7 Headlights problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 05/25/2007

The headlight & turn signal assemblies on the van continued to accumulate condensation in them. This has been going on for about 2 years now. The dealer will not fix it, stating it was cosmetic, and did not interfere with safe operation of the vehicle. We took it Friday to get it inspected and it failed inspection. The cause of failure was contaminated light assemblies. We contacted the dealership from whom we bought the van, and was informed they would not do anything about it. The did admitted that they had several others with the same problem. They suggested we contact you. I removed the water from the headlight assemblies and got the van inspected again today. It did pass, but I felt certain condensation will be back again soon. I realized this may not appear to be a substantial problem, but it did interfere with the night vision capabilities. As I said earlier, this was not the first time I have removed water from the headlight assemblies on this van.

9 Headlights problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 03/27/2007

I filed a complaint already on a similar problem, odi number 10177955 on 1/5/2007 in which I had problems with condensation on the inside of my headlamps, making it difficult to see at night. The condensation now led to the driver's side halogen bulb exploding inside the headlight housing due to water accumulating inside the assembly splashing onto the bulb. There is no way to remove the glass from the exploded bulb from the inside of the headlight housing and there is no way to stop the condensation. I had to pay $180 for a new driver's side headlight housing. The passenger side headlamp has condensation forming inside. I am certain that I will have to replace the housing on the passenger side as well.

Failure Date: 02/05/2005

17 Headlights problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 02/01/2005

The contact owns a 1997 Chevrolet Venture. The headlight covers came off of the vehicle. It costs $178. 00 plus tax for each of the headlight covers to be repaired. About six month ago one of the headlight covers came off, and a couple of days ago, the other headlight cover came off. The entire headlight assembly has to be replaced to correct the problem. The gm manufacturer told her that this was the first time that he heard of this problem. Also, the contact had automatic transmission problems. The transmission slipped. The first time it got stuck in second gear. The transmission was replaced twice. The first time at only 26,000 miles, and the second time at 26,100 miles. Both times was replaced under warranty. After the second transmission was replaced it had only 78,000 miles on it. While on vacation and driving on the interstate the transmission quit. Had to coast off to the side of the road. That transmission was replaced with a modified transmission, and as of right now, the problem did not recur. All the dealerships that the contact checked to get a new transmission said that there where no transmissions around because they were redesigning all of the transmissions. The vehicle was towed home. She contacted gm manufacturer, and they would not do anything about it because the vehicle had over 100,000 miles.

22 Headlights problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 10/01/2003

Headlights right&left. Condensation is very high and water accumulates which can possibly cause the filiment to blow out it water bounces up into it. This can cause a problem while night driving ,espicially on dark roads such as we have in middleburg. The dealer states this is natural etc, but the amount of condensation where the water accumulates and stays in a puddle is not natural, dealer said the heat from filiment will dry it up but this does not happen,if you tap the glass the water runs down to form a puddle. . . . I did report this to them before on the way back from a trip and kind of hoped they were right about drying up but this is not so, at first they said I had a cracked lens but both sides? I wish I had of got a written report of this visit at that time. I told them at the time I was concerned if this was an ongoing problem they should look into it to avoid any future problems. We owned a 1997 van prior to this and they replaced headlights at least 4 times for the same problem,( this is recorded) file #1-159770583 is the # I was told to use for communicating this problem . I t talked to your agency verbally (nhta) thank you henry beaudoin.

23 Headlights problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 09/10/2003

Our 2002 chevy Venture van headlights kept going out at night while we were driving down the road. I took it to the garage where I bought it and they said that they have never heard of this happening before, the schematics don't show how to fix it. They even said they called gm engineers and that they said they didn't know how to fix it. So for the next year the garage kept putting in different pieces and sending the van home with us to drive. Mind you this is not something like the fan motor going off it's the dam headlights going off while at night and going down the road . The same thing happened time and time again headlights go out while you are driving down the road. After a year of this, we took it to the van to the garage and they kept it for 6 weeks. We kept getting different excuses of why it wasn't finished yet, so after the 6 weeks, they still didn't call, I was fed up enough I went and got the van. The serviceman stated gm started a forum web page to were if you have a problem with a vehicle, you can log on there and try to find an answer. That's how they found the next part they changed. Since we have gotten the van back on October 18th the headlights have stayed on. Then we think it took 13 months for this problem to occur the 1st time. What happens if it happens again and it causes an accident or death ??? I think we should be compensated for being the guinea pigs, in this research project. The chevy service rep stated all he could do is maybe get us 1 free year of service, I don't think this is no where near what is owed for putting our lives in danger. Please help.

24 Headlights problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 06/14/2003

Left front headlight fills with water and fogs up the lens cover thus hindering the beam of the headlight. Water literally stands in the light so much that when you bring the vehicle to a stop with the lights on, the beam is like an ocean wave. I have returned it to the dealership but they say they all do that and there is no remedy. We have been told to drill a hole in the casing to drain the water. My vehicle was bought new in June 2003. This has been a problem from the beginning. It is getting progressively worse. Water is now standing inside the lens. What happens when the freezing temperatures come? will my light freeze and burst? 2 of my family members also own Ventures and this seems to be a problem for them also. I have noticed other Ventures parked in parking lots and some of them also have a fogged up left headlight lens. I truly feel that gm should fix this problem. It has been this was since I drove it off the lot brand new. Surely a company with as much technology as gm has they could come up with a remedy for this "leaking light". It really hinders your vision using the headlights. Its like having a headlight out. Standing water is also hard on the headlight bulbs. Will this eventually cause an electrical short or possibly a fire at some point?.

25 Headlights problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Venture

26 Headlights problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 03/30/2003

1997 Chevrolet Venture. Headlight lens cover. Last summer I noticed the drivers side lens was loose so I glued it back on with epoxy. (cost $3. 00) recently I found out that the passenger side lens had fallen out sometime while driving. (both fell out within 6 months of each other) I went to wash the van and the halogen bulb exploded and flamed when it got wet. Had I been closer to the vehicle I could have been struck by flying glass. If this would have happened during a rain storm I would have been driving without headlights. (the dealership charged me $165 to replace one assembly). The sealant was faulty on the last assembly, I don't feel comfortable with the new one.
