Chrysler Aspen owners have reported 14 problems related to engine and engine cooling (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Chrysler has a major problem with their 5. 8 hemi engine. 12/16/2020 I paid $3791. 07 to replace a bad camshaft and lifters on a vehicle with only 72,768 miles. After researching this problem, I find hundreds of others having the same issues! in contacting Chrysler, they of course, refuse to accept any responsibility for this design flaw. Although this is not a safety issue, it is a major engine defect which needs to be addressed. I would be interested if anyone else has expressed their concerns about this problem and Chrysler's complete disregard.

Every time we fill the gas tank . . . The vehicle will stutter / shake when at idle or die completely at idle like at a stop sign or drive through window. It will restart after about 30 seconds. After it has been driven about 25-40 miles it stops happening. We have paid for total vehicle inspections, we have also paid $1300 to have every single problem a certified Chrysler dealership can find fixed. This did not help the problem at all and the dealership says there is absolutely nothing wrong with the SUV. This is the car our son drives and we are very concerned. We are not in a financial position to replace the vehicle and have now emptied our savings to have the vehicle completely serviced, inspected and repaired.

On may 9th 2019 the vehicles computer was giving strange alerts about tire pressure changing among all 4 tires. Also change oil alert on & off. Low gas alert on & off. When I arrived at work around 9 am & I parked the vehicle, brought my personal things into the office. I decided to use our compressed air to check all 4 wheels tire pressure. I put the car in reverse to back out of the parking space with my right foot on the brake pedal. As I was backing up the rpm's increased suddenly sending me speeding in reverse towards my work building. I looked at my foot to make sure it was on the brake & it was. I never touched the accelerator. The vehicle's speed increased in 3 seconds to over 40 mph. I backed through the corner of my building, across railroad tracks & into the neighboring building. The corner support beam of my building went through my sunroof missing my head by inches. I turned the engine off. Miraculously no one was seriously injured. The vehicle was totaled & it caused extreme damage to both buildings. I contacted an attorney but since there was no serious injury they didn't want to get involved. They said it wasn't worth it to them. I tried to reach Chrysler but never got a response. I was recently made aware of this website to file this complaint. I have a video from my work security camera it is not one of the type of files this website accepts.

