1 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/28/2023

While cruising at 55 miles per hour, an unexpected occurrence took place – the engine abruptly ceased to function. I found myself on a two-lane highway in the midst of a construction zone, where the highway was reduced to a single lane, flanked by barriers. In a situation devoid of power assistance, I navigated the immobile vehicle between these barriers to reach a secure location, narrowly evading a potential accident. This issue is perilous and disturbingly common among these vehicles, yet it lacks a definitive diagnosis or solution. Even the computer scans fail to pinpoint the root cause behind this disruptive problem. I had no choice but to have the vehicle towed, and an automotive technician subsequently replaced the crank position sensor, just one of the many potential culprits in this recurring issue. Remarkably, the car operated without issue for two months, only to once again shut down without warning at high speed. Then, quite unexpectedly, approximately ten minutes later, the car miraculously restarted. This issue is perilous and disturbingly common among these vehicles, yet it lacks a definitive diagnosis or solution. It is imperative to stress that this problem is widely recognized and acknowledged, with countless owners repeatedly seeking assistance from dealerships, yet the issue remains unresolved. The gravity of this situation cannot be overstated, as these vehicles are prone to sudden shutdowns while traveling at high speeds. Urgent attention and action are needed to investigate and rectify this life-threatening concern.

2 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2020

I was driving down the interstate and engine suddenly cut off and I had to push it to the side of the road, I could have been rear-ended easily. There was no power and engine would not turn over, only electronics would light up and engine fan would run at a high rate of speed. I do not understand why Chrysler/mercedes would not have a recall on this yet. Apparently it is the rcm module that has bad solder points so I have heard. Very dangerous that this is happening to a vehicle with under 100k miles. It has happened before and left me stranded a couple times, and this time it would not start at all so I had to get a tow truck to tow it 27 miles home. If this happened to a new driver or elderly person this could have been very dangerous. I can't even imagine what would have happened if this happened while I was on a road trip or driving through atlanta or something.

3 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2019

This is my 2nd request. I have defective airbags & they have been this way since the car was new. It only has 40k miles on it. I have tried contacting Chrysler numerous times, they have not replied. This is very dangerous. I have gone to numerous dealerships, private repairs and put over $2500 of my own money into this issue, but it still isn't working etc. Everyone says this call should be recalled. I need help!.

4 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/22/2017

Car shut down in traffic would not start turn ignition dead. Had to have car towed after 45min to and hour started. Broke down in city street traffic. Very scared on going traffic (stop).

5 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/27/2017

The contact owns a 2004 Chrysler Crossfire. While attempting to start the vehicle, the ignition failed to start and an unusual warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the ignition failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The local dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. The failure mileage was approximately 101,000.

6 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2016

The contact owns a 2004 Chrysler Crossfire. While driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled and also failed to start on several occasions. The failures recurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the cause of the failure was unable to be determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 79,000.

7 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2016

My car was on the highway and it shut down. No warning. No check engine light on prior to the car shutting down while driving 60 mph. When I attempted to turn it on all of the loaner lights would turn on. Including the air, radio, windows etc. I tried to get a jump and nothing happened. Called for a tow truck and as soon as it showed up it cranked up. This has happened again after turning off my car and trying to start it again but nothing happens. I've heard of this happening with Crossfires and it's unbelievable that there has not been a recall. Also there has been no recall regarding the ignition. Problems with turning the key if removed. The key has to remain in the ignition. I've had a friend who's Crossfire does that also as well as mine.

8 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/13/2016

Very dangerous ---wire's get weak and corrosion start engine fire. Car computer blow up . . . . . Fire under hood. . . . .

9 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/26/2015

At 50 mph on a maryland state highway, the engine unexpectedly shut off resulting in the vehicle coasting to a stop in the traffic lane (there was no shoulder). Fortunately, I was not struck by another vehicle, but it was dark and vehicles coming over a small hill and slight curve had to take evasive action to avoid a collision. The engine would crank and start briefly and then sputter to a stop. Or, it would just crank and not fire or not crank at all. I was eventually, with assistance, able to push the vehicle off the roadway into a residential driveway. I had the vehicle towed to my residence for further diagnosis. The vehicle would later start and run normally for a short period, but then was plagued by a large list of issues to include: malfuncitoning indicator lights illuminated - brake light, brake wear indicator, traction control, stability control; p0600 data link loss code; vehicle not shifting out of park; speedometer not working, etc. Eventually, the engine would no longer crank at all. All issues were remedied by replacing the relay control module (rcm) - a part that was, and still is, manufactured by stribel. This part has know issues related to poorly soldered connections that cause no-start conditions or cause the vehicle to stall while operating. The rcm is also plagued by failure of the internal relays (engine control, fuel pump, traction control, secondary air pump) themselves which may be hastened by overheating as a result of the poor solder joints. If it has not already happened, someone is going to be seriously injured or killed when their Chrysler Crossfire (or any one of a number of Mercedes Benz vehicles utilizing the same stribel relay) stalls due to this widely know defect and is struck by another vehicle.

