While driving 25 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed and the vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed and jerked. The contact immediately depressed the brake pedal, but the vehicle failed to slow down. As a result, the contact rear ended another vehicle. The contact's head struck the driver side window and she was knocked unconscious. The contact was awakened by eyewitnesses hitting the window to alert her to exit the vehicle as the cabin filled with smoke. The contact mentioned that the air bags deployed and she felt a burning sensation on her left leg. The contact was unaware if fire was present as she was transported away by ambulance. The contact sustained fractures to her left and right feet and ankles, as well as third degree burs on her left leg, bruises to her ribs, sternum, and left shoulder. The contact was unaware if there were injuries to the other vehicle occupants. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was deemed a total loss. The contact stated that the vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic, but was unaware of the diagnosis.
