2 Car Stall problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 08/28/2020

My car has had ongoing problems with power propulsion, electrical system, and start-up since new and several items were replaced in 2017. I purchased 6 year / 100,000 extended warranty when new. Several items have been replaced. But updates are needed to keep the car running properly. Now the warranty has expired but the vehicle still needs updates to run properly and the dealer wants paid to install updates. This is a scam if the car wont run with out being updated yearly. I have a video of the car in 2017 when I started it up and it sounded as though it was going to blow up. I couldn't shut it off and called onstar to shut off the vehicle. That is when several items were replaced. The car is in the dealership again for another update. 8-28-20. There was an updated performed 11-11-19 and 10-10-18. It seems as though there is always an update being performed.

4 Car Stall problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 12/07/2018

While driving on a busy surface street the vehicle lost all propulsion and stalled. Steering locked up, was disabled, and electric power stopped. The warning light read "action required - shift to park'. This stall is immediate and highly dangerous. I was able to glide to the side of the road without being in or causing an accident. The orange engine symbol was illuminated. All systems shut down on the vehicle. The car was towed to the nearest chevy dealership but we were unable to turn off the vehicle or shift it in neutral. The car start button would not turn off the vehicle and had to be towed running and the battery disabled at the dealership.

5 Car Stall problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 02/05/2018

While driving to the dealership to get my car serviced for nearly stalling at a stop light my car engine kept turning on and off and revving up and down randomly. I was in electric mode and the engine should not have been coming on. The car's speed randomly fluctuated as the engine randomly revved up and down. I pulled in to a grocery store parking lot where my car died. Before dying the gas range indicator changed from 87 miles to 'low fuel'. I called the dealership to have my car towed. After 16 days I got my car back. The dealership replaced the engine control module twice. The first replacement failed within a 1 mile test drive by the mechanic.

9 Car Stall problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 04/23/2015

My car stalled on the freeway ramp with engine warning reported on the dashboard. The issue was identified to be due to engine propulsion and transmission failure and they would have factory technician replace/rebuild all related components as a preventative maintenance/repair. Later they said that they found that the replaced part had again failed during overnight test and they were repairing the car again. I am concerned that this is a safety issue with the car stalling in the freeway and the component seems to fail easily as demonstrated by the repair that failed again in the dealers shop floor. This issue with Volt needs to be investigated before lives are lost due to improper design/component.

12 Car Stall problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 06/17/2013

I leased a new 2013 Volt on Friday and drove it to work and home on Monday. The battery display showed it was at minimum, zero miles remaining. The Volt was running with the internal combustion engine. As I pulled out of a parking lot, "¿propulsion power is reduced", "¿engine not available", and "service stabilitrac" displayed on the driver information center. After going about 500 feet, I stopped at an intersection to make a left turn and the Volt stalled. I turned on the flashers and attempted to restore power by pressing the brake and the power button. The displays lit up but the instrument cluster continued to display "¿initializing-wait to shift". I turned the Volt off by pressing the power button again and attempted to restore power several times with the same result. Cars behind me were attempting to pull around on the left side but were blocked by cars turning onto the two-lane street. I pushed the on-star button and requested assistance. Soon, a Volt specialist came on the line and said she suspected the security system or the 12v battery. She had me turn everything off and walk 200 feet from the car. When I returned and tried to start the Volt, it started briefly but shut down. She said the 12v battery might be low and they would have the tow truck driver bring booster cables to charge the battery. I had managed to push the Volt to the curb and got some cables to boost it. The Volt initialized and the displays looked normal. I drove to the next intersection and stopped for the light. When the light changed, it stalled again. I was able to continue to my house on battery power but it would not go up the slope of the driveway. I tried to charge it but the charge cycle would not start. The next morning, it had "¿plug in to charge" light on. I started the charge cycle. It goes to the dealer tonight.

I was slowing down at a merge point, when vehicle "stalled". I and dealer worker could not restart for 45 minutes, at which time it finally started. Drove to dealership, checked out briefly, seemed ok. Drove it again less than a mile, and for 2nd time, again stalled for approx. 45 min. Car couldn't be started. Finally car responded and drove 2nd time to dealer, where it was left for analysis and possible repair. Car purchased Aug. 30 2011, incident sept. 1, beginning 7-8am. Car is now in dealer's hands for possible repair. Chevrolet Volt hybrid extremely dangerous situation if car stalls in major intersection or at high speed on highway. Defective component battery, engine, computer??.
