2 Software problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 11/19/2019

Purchased car 5-31-12-received gm's 19 recall to reprogram hpcm to eliminate ppr some vehicles had. Prior to service no issues. Coolants replaced same time. Service done 11-19-19 by ourisman rockmont @ 141,301~85% ev, with negative impact. Range now to 28~32 miles/chg, 8. 1-8. 3 kwh consumed, prior 36-38 miles/chg 9. 7-9. 9 kwh@60-75f. Eng now runs randomly @ temps btw 40-65f. Called gm,complained assigned case#9-56696768626&taylor@866-790-5600x5916129. Multi msgs b4 call returned. Advice-return to dealer, did on 12-5-19 told car functioning correctly. Called gm voiced discontent w/car since recall service. Told gm relies on dealer techs to determine if car is functioning correctly. Per advisor's rec, took 3rd trip to dealer. Dealer rep stated car was working correctly, said he had complaints from others after recall work, engine running due to low temp, batteries & range deteriorate over time. Requested car be returned pre-recall state, told not an option. Expected battery deterioration from start, didn't expect gm/dealer to break car, causing 2 happen in 1 day. Previously eng ran at 24f w/screen showing running due to temp. No screen now. Car speed drops when engine engages, safety issue on busy roads. Wrote gm 5/20 & dealer 11/2020,no reply. Car driven <6k mi in 20 due to these issues. Don't trust gm/dealer to fix car. Gm sends me to dealer says car performing correctly. Car no longer chrgs, indicates chg system service required. After 2 trips to gm dealer, still not working, told battery may need replacing. If so damage done by gm dealer & gm hpcm2 update. Told in 19 by ourisman rep update fixed battery cell rebalancing issue. Since hpcm2 reprogramming my cars performance fundamentally changed & safety issue when engine engages. Gm should recall vehicles, fix them making owners whole since it is their software & dealer service technicians who created safety issue.

3 Software problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 02/17/2019

Vehicle dies suddenly while moving, although under full electric charge. Could not restart. Chevy said was software problem and made fix Dec 2018. Just happened again yesterday 2/17. Others reported on Volt blog site. Said wait 5-10 minutes and then restart, which I did and that worked. Concern that loss of power is sudden and without warning. Died in middle of intersection this time but fortunately no cross traffic. This is serious problem -- apparently others have had same issue. Reporting to local chevy dealer at this time.

4 Software problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 07/28/2017

Air bag sensor and computer system malfunction the driver side sensor at times malfunction and so the software disable the air bag system as a whole. The service air bag message comes on for few minutes and then disappears assuming everything is ok. Took it to the dealer and they informed me that I need to change whole airbag sensor kit and would cost me more than 1300 dollars. This should be a recall as this relates to safety.

5 Software problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 04/01/2014

Letter from constituent regarding his wife 2013 Chevrolet Volt, who having issues with the hvac system not cooling the rear seats when the temperature was near 100 degrees; requesting that gm accept the return of the vehicle and purchase price be refunded. The consumer stated the windows would fog up whenever humidity was present, the navigation system, was reading the vehicle was in detroit, the re-generative braking system and acceleration had downgraded after the last software update.

6 Software problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 11/11/2013

The car's electrical / software issues caused (1) all of the windows to roll down in unison (in for repair 3 times to fix this one), (2) caused the car to not recognize that it was in "park", thus not shutting off, and (3) caused the car to lose power without touching any of the buttons on the console (I. E. The "drive" button or the "power" button). The latest incident occurred last Friday (August 1, 2014) when the car just lost power while I was driving at 65 mph on I-85 north at around 4:00pm. I had to get over from 4 lanes of traffic with no power at all in the car and luckily did so without incident. Onstar's diagnostics showed that the electrical system, braking system, engine, and other parts of the car showed the car needed immediate attention. I put the car in park and while still with onstar the dashboard lit up and the power button lit up too. I hit the power button and drove straight to the rick hendrick chevy dealership in duluth. When I went to pick the car up later Saturday morning, I was told that there's nothing they car do because they can't recreate the problem. They have reflashed various ecus, but at the end of the day cannot "recreate" the problems and cannot fix them. So they just wipe their hands clean of these issues and act like they don't exist. (the service manager actually called me "ignorant" once and later apologized. ) I pray it doesn't take people dying in these cars before Chevrolet and/or general motors does something to fix them.

7 Software problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 10/14/2013

As an electric vehicle, when running on battery, it is difficult to know when the vehicle is left running. Upon returning home one day, I exited the vehicle and plugged it in. I didn't realize at the time, that I had not turned off the Volt by pressing the blue power switch on the dashboard. The next morning, I came into my enclosed garage and could hear the Volt's gas powered generator running. I looked at the dash display and could see the Volt had not charged, had used up all remaining battery, and had been running on gas generator for some time. My concern is regarding carbon dioxide poisoning risks. I have tried over the past 60 days to get a response out of gm as a Volt owner and I feel they are stonewalling me as they have not responded to me on this concern despite three different inquiries on my behalf. This is very unusual for gm who normally is quite responsive. I propose if the vehicle can sense it is plugged in that it should shut down should the battery become depleted rather than turn on the gas generator to keep the car running. I'm confident gm can detect the car is plugged in so programmatically I'm not understanding the challenge to solve this safety issue. Electric cars are not like other cars in that you can't hear when they are on. Chances are, if the vehicle is plugged in it's in a garage. No gm employee who I have spoken with has explained why it's reasonable to run the generator in the scenario I have described. I do hope no one dies before this issue is resolved. It should be a simple software update for the Volt to resolve the issue.
