2005 Chrysler 300 touring 70,000 miles the car gets stuck in park. Looking on the internet it looks like alot of 300's are doing the same thing. We have a 2007 Chrysler sebring that did the same thing but it was covered under a recall. Why isn't the 300 covered under the same recall?.
The shifter on my 2005 Chrysler 300 broke resulting in the inability to put the vehicle in park. There has been thus far no recall on the vehicle even though there were numerous complaints on the internet and the Dodge stratus and avenger have already been recalled for the exact problem. Chrysler dealership replaced the part for $282. 00.

I was driving down the street when the car slowed down even though the rpm's went up as I tried to accelerate. I brought the car in and the valve pump in the transmission was replace. One week later the car failed again in the same manner. The second time I had to have the transmission replaced. Had the traffic been different or someone with less experience been driving, it could have easily resulted in a fatality or injury. There was no way a driver could avoid an accident from the rear at that point.
I drove my Chrysler 300 home a parked in my garage. The next day I could not shift it out of park. 11/18/10, I had it towed to a Chrysler dealer and they replaced the gear shift assembly. I was informed that the dealer replace four to five per week and that the town of 7000 people 12 Chrysler 300 had the same problem and that one lady was on her third replacement. The closest dealer is 40 miles and the tow charge is $125. I contacted Chrysler and was informed that there has not been enough problems for a recall. Apparently they don't look at the internet.

My Chrysler 300 gear shift sticks in park.
About 6 months ago, my gear shift started "sticking" in park. Would not go into reverse without a lot of coaxing. What I did was to keep pumping the brakes and after about 10 or so pumps, the gear shift would release. More recently, my car will just die even when I am going over 40 mph. Most of the time, I can just shift it into nuetral and restart it. I am not sure of what the outcome would be if I were perhaps going around a corner since the power steering goes out when this occurs. Actually as I think about it, it also did this when it was brand new, when I took it to the dealership they said there was no record of it on the computer therefore they could not fix it.
The contact owns a 2005 Chrysler 300. The contact started the vehicle and the gear selector would not shift from the park position. The vehicle was repaired by a certified mechanic. One year later, the identical failure recurred. The vehicle had not been repaired for the most recent failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was unknown.
I have never had a problem with my Chrysler 300 up until this morning as I started my car for work. My car was stuck in "park". As I researched this deficiency online it I noticed that it has been an ongoing occurrence with Chryslers of all type. I called many Chrysler dealerships and found that this is a problem that has been repaired on a normal basis. My complaint is there is no recall on this deficiency and this is costing consumer too much money that we don't have to spend on this. I have my car serviced regularly so this should have not happened.
Vehicle was parked in drivewaythe previous day. On date below, the vehicle was started to leave and the transmission shift lever would not come out of park. The vehicle is equipped with an emergency release button in the shift console and that would not release the shifter. Tow truck had to be called.
Without any warning the gear shift would not move out of park. I had the vehicle towed to the shop and found that I had to replaced the gear shifter component in my Chrysler 300 vehicle. I later found out that this part has been recalled on other Dodge and chrsyler vehicles, but not on mine. Now today my car is showing symptoms that the gear boc may be failing again. The key will not come out of the ignition because the gear is not go holding property in park. I am going to take the car to a Chrysler dealership and see if Chrysler will fix it. I repaired the vehicle less than 5 months ago.
I parked my car in my work parking lot. When I went out at the end of the day I was unable to get the car out of park. With motor running & brake applied there was still no release. I was forced to call a tow truck. The tow truck driver informed me he had towed 10 Chrysler 300 that day for the exact same problem.
Transmission stuck in park, towed to dealer 9/24/09 part 4578029ac shifter no recall noted this happened on 9/21/07 same issue same part; complaint filed then too no recall noted.
I have a Chrysler 300 that within the last 25,000. 00 miles has had the shifter fail twice. This has resulted in the inability of the car to be shifted out of park to any gear. I have found this issue reported on numerous websites which leads me to believe that my failure is not an isolated case. Chrysler has repaired the shifter both times ( once under warranty and once out ) but I feel that the part as basic as a shifter should not fail and poses a safety issue to the consumer since the failure completely immobilizes the car .
My husband and I were traveling south on i5 just merging into i99 just south of bakersfield California when the car lurched to a almost total halt. We were able to coast to the shoulder. This occurred about 6:00pm. We didn't arrive home until after 10:00pm having been towed over the hill to santa clarita. Needless to say having our vehicle lose power like that on crowded fast freeway was extremely hazardous.
