire dash will completely blackout on me and takes a while to come back on and my car was slipping while shifting from park to reverse and reverse to drive. With almost 65k miles on it, I started to get a service awd, service power steering with a faulty power steering issue while driving, my car randomly won't start, despite the battery and alternator all being good. I was receiving every error code, check engine light randomly on and shuts off, when I had the codes checked, I had never seen so many error codes in my life! low voltages, main system errors, the whole bit. Now my car thinks I am trying to steal it as the service theft deterrent system light is on.

Failure Date: 01/25/2021

The service manager at ron westpahl, david, said there is a service bulletin out for the ifor this problem, it is a known problem in the north with the cold weather the inverter get condensation in the vehicle and freezes. Since the weather has turn warmer the car now runs with no check engineer, but chevy has now refused to fix it because the check engine light is no longer on. This inverter has been redesigned t o prevent the condensation. If this is a known problem and they redesigned a part this should be a recall to all chevy Trax in the northern region.

Failure Date: 11/23/2019

Check engine light came on when I cranked the car up. Went to have it checked and at first it was a bad O2 sensor. That was fixed and two days later the check engine light was back on, took it back in and now I have to replace the air intake system on a vehicle with right at 27,000 miles on it. Both times, I keep getting diagnostic alerts from onstar telling me to check the antilock braking system and the stabilitrak control system.

10 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Trax

Failure Date: 12/30/2017

Cold weather caused turbo system to freeze and the vehicle go into limp mode. Unable to accelerate. Parts on national backorder for 2 months. I purchased this vehicle used with just under 19,000 miles on in December 2017. On December 30th the check engine light came on and the vehicle went into limp mode while accelerating on the highway (previous had let the vehicle go through 2 start up cycles and went about 5 miles down the road before I had an issue). The weather was around -20 f. Took to dealership and a solenoid was replaced for the turbo system. After about a week of having the vehicle, when the weather was cold but not as cold as the first time the issue occurred, the check engine light came on and the vehicle went into limp mode. I was probably about 10 miles down the road and had ran the vehicle through a remote start cycle. I was accelerating after slowing down for another vehicle. Vehicle was at the dealership for 2 months as the part I needed for TSB # 16-na-405 (dated 12/23/16) was on a national backorder. The weather warmed up, so the dealership let me have the vehicle back until the part came in. Shortly after the part I needed came in, so the TSB was completed. Chevy has known about the turbo system freezing for over a year, yet they sell vehicles with this issue in cold weather states. Chevy did not seem concerned about this issue, so I am hoping to warn others and get the word out. I spoke to someone who also has a Trax and had the same issue. They actually had their vehicle start smoking after the repair, and the repair had to me made over. Chevy needs to make sure this is fixed in all vehicles with this turbo system, so someone does get stranded or in an accident.

11 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Trax

Failure Date: 11/15/2017

In cold weather driving, 2017 chevy Trax will throw a check engine light 20 minutes after startup, which shuts down the vehicles ability to maintain speed. This happens in town and on the highway. Code says turbo freezing. The vehicle will go max 40mph uphill on the highway and max 60mph on flat or downhill highway. Have to pull over because cars are coming from behind very fast in snowy conditions when vehicle will not maintain speed. The vehicle cannot accelerate from a stop either. Very scary. In town driving is almost not possible without getting run into because you cannot get out of the way. We have 10 of these vehicles and they all do the same. Chevy dealer says they have a fix, but cannot gets parts to fix. Its been 4 months of this major safety issue with no help from chevy. I am fed up.

12 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Trax

Failure Date: 08/30/2017

On August 30, 2017 I recieved an alert from onstar (via email) stating my 2016 Chevrolet Trax (with 14,000 miles on it) was having numerous safety issues. That same day, I drove my Trax on the highway on my way home from work and it stalled out twice while going 70 mph almost to a complete stop in rush hour traffic. It continued to sputter the entire drive home, and my check engine light was flashing. I got it home, then the next day drove it to a dealership for repair. While driving it there, the vehicle was struggling to operate, and barely pushing 1000 rpm. It felt as though it would stall again if I accelerated too quickly.
