Steering Problems of Chrysler 200 - part 2

While driving the power steering. Goes out and it gives "power steering unavailable" plus traction control and other warning lights come on. This happened several times all of which the vehicle was moving, including several times when driving on freeway. I have also had the car suddenly lose all power and I had to restart the car. This happened as exiting the freeway. Have been unable to get an answer as to what is causing this to occur.

The car has to much torque that the vehicle slides and loses control and almost caused an accident. The steering is to lose when I turn it moves to quick and the movement of the vehicle can't catch up.

After a few months of having dtc come up for evap and misfire then disappear just a quick as it came up, my vehicle has recently began stalling out while driving, specifically while decelerating or idling. The battery was replaced 2 years ago and tests good every time, as does the alternator, starter, wires, connectors and sensors. Nobody can find any dtc on the obdii or anything else. It's easy to replicate but impossible to decide why. I've talked to the dealership about possible recalls from 2012 concerning the pcm as well as chatted with a few people on the Chrysler website and nobody wants to help. This is a very serious situation, as I can prove with video from my dash cam and back up cam. The people on the Chrysler website were very rude, and the dealership was not willing to stand behind the product either without charging $300 just to diagnose. Car has shut off while driving last few weeks. It happened. As soon as I turned onto a road, going 20-30 mph, it has happened while trying to merge onto the freeway. The car just stalls, says "place in p to start" and then dies. The gearshift and wheel lock up and you have to turn the car off and attempt to restart. Each time I had to try at least 3 times to get the car restarted. All lights come on dash, battery light included, but had battery checked and it is fine. Trying to restart, it doesn't want to turn over. This has happened with several cars behind me and have almost been rear ended because of it. Took it to the dealship but, all they told me to do was track my oil changes but, the problem still remains.

As I entered onto the freeway, my car turned off. Lights began to blink repeatedly. I lost total control of steering. I could not pull over or stop immediately. All this while still in drive. I was able to put the car in park. I attempted to atart the engine, it took several seconds but started. I was terrified.

As I am driving the parkway going about 60 mph my car with out any warning started with flashing red on the dashboard. The temperature gauge started going from hot to cold and the engine symbol flashed on dash board. I was in the left hand lane with a significant amount of traffic passing me. Within 2-3 minutes as I started to go down hill the dash flashed steering will be disabled, then autobrading with be disabled. The radio at this point shut off and it was difficult to steer the car. There was little acceleration when I tried to give it gas to keep with the pace of the other vehicles attempting to move to the side of the road. I put my hazardous flashers on but because I did not have a dash board screen I was sure they were working everything electrical seemed to be off. I finally made it to the side of the road and the car went about 3 feet and stopped. I was not able to put the car in park once I got to the side of the road. It was difficult for the tow company to pull the vehicle because the wheels were locked and they had to use special equipment.

I am asking you to issue a safety recall on my vehicle. You investigated the 2015 model for the same issue and it was recalled as a result. The 2016 is just as dangerous. Is there a reason why the lives of people who drive 2015 models are more valuable than mine or my children? it turns off while driving with no warning and leaves me in the middle of intersections! the steering cuts off too. I have to first struggle to control the steering, shift into park, push start, and wait, while I brace myself for the impact that is about to shatter my spine or kill my children! it began as soon as I hit 60k miles a few weeks ago and happens every time I drive it. It happens mostly when I am turning, sometimes when braking for a light, and sometimes it doesn't actually turn off, it just seems like it is suddenly in neutral and makes revving sounds when I hit gas but wont go, that's when message says 'service transmission'. I was making a u turn and almost hit a pole! it may start up with first try, or a few tries. It hasn't happened in high speeds on highway but that may be because I am too afraid to go that route anymore. Obviously this is a manufacturing defect. I paid cash for this vehicle and should not have to pay a penny to fix this, but if I or mine are injured I will spend every cent I have on a lawsuit. My Chrysler 200 was purchased about two months ago since I purchased it from florida and I reside in alabama I was told by the local dealership in mobile that they could not diagnose or repair it because they have no history. My car is randomly stalling and loosing all power to engine when attempting to stop or slow down there is no codes on dashboard. Pcm was replaced still same issue. It is very likely this will cause an accident especially because there is no warning. It cut off tonight on my way home from work while I was driving at 35mph. This is dangerous.