10 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/25/2013

Steering wheel locks, ignition will not work (car won't start accessories won't work) will need tow truck to move vehicle. Cost for repairs 1400. 00 which included new key, new ignition cylinder. Virtually dead in the water wherever you parked it.

11 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2013

This is a common problem on 1000's of Crossfire's and mercedes (all models from 1998 forward). This issue is the bas system and brakes. Intermittingly, and usually during warmer weather when applying the brakes the bas light comes on, as does the light indicator. The issue is that the brake lights do not come on. There is a fault where if the bas is not working, the brake lights do not come on. They are tied together in the electronics. The bas is not required to stop the vehicle, however no brake lights because of the fault is extremely unsafe. The vehicle cannot be driven. Research online has found 1000's of complaints, no resolution and typically hundreds or thousands in repair costs that do not fix the issue. The brake lights should run independently of the bas system. A common fix is connecting an inline fuse from the brake switch to the brake light, if one is mechanically inclined to do so. Contacting mb states they know the issue but cannot determine the cause they also stated too costly to change the system for a % of owners. Other car manufacturers have brake lights wired separately from bas systems.

12 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/25/2013

Steering wheel it lock and when I want to start the car , the key in the ignition will not move . Is the second time it happened . The first time was two years a go ( year 2010 ) when I had 30000 miles on the car , and I had to buy a new assembly ( the lock-cylinder housing , ignition lock cylinder , switch and the key . ) now the dealer told me I need a new ignition lock cylinder and maybe a new key again ) .

13 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2013

Drain pipes do not drain water, causing the rain, car wash, or any excess water to drain into the car. About 2 gallons ended up on the passenger floor board. Very common problem.

14 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2012

The contact owns a 2004 Chrysler Crossfire. The contact stated that after inserting the key into the ignition, the steering column seized and the key could not be turned. The failure recurred six times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis but no cause for the failure was found. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The VIN was unavailable. The failure and current mileage was 26,000.

15 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/27/2012

Vehicle shut down while driving and would not restart.

16 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2011

Vehicle leaks water into driver side compartment every time it rains. As it does so the blower motor fills with water and can lead to a fire starting in the cars cabin. Chrysler was contacted but no repair was offered though this problem is a manufacturing defect.

17 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2005

The vehicle was being driven on the interstate with the cruise control set. Upon approaching an exit, the brakes were applied and the car lurched forward. The brakes were applied again and the vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed. After several successive attempts to brake the vehicle, the cruise control was finally overridden. The dealership where the vehicle was obtained replaced the switch that governs the cruise control and braking system. This switch failed, which caused the vehicle to accelerate when the brakes were applied. According to the dealership's service department, this occurred because the vehicle identified the braking as climbing a grade and it was accelerating in order to maintain the speed at which the cruise was set.

18 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2004

My car's spoiler malfunctioned the first day; it would jam in the up position. My windshield sprayer wouldn't work either. The clock advances on its own by approximately 2 min each day. All of these problems existed from day one, as I drove off of the dealers lot. First two problems were fixed with a lot of agony. My clock hasn't been fixed. I've taken it to the dealer twice and they were unable to reproduce the "code" each time. I'm ready to return the car.

19 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2003

I have a 2004 Chrysler Crossfire. The radio display is very dim and cannot be read n normal daylight conditions. This a possible safety hazard for those who will concentrate on the radio instead of the road. Althought I don't believe I woould do this I find myseld looking at the radio trying to see the station when I should be keeping my eyes on the road. The situation is made very sangerous by the dim display.

20 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2003

Auto/transmission/electrical system. I'm just so glad that this is a drive by wire car, especially when the cars electrical system can't regulate its voltage properly. You would think that daimler would have the electrical system built as tough as nails. Seeing that the cars life support is all dependent upon pulse power. So my complaint is do to the cars failure to regulate its power, it cooked my transmissions drive plate located internally on top of the valve body. Then surged back to the transmission control module & fried that. And some how, and I can't figure out why this occurred but, the internal gears inside my throttle body got fused together. This is strange to me seeing that the gears are made out of a composite. So with all that has occurred it has left the car lifeless for over 90 days now. I have contacted Chrysler corp. Offices through there website, pleading with them to exchange the broken pieces. They only responded with "contact you dealer" so I have sent multiple "parts and service requests" to the two dealerships that I can go to. One is a " " five star dealership, and the other is not. I never once got a response from either one. Daimler said take it to the dealership, so I replied "the car does not drive", so again I requested a parts exchange, and again the same stock response "contact your dealer". . . Bla bla. I am more than qualified to install all parts that are needed to be replaced. I guess the rumors are all try, about Chrysler turning their backs on customers once the car has been sold. All I know is I am not paying for this, or heads will roll.