After filling the fuel tank, the motor shuts off while driving down the road. It used to only happen when you go past the first "click" of the gas pump. Today it did it by just filling the tank to first shut off. This leaves you with no steering, no brakes and no power while going down the road. This is dangerous on several levels. This happened while the vehicle was moving down a four lane road in moderate traffic with five passengers-two infants, two children and one adult.
The contact owns a 2008 Chrysler Aspen. While driving approximately 25 mph, the engine warning indicator illuminated and there was a complete loss of power steering. The vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road and the engine was turned off. After restarting, the vehicle resumed normal steering function. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.
The lift gate in the back that is commonly known as the trunk the power immediately shut the door on my head and the impact did not cause the truck to go back up, I had to get from under the life gate I bumped my head in several places and was nauseated all day on Sunday with a headache I did not go to the doctor, I have moved 1000 miles away from home and felt I could not drive myself to the hospital . If it were my grandchild it would be fatal but I have moved to georgia. There are several issues with the truck including the engine light never goes off and I have had multiple repairs on the truck. I am an educated person, the treasurer for fulton county schools, I am worried that this truck is experiencing problems. I would like to be paid for this truck hitting me in my head, $ 8000 mmediately and the repairs freely fixed.
The engine light remains on constantly despite being repaired at least three times. We have been advised that it has been repaired, however, the light remains on. Two separate repair shops have worked on the issue and have been unable to get the light to turn off. We have spent substantial funds trying to repair this issue and no one is able to get light to turn off.
The car was idling while waiting to follow another vehicle. The car was then put into drive, at which point all electrical function ceased with the exception of the radio, which would not shut off. The engine also stopped running. Fortunately was able to get the car started again. I believe this is related to the recall action initiated for defective ignition switch. In September, I had stopped for gas and when I got back in the car to start it, the ignition switch would not move, as though I had an incorrect key. Again, somehow about 15 minutes later the key turned. There is a dangerous electrical malfunction occurring in this vehicle.
My family and I were driving on the highway when my 2008 Chrysler Aspen began to smoke from the engine. I had the truck towed in to the shop and was told that the engine had seized up. I only had 55000 miles on the truck with regular maintanence. I had the truck fully serviced 2 days before as we were out of town. I have been doing a lot of research on the internet and this seems to be a problem with all types of Dodge and chrylser engines.
Gas will spew from the tank when filling the tank. The pump shuts off correctly but gas comes rushing out, even if not completely filled.
Driver airbag ligth is always on beeping doors interior after 1yr the tops come off plastic interior trim come off after 1yr.
My 2007 Chrysler Aspen was in "park" at a gasoline station. The car shifted into reverse while I was filling the tank. I tried to jump in the car as it was rolling and was drug along the cement. The car was eventually stopped when the door hit a cement pole. This resulted in approximately $2200 in damages to the door of the vehicle and quite a few cuts, scrapes and bruises on my body. The car had shifted out of gear several times before (usually while I was in reverse) and had been reported to Chrysler, but because they couldn't get the car to do it while it was in the shop, they refused to fix it. The key also would stick when starting the car leaving it to rev while I tried to get the key out. I was told by the repairman that Chrysler was aware of these issues, but until they found a fix there was nothing they could do. I have read where other Chrysler models were recalled for these same issues, but the Aspen has never been included in the recall. I have since traded in the vehicle for another brand because of these issues.
We own a new unreliable 2007 Chrysler Aspen. Over a dozen times, it has randomly lost power and slid into neutral on its own where the driver has no power, brakes, or steering. I have had to use the emergency brake to stop the car often when it does this so the car does not role in a parking lot, or slide into my garage door. On Sunday, September 16th I was on an expressway and I was at a stop light and when I went to accelerate, the car again would not go forward or reverse. Neither drive or reverse or neutral was lit up and the car would not move. Unlike the other times though, it would not get moving again. Cars were coming at us 50 miles an hour. A lot of people came to help the kids and I move the car but it was hard to turn off the road because there was no steering, brakes, gas etc after about 5 minutes of trying to move the car in and out of drive and neutral, and turning the car on and off, then the car would only stay on for a few seconds and turn off automatically. Within 5 more minutes the car would not even turn on. We pushed the car and had to use the emergency brake to stop the car once it was to the side. The dealership determined the main computer was broken and completely disabled the car. They replaced the main computer and the problem is still occurring. On Sunday, October 14th we were at a store and I placed the car in reverse, and the car did the same thing again where it started to reverse, and then slipped into neutral where neither neutral, reverse, or drive would light up, I had no steering, and no brakes. I hit the emergency brake to stop the car. I turned the car off, waited a few minutes, and turned it back on and was able to drive home â½ mile. Sunday, may 18th we were in a left turn lane turning left onto an expressway, the car completely died. The tow truck driver could not turn it on and towed it to our home. The next day another tow truck driver could not turn it on, and towed it back to the dealership.
Currently at 60 miles short of 3,000 miles. Since I have had the vehicle it has acted very strange. It all started while in drive the vehicle will increase in rpm's but will not move in forward or in reverse. Now this included a time or two while stopped at a light. My Aspen's new thing is to have a momentary loss of engine power followed by the dash board illuminating as if the vehicle was in the ignition state but not started. Once this event takes place the vehicle will not log miles driven, does not show current speed, does not show rpms, shows every warning light available, the engine fan goes at full speed, the ac fan kicks on (its winter. No I do not have the ac on), and finally it does read the gas gage. ¿ this condition can be cleared by restarting the vehicle. The dealer and Chrysler has not recognized this as a normal fault and the vehicle stores no fault codes that have led to a problem with a solution. This event has taken place 12 times. However, this only happened twice when located near a dealer or not at an inconvenient time. I'm a soldier and I also run a disc jockey business. Here are just a few inconvenient times: 4:00 am (going to training), heading to a wedding ceremony, or my favorite day "Sunday" when no dealer/automotive repairer can be found. The first time the tech at donovan Dodge of sierra vista, az witnessed my freaky Aspen in action he did not believe the computer output he was reading. The tech having no witnesses present turns the car off and viola no problem. The techs supervisor and Chrysler were in disbelief. Now I have finally experienced this problem while the dealer was open and I was close by. The tech was very Smart this time to get witnesses to show the computer reading no pcm, no abs, no pwr steeretc. While running; Chrysler says the vehicle should not be running. ¿.