Driving 60 mph on highway, car shuts down completely. Not first time and happens every couple of months. Dealership acts as if they don't know how to fix problem. I am a single mother with 2 young children riding in this car. Does one of us have to risk dying or serious injury for Chrysler to acknowledge or fixed this problem.

I have a 2016 Chrysler 200 and of you are a quart low the vehicle has a sensor which tells the vehicle to shut off it don't matter we're you are at and you can only go 1800 to 2000 miles till it burns that quart off so when the vehicle dies the power steering is turned off and the steering wheel locks so there is no way to get off the road you have to stop the car and put in park to start again I called the manufacturer and they told me that means so safty is working properly so they can't do anything but to me that seems like a safty hazard to anyone in the car to get rear ended or in a intersection.

My vehicle shut down on the highway at a high rate of speed (70mph). My steering was also not working at the time. Was able to finally pull over. Restarted the vehicle and it was fine. This is very dangerous.

In July 2019, my 2013 Chrysler 200, that I purchased brand new in 2014 just stopped. Wouldn't go forward or backward. I was stuck in the middle of the road on a steep hill. I went from 45 mph to nothing without any warning. No warning lights ever came on and the car wasn't acting any different than it had the million times I had taken it to the dealership for it being jerky when taking off. They repeatedly told me there were no issues found and the car was fine. I was and still am the soul owner of this car that didn't even have 85,000 miles on it. I spoke with Chrysler several times about my warranty and the now bad transmission. They told me to take it to the closest Chrysler dealership. Which I had it towed there since the car was no longer drivable. I was contacted a few days later by the service department telling me it was, in fact the transmission and would need a new transmission. This car was out of warranty by 30 days give or take and was still under warranty by miles. But since it's an either-or warranty, I was now out of a car that I had paid almost $30,000 for, unless I wanted to go in half with Chrysler and pay them an additional $2113. 44 to replace or fix the current transmission. The transmission is a closed transmission but didn't require any service until 96,000 miles per the owner's manual. Had I had, my then 9-month-old grandson with me when the car went from 45 mph to nothing and a vehicle had been behind me, we both could have been seriously injured or even killed. The car never gave any warning that there was an issue before there was an issue. I find this completely unsatisfactory as a parent, nana, and quite frankly a human. Had I known of this website when this happened, I would have reported it then! hope you are able to make this kind of situation not happen to someone else.

While driving down the street, the car stalled. This has happened 3 times within the last 5 days. It is unknown as to why this is happening, but the car stalling while driving in the flow of traffic, is a safety risk. During this time, the car would not shift into neutral, and after pressing the start button again, the car starter was continually trying to turn over and start, but didn't. After getting assistance, the car was finally pushed out of the middle of the street from it's stalled position. After getting pushed to a parked position, it finally started, but I didn't want to take the chance of it stalling again, since this has happened three times now.

My 2015 Chrysler 200c all-wheel drive 3. 6 l v6 has randomly had bouts of stiffness/lack of normal tension in my steering usually when going to turn hut has happened at other times as well like when changing lanes! also I've noticed a clicking/creaking break pedal that will sporadically get severly stiff and when depressed does not slow the vehicle or it will click and sink like the pedal bbn is going to fall through my floor board while I'm trying to break at any speed! this should be illegal I should not be stuck with the $20,000 bill and have my children riding around in a car that doesn't want to break or steer properly and I've had multiple mechanics look at it and they say everything's just fine with it of course they think that because it's not a consistent problem it just so happens to go out same with many other things on my vehicle which makes me wonder if it's not electrical either way I don't care what the cause is if you can't fix it or if it's going to cause me not be able to steer or brake properly with my children in the car we all deserve our money back because this is not safe and these cars should have never been released to the market!.

