3 Steering problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 12/12/2012

As I was turning into the parking lot of my child's school, the steering locked up on me. I couldn't turn the wheel for anything and thankfully was not going fast at the time or I wouldn't have been able to stop before having an accident with my children in the car. I turned the van on and off, waited and it still wouldn't work at all. It was after a few hours that I tried again and it worked at that time. I drove carefully home and have to take it in to the dealership to find out what is going on and have it fixed before we do have a major accident. There was no warning at all prior to this happening and we have had it serviced, checked, and all parts replaced as recommended. Oil changes done every 3,000 miles with full synthetic oil. All done at the dealership.

4 Steering problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Venture

The driver was slowing or stopped when she was rear ended. The front driver seat airbag deployed. It is unclear whether the airbag deployed prematurely or whether it deployed after the vehicle was rear ended.

5 Steering problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 11/27/2006

I bought my 97 Venture a year ago, ended up getting a recall notice about 3 months later for the rear door handles. Brought to dealer to have fixed, to find out other recalls weren't fixed. I had the steering recall done. Well now not even a year later and it needs to be replaced again. I have 4 children under 6 yrs old and this vehicle is a safety hazard, im afraid to travel in it!! every turn be it right or left I feel the steering kind of pop and stick its scary I think gm needs to reevaluate its so called family safe vehicle and reimburse all of us owners!!.

6 Steering problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 02/01/2006

On 28 July 2003, the chevy dealership replaced the lower pinion bearing in my 97 chevy Venture under a recall scheme. I should have taken it back in, since they left the vehicle with the steering offset to the right by about 15 degrees, but it was such a hassle dealing with them that I didn't bother. Around the start of February 2006, I started to experience intermittent problems when steering to the right. It was as if the power steering wasn't working. When I drive the van, I have to be constantly prepared to wrestle the wheel with both arms, although the fault is still intermittent. I have yet to raise the matter with the dealership, but note that there are many similar accounts, although mostly relating to steering to the left, for similar 97 Ventures and other gm vehicles.

There's a clicking noise in the vans' passenger side front end. This is caused by the defect stated in NHTSA recall campaign 99v071000 for the steering. Neither the dealership nor the manufacture can't identify if the vans' VIN number is covered under the recall warranty, per consumer.
