Leasing 2019 chevy Volt from dgdg chevy: end of September -- major safety issue (brakes): end of September 2019, the vehicle had limited brake power (check engine light on and traction control disabled). When braking, the car makes very loud (system noise) and skids while braking. After nearly crashing the car couple of times in the highway (due to very poor braking), car was turned into chevy dgdg and problem was confirmed. Car was returned back second week of October and initial issues went away. First week of December 2019 -- more brake problems / risk to drivers brake issue had returned (limited brake power; skids while braking, makes loud beeping noise, check engine light on/traction control off). I bought it back to the same dealership, after nearly rear ending few cars due to the malfunction of the brake. Issue was confirmed and was in the shop for over 70days+. Car was returned after replacing the brake system. First week of February 2020, same issue occurred after less than week of receiving my car back (took more than 70days in the shop). Same issue, brakes are not functioning properly, almost rear ended someone again, as a result of it. Shop is taking a look at it again. I'm writing this report in hopes of gaining attention of this major safety issue which is putting my life, and others at risk, working with chevy. I have the fear that this problem can occur again, based on previous attempts, and no real resolution.

The car will shut itself off with very little time to get to the side of the road if that is even a possibility. When switching from battery power to the gas motor. Randomly. The car will die at any speed. First message is low propulsion power. Next message engine not available, service soon. Less than 4 minutes from 1st message to total shut down. Least amount of time between messages and shut down is 15 seconds. Car will decelerate (on highway where vehicles behind have no warning. . . No brake lights that car is rapidly losing speed). Never know when it will happen. Usually car will restart and run terrible. . After 20 minutes or so. After restart car runs bad low power. Check engine light is on. After 10 more minutes of driving. It straightens out. Usually. Dealership unable to find problem. Assorted codes in computer. Very dangerous when driving. Especially when it happens and it is 15 seconds to complete shut down. I have opened a case with Chevrolet. No response as of yet. They were supposed to call within 2 days. I will upload an attempt at restart as it is the only one I have where I was safely in a parking lot when it happened. Usually I am not. And many roads in my area do not have a shoulder.

A warning message appeared on the dash, which said "propulsion power is reduced," followed by, "engine not available. Service soon," as well as a check engine light. I pressed the onstar button to find out what was wrong but they had never heard of the error message and could not establish communication with the vehicle to perform diagnostics. While on hold with onstar, the vehicle began to spontaneously decelerate very rapidly despite my attempts to accelerate, in the middle of fast highway traffic. I made it over to the side of the road safely, limping along at 3-10 mph, with the help of a good samaritan who blocked traffic for me. This is a spontaneous occurrence, with no maintenance negligence to explain the event. The car was towed to a dealer, which has yet to determine the source of the issue.

Driving using cruise control during commute at 60mph. Simultaneously experienced drastic power loss and check engine light. Onstar diagnostics reported an electrical propulsion system malfunction. Attempted to navigate to a safe parking area but eventually lost all propulsion and ended up in a traffic lane. Significant impact to control especially in highway traffic that nearly resulted in a collision.
The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Volt. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated intermittently. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the problem. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 5,492.