2015 Chrysler 200s transmission failures. Numerous times the gear would slip from drive to neutral while at stoplights. The dashboard would instruct me to shift into park the choose desired gear. That's if I'm lucky and the shift knob doesn't lock, preventing me from shifting into park or any other. Numerous times it has disengaged from drive to neutral while driving on the highway at speeds ranging from 55 mph to 70 mph. Having find a way to the shoulder with no power while activating the hazard lights has proven quite disturbing to maneuver through traffic. Several times it has slipped out of drive while going through intersections leaving me disabled in the middle of busy roads at the mercy of oncoming traffic, hoping they brake in time. It has nearly been the cause of several wrecks having loss of power, steering wheel becomes hard to turn and I've nowhere to turn off of road for lack of shoulder or curbs creating obstacles. Regardless of where it occurs , if the shift knob is locked, the car is not budging. It is locked in the transmission preventing any way of pushing it. I can't drive my son anywhere for fear it could result in something I'd rather not think of.

Car has serv awd light on had one shot replace a motor on the outside of the transfer case but the problem came back when shifting from drive to sport next I brought it to Chrysler and they replaced the sensor near the motor that was previously replaced and it didn't fix anything they still don't know what's wrong with it. My car jerks forward mid breaking in the rpm surge also my transmission is slow to downshift in the first three gears I believe it is and loses compression when going up some hills power to this vehicle as in the torque or horsepower is very inconsistent sometimes it feels sluggish other times it just wants to go . Shops report brake surge is normal. Also had sporatic hard pedal, master cylinder is ok. Brake pedal clicks and feels unstable. The steering rack feels loose and dangerous like its going to fall through the floor. Brake pedal arms rusted cars only 5 years old with 60,000 miles on it with no prior flood damage.

Going down the highway the electrical system shut down. This made steering, and braking almost impossible. All the gauges, lights, and wipers also went off. After coasting to the side of the highway and turning the key to the off position, was able to restart the auto. The auto shows no vehicle codes when connected to a scanner.

While driving my vehicle back the office from my lunch break, I made a right hand turn onto the main road and began to accelerate the vehicle with more gas. At about 35mph the car engine completely shut off and I had to coast to the side of the road with no power steering. I had to wait approximately 20 mins until my car would restart again. I was able to get back on the road until after another few hundred yards of driving the car stalled again completely. I was then forced to call a tow truck to have it taken to an auto shop.

Sudden stall on the highway, completely died on the slop of the beginning of the bridge on April 4,2019 and April 11, 2019.

The car engine keeps on stalling while it is in motion. The car suddenly stops while I am driving it. There are no warning lights, visual cues or sounds to indicate any problem. As a result, the car's power steering becomes inoperable. The speed of the car varies at the time of each incident. Each time this incident has happened, the car has become disabled in the middle of the street. There have been 5 incidents this past month. So far, the car has been able to restart after putting the car in park and after a couple of attempts of pushing the start button along with stepping on the brakes. It usually takes a couple of minutes. During that time, my car is in the middle of the street and in traffic. I have had my children in the car during some of these incidents. It is an extreme safety risk.

During driving in the rain the battery light comes on the steering wheel locks into place then after complete stop steering is back. The check engine light comes on and the thermostat rises to the maximum then that light comes on. Then after 5min or so temp goes back down both engine and temp lights go off but battery light stays on until car is turned off. This only happens when it's heavily raining.

While driving the vehicle stalls and shuts off, no lights on dash. 5 days later same stall issue now engine light and electrical light are coming on too.

Takata recall I have had my Chrysler 2015 200 for 3 years and since I've had my car it has always had an issue with accelerating on its on. It accelerates when you tap the breaks and it will accelerate on its on taking it off cruise control as well. So last week my car was being driven on the highway and the car was put on cruise control going about 60-65 mph then once the brake was tapped to slow down the car began to lock up and accelerate up to 90 mph. Then after the car picked up speed the whole car locked up steering wheel would not turn or anything and the car ended up hitting a wall. The state of what cause the issue is unknown, however I think this issue should be taken further for an investigation.

While in motion the vehicle will shut down - steering wheel locks, brakes dont brake, no sensor lights. Vehicle starts after 30+ mins but no mechanic can locate the problem due to no sensor lights. This is a major health issue when the vehicle stalls in high traffic areas and can't be moved. At this time, it has happened on 3 occassions within a two week span.

Car will not start when pushing the button. Replaced batteries key fob. Still not c ok ming on with ignition push button. All lights, windows, dash lights are working so battery is not dead. Have found hundreds of people online with some issue from this year make and model!!!.

