1 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/19/2013

I am the original owner w/o having the experience of the 300c stalling while depressing the accelerator previously. The car now stalls 3 to 4 times after refueling. I have purchased high-octane gas from the same vendor since 2004 w/ no issues. My mechanic thought it might be residue from the gas tank given the vehicle age or an air bubble because I let the tank get to ~ 2 gallons. Mechanic could not find any codes indicating issues. The car now stalls w/I a minute of refueling while taking my foot off the accelerator several times between station & home. The car will not start in n, it has to be in p. Typically the next day after refueling the car is fine, fortunately I did not make it to the highway when my car stalled requiring the more than 2 turns of the key in p. Again no readings on autoscanner that I purchased because time/$ prohibit going to mechanic constantly. My son is learning to drive and teaching a 16 year old how to operate a stalled vehicle with no steering is difficult. Upon stalling, the car brakes are the only option of controlling the vehicle. I hope Chrysler finds a fix because this car has been very reliable.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. The technician stated the fuel tank would have to be replaced. The failure occurred three different times. The approximate failure mileage was 121,651.

4 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2012

Car stalls 4-6 times after fillup. The first time it happened I stalled on a busy street during rush hours traffic. I was almost hit twice. I ended up coasting into gas station where I called aaa as I was afraid to continue home. It has happened 7 times since then. The last time I was entering the freeway. I went to dealer, they said they didn't know what the problem was. Its obvious that they did. Many 2005 Chrysler 300c owners are experiencing the same problem. Chrysler is not stepping up to the plate and fixing this well known problem. Does someone have to die before the problem is addressed. They are telling people all kinds of things including charging for replacing the gas tank. This is definitely a defect that needs to be addressed. I cant believe they are getting away with this after charging over 40k for this car.

5 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2011

My wife filled up her Chrysler 300c on Aug 3 2011 and when she got to the post office about 1 mile it died she got it restarted and drove home then it died again in the driveway we thought it was bad gas so I checked with the gas station he checked his tanks and all was good now it happenss when ever she fills it up this did not start until the car had 65000 miles on it we are going to try not filling it up all the way to see if it stops happening but I am not holding my breath.

6 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2011

When I filled up my 2005 Chrysler with gas on Jan. 9th with the tank just 1/2 full at the time, I didn't even make it out of the gas station and it killed on me. Then I restarted it and within 2 blocks it killed again losing all power to the car. I have filled up twice since then, with the gas tank being at 1/4-1/2 full each time. It has stalled out each time, twice within 2 blocks of each other. Right before it kills, it chugs and lurches and then just quits running. The last time was yesterday, Jan. 18th. This time I was almost hit from behind as I pulled to the side of the road and put on my hazard lights.

8 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2009

Automobile stalls every time after fill-up. This is a known problem that is being ignored by manufacturer. Many references to this problem on reputable message boards. No accident yet, but repeated stalling with difficulty starting after stall is very dangerous. Only happens after fuel tank is filled.

9 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2008

The contact owns a 2005 Chrysler 300. While driving 35 mph, the vehicle hesitated and shut off. The contact had just fueled the vehicle. He was able to restart it and continued driving. The failure occurred each time fuel was placed in the vehicle. After the fourth time of taking the vehicle to the dealer, he was informed that the gas tank needed to be replaced. The contact believes that the failure was caused by a manufacturer defect, but they refused any responsibility. The VIN was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 35,000.

10 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/16/2007

I have a 2005 Chrysler 300c with a potential catastrophic defect. During a routine service check, I informed the service manager that I detected an odor of gasoline at the rear of the car. During the inspection, I was informed that the gas tank was leaking from the seams and that he would not allow me to drive the vehicle until the gas tank was replaced at my expense.

11 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/17/2007

The contact owns a 2005 Chrysler 300. After filling up the gas tank, the vehicle stalled. The failure occurred three previous times. The dealer stated that they would replace the entire gas tank at the cost of $100. The failure mileage was 20,000 and current mileage was 35,800. Updated 4/21/08 the consumer stated after the fuel tank was replaced, the vehicle runs great. Updated.

12 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2006

The car stalls out at slow speeds and this is occurring shortly after filling up the gas tank or when the tank is almost empty. If you do a google search on "300c stalling" you will literally see 1000's of complaints on this issue. The fix seems to be "replace the gas tank" according to the dealer/Chrysler. If this is the case and it's a known issue, why isn't Chrysler replacing everyone's tanks. I've been in several situations that were near miss accidents entering/exiting a parking lot into busy traffic or merging onto a freeway where the car stalled and I lost all power to the steering and brakes. This has happened several times since I owned the car (which I bought brand new) but at the time I thought maybe it was just basic vapor lock. As it turns out, that's not the case. This is a serious safety issue as you can imagine what could happen if you try to enter traffic from a parking lot or try to merge onto a freeway from an onramp and the car stalls out. Chrysler isn't stepping up to the plate to resolve this matter. To make matters worse, it seems only the original or early models of the vehicle are having this issue and likely all of them are out of warranty so there's no recourse to the consumer except to spend the money out of pocket for the parts and labor. The problem seems to occur when the car goes from an idle (or slow moving speed - 15/25 mph) to when you accelerate (speed at which you accelerate to is not a factor). Please advise/help.

13 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2005

Engine stalls repeatedly after filling tank. When at stop light within 1/2 mile of gas station engine quits while at stop light. Will not idle. After restart when driving the engine will sputter. Eventually engine will start running normally.