Gear shift on 2005 Chrysler 300 touring malfunctioned. Couldn't remove from park position and at times had difficulty putting car in park. Tried to use the manual to release. Information in manual stated by depressing pink button next to gear shift would release gear from park position; but did not work. My husband is a certified technician and stated that the pink button was not connected to anything; but he was able to release it by taking apart the console to expose the main release so that we would not incurr a $150 towing cost. The vehicle was then taken to ganley/Dodge/Chrysler dealer and the entire gear shift had to be replaced; but they could not explain why it went bad nor why this pink button was not connected nor able to release. Dealer also said that there were no recalls on this type of repair and the cost would be my responsibilty. Cost of repair approximately $375 plus the part is back ordered for approximately three (3) days. I will take vacation days from work in order to have my car repaired and will be without transportation. Need to know if this is a manufacturer's defeat since the infomation in the manual stated procedures to follow in the release but not effective and whether or not I can be reimbursed for the repairs and if I can send the original part back to the manufacturer so that a technician can honestly analyze if the part was installed properly and/or why it did not perform as indicated in the manual. Will miss time off from work and no loaner was provided or offered. I understand that repairs must be made but something that was not done by the owner should be the responsibility of the manufacuturer if this type of repair is due to the production of the vehicle. To some, this may be inexpensive; but to others with today's economic situation; there should be no need for a consumer to endure an additional expense "just because" without a justifiable explanation. Your response to this matter would be greatly appreciated.
My car is stuck in park and had to be towed to a mechanic. The mechanic told me that the part needed was part of a recall. When I called Chrysler they told me that even though there is a recall my car was not part of the batch. They stated that they pick a certain amount of cars to be part of the recall but that the other ones get omitted. I called Chrysler and they gave me a case number 17859460 and when I asked to speak to a manager they hung up on me. I don't feel that it is fair that I need to pay for the part and labor because Chrysler decided that my car was not part of the batch. Chrysler wants me to have to pay for the parts so that they can make money off of me but I feel that they need to take responsibility for something that they are in default for.
Went to start my car and it was fine. However I could not get the car to shift out of park. . I called the dealership and they told me about the pink little thing inside the gear console and that didn't' work either. Finally had the car towed and had to pay for the shift replacement about $400. 00 with no explanation on why or what happened.
The contact owns a 2005 Chrysler 300c. While driving 15 mph and making a left or right turn the transmission shifted hard into second gear. The contact heared a loud bang and the vehicle would jolt with excessive force into gear. The dealer on several occasions diagnosed the vehicle to be operating normally , and at higher speeds the driver would not experience the problem. The current mileage is 37,200.
2005 Chrysler 300's transmission hesitated when cold. The vehicle continues to hesitate/shudder until it warms up.
Car was running and in park. When the driver took his foot off the brake, the car did not move and he was able to exit the car. After the driver exited the car and had taken a few steps, the car started to reverse. The driver went back to the car and his hand got caught in between the car door and a house. Another person got into the car on the passenger side and put the car into drive to pull forward and release the driver's hand. Dcx has a recall for this, but says the vehicle was not in recall because is was built one month before the vehicles being recalled. Dcx recall number is e14 and the NHTSA number is 05v460000.
On Nov 9, 2005 I drove into my drive way and started turning to pull into the garage. My 2005c with hemi suddenly surged forward hitting my daughter's 2004 Jeep grand cherokee. Her car had damage on the rear bumper and it was knocked about 15 or 20 feet. The front of my car was torn up. The air bag did not deploy but, thankfully no one was hurt. I have contacted Chrysler about the surge and they stated they have not had any complaints. I found one on this website about the car surging. This will effect my insurance and has been a problem for my family with two cars having to be repaired. I reported to Chrysler that twice that day the car had made a revving sound but had not surged forward. This is very dangerous and now makes me unsure about driving the car again. We bought this car new from benchmark Chrysler in January. The car is being repaired at trussville Mazda who does repair work for benchmark. They told us when it is repaired they will take it to benchmark to be checked out for defects. After reading the complaints on this message board I am not sure that will be of any value but, I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt until I hear from them. Does anyone know of a recall or similar happenings?.
I left my car running on park for a few minutes in front of my house, the car engaged it self in gear, drove itself in the garage and crashed. I have a video security system and the camera shows the car fully stopped for about 50 seconds and then it takes off. I called Chrysler, they sent an investigator and all he did was check to see if the car can be put in drive with out stepping on the brakes. I received a letter from Chrysler stating that they could not find anything wrong with my car, and that it is illegal to leave a car running unattended in the state of florida.
The consumer had difficulty placing the vehicle into park. At times it rolled backward. The vehicle was taken to the dealership and they replaced a pin. The pin was not allowing the vehicle to stay in park. While driving the vehicle switched from drive to the neutral position. This caused the vehicle not to go anywhere. The vehicle was taken back to the dealership. They have not heard of this problem before, and have been unable to duplicate the problem. Updatd 12/07/05.
Shifter failure.
The contact stated that there was an intermittent electrical transmission problem . While driving at any speed the service engine light will illuminate, and the transmission will shift into the lowest gear. The service dealer made four attempts to repair the vehicle. They did mention a service bulletin in regard to this problem. The dealership and the manufacturer advised him to continue to drive the vehicle until it happened again so that they could duplicate the problem. The contact stated that if he continued to drive the vehicle it would put him at a safety risk.
2005 Chrysler 300 touring sedan shifted into reverse with no operator action while traveling forward. This has happened twice. There has been no accident but the potential for serious accidents exist if this is a generic problem with the vehicle. Vehicle has been taken to dealer for repair.