The car accelerates and if I hit a bump or anything in the road my car will start to sway back and forth and has actually spun me around in a 360 motion on more than one occasion. Sometimes you dont even have to go over a bump or anything it just shakes and sways. It does it on any roadway, any condition. Its a death trap. I have almost been in very bad accidents 3 times because I lost comtrol because of the swaying. Once was a near head on with and 18 wheeler. Chrysler need to do something about these cars.

The contact owns a 2016 Chrysler 200. While driving various speeds, the electronic stability control warning indicator suddenly illuminated. When the failure occurred while making a right turn, the steering wheel would erroneously turn to the left. The contact also mentioned that the failure occurred when making a left turn. Three times in the last two weeks my car has turned off completely while driving. Each time it has happened as I was braking. Took several minutes to get the car re-started and left me stranded dangerously in the middle of the road. There has already been a recall for this exact issue which my car has been serviced for and yet it is still happening.

Takata recall; while driving through heavy traffic on a Sunday afternoon a warning light appears on the dash screen: power steering unavailable, need service soon. Suddenly the steering wheel lock up and wouldn't turn. I cruise the car to the traffic light waiting for it to turn red in order to turn the ignition off. When the traffic light turn green I turn the ignition back on but suddenly the warning light came back on and again I wasn't able to steer the car over to the next lane it froze up. Traffic was heavy and a large truck was driving behind me blowing his horn for me to speed up or get out of the way but I could not steer the car over. I put on the emergency lights and try hard to steer the car until I reach another traffic light to turn off the ignition. When reaching the red light I turn off the ignition and turn it back on at the green light. The warning light went off again and the steering wheel turned a little better for me to cruise the car in the right hand lane to the nearest shop. I was about 15 miles from home and able to steer the car in a straight lane to drive slow with my amber lights bleeping. Then I notice a firestone was open, the steering wheel was lock up again so I jerk it as hard as I can to steer it into the parking lot. This was a dangerous situation and thanks god for his protection because this could have cause a lot of people lives. Firestone examine my vehicle and explain what they felt the problem was; electrical, and I had to leave the vehicle to diagnose the problem. The following day they explain to me that it could be my battery so they replace the battery still no success. Call the following day and asked if they believe they could repair the car and the manager was honest and said no because it's a safety issue, the parts that is needed is out of stock and the car have to be taken to a dealership. Possible a recall.

Driving down highway and car shut off. The dash lights went out but control lights stayed on. Took 3 attempts to start again. 2nd time this has happened.

While in motion my car has stopped running on 5 different times, 3 out of the 5 times I was in crusie control driving on the hwy when I lost all control. The other 2 times was in town at a low speed. Car is on but wont go any where, its stuck in drive the alarms and several lights on the dash come on rpm will rum up to about 2000 but still wont do anything else. Transmission has been shifting hard and driving hard, quite a bit had it serviced 3times, transmission had to be replaced there was a hole in it that came from internal. Air bag wiring harnas had to be replaced as well, head light harnest had to be replaced due to wires were shorting out my battery, igintion had to be replaced as well due to the wiring and program.

Just purchased my 2013 Chrysler 200 on 01/20/2018 from a used car dealer pre owned with 76590 miles on it today is 3/13/2018 and I was driving down the road on a busy road and first my check engine light came on and then the car accelerated on its on and then the car warning lights came on blinking red and the other light steady yellow and the car stalled in traffic luckily I was able to pull over out of the road and not hit by another car this is a very serious issue and I urge you to please look at this matter this is not good someone could have been hurt not being able to control my car it is not fixed yet and I spent a lot of money to purchase this car so please adress as quickly as you can to this matter thanks.

The vehicle was taken to the thomas Dodge Chrysler Jeep ram dealer (219-924-6100, located at 9604 indianapolis blvd, highland, in 46322) where the technician diagnosed that the air bag and the steering wheel control module needed to be repaired. The contact was sent back to the independent mechanic that sold the vehicle to the contact. The independent mechanic told the contact that the vehicle was sold as it was and referred the contact to a muffler shop to repair the air bag and the steering wheel. The contact stated that the air bag and the steering were repaired but the contact was not told what was done to repair the failures. The failure recurred a month later. The contact called the dealer back and was told to go back to the seller. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000. Fe.
