(1)windshield wiper control failure. Wipers failed to operate / operated erratically during rainstorm at night. Wipers work at times, not at all at others. Turning them off, then back on may get them working again, or maybe not. (2) had to pull off of the interstate. Was only able to get the wipers running on intermittent mode. Continued driving to destination with caution (white knuckle
driving all the way). (3) problem has not been diagnosed yet. Will not drive in the rain, until problem is successfully diagnosed / repaired.

It was raining in louisiana and I was driving to pick up my husband from work. Upon leaving his work. We were traveling east on highway 10 to church on a wendesday evening. The windshield wipers hit each other and the passenger side was laying limp on the side. The drivers side was still attempting to work. We had to turn them off and drive the rest of the way to church with no wipers. The passenger side had been bent and we removed the arm so that we could drive the van with just the driver side wiper. It was still under warranty at the time (11000 miles). We brought it to the local dealership in baker, louisiana. They did not have the parts to fix it so they ordered the parts. We waited three weeks for parts. When we finally called back to see if the parts had come in, they told us that they had and they just forgot to call us. We brought the van in and they replaced the wiper arm and they could not get the timing right on the wipers. They found out that they had to replace the transmission for the wipers and set the timing. They have been running fine until about three weeks ago. The just stopped working all together this time. You can hear the motor trying to turn to move the wipers but they are not moving. This repair is at 51000 miles. First time ever that I have had the windshield wipers on any vehicle I have owned go out, much less go out twice. The dealership wants to charge 240 dollars plus tax for repairs. This is ridiculous.

Windshield wipers. 2000 Chevrolet Venture van. The windshield wipers get caught together and break. This van uses the criss cross pattern and the drivers side wiper slips out of time and causes a collision between the wiper blades and causes the passenger side wiper to bend or break when the two wiper blades meet. Removing the passenger side blade causes the drivers side blade to operate in a changing pattern, moving from as little as 5" to moving beyond the drivers side windshield edge where is gets bound up on the door. We have had the van for about six months and have changed the wiper blades about 6 or 8 times. Finally just discovered that the problem is in the workings of the wiper motor arms that are not designed well and very cheap quality connections. They become loose and allow the blades to slip from the proper path and collide with each other. Very difficult to drive when you get caught in a rain storm at night with no wipers to speak off when you are in the middle of nowhere and have to be some where.
Front wiper blades stopped working twice.
Windshield wipers don't stay in proper postion. Manufacturer will replace entire unit at consumer's cost of $400. Unit will be warrantied up to 90 days. The windshield wiper malfunctioning was indentical to that described in sb 97005 for the same model and year.

The windshield wipers do not park closed and stay open on the glass, the front struts have also worn out and need to be replaced at 61,000 miles.
This part has been recalled. Gm notice c97005. The recall fixed was completed in April 1999. The wipers failed again and I took the vehicle to the dealership for replacement. I was told they only fix a recall issue once. I then called chevy assistance and was told the same thing. This repair ws in excess of $300. If not fixed the wipers are in my direct driving vision so I had the dealership make the repair. As stated in the report this is the 5th or 6th time this defect has been repaired. Additionally, I thought recalls are to fix the problem, looks like a bandaid until the vehcile is out of warranty.
Windshield wiper arm parks in the up-right position when wiper is turned off.
Windshield wipers failed to operate prorely, especially during inclement weather, affecting visibility.
The windshield wipers deposited all the snow and water from the upper portion of the windshield down into the bottom area which created a major ice build up and caused the defroster not to heat the bottom portion of the windshield.

Windshield wiper freezes.
The windshield wipers recede down in an area under the hood, this design causes a problem when it snows because the area that the wipers go down in fills with snow and ice and causes the wipers not to be able to go down all the way, one of the vans wiper motors burned out. Nlm.
Windshield wipers are inadequate in cold weather. The windshield wipers both swing into the middle of the windshield. If in the off position one sits under the other. Both wipers are hidden under the hood. It makes it impossible to clean the snow and ice that accumulates on them. Also, blades when in their off position appear not to get any value from defroster heat. Thus, rubber blade is cold and stiff.
