June 6th 2024, I got into my 2095 Chrysler Crossfire and started driving hearing a rattling sound I pulled over and looked in back of my car to see the back window separated away from the soft top and was openly hanging, I had to get home from where I was at so I took back roads all way home and pulled over everytime a car got behind me. Also in past month my car sometimes starts right up and other time it won’t come on. Hubby says it’s an electrical issue. My car died on me as I pulled onto a hiway luckily I was able to pull off to the side of the road. I’ve seen several electrical issues reported on a car forum for these cars, also window separation. I have pics if needed.
Car was stationary and key was inserted into ignition but could not turn the ignition in attempting to start the car. It does not move (key) to initiate the function to start the car. Also, no motion of the key movement was available provide any steps of the ignition. The movement of the ignition tumblers become froze in a jammed position disabling the key from turning. It should be noted this is not a new comment about this year 2005 Chrysler Crossfire ignition (no turn) in starting the vehicle. Safety concerns, prevention of starting a car create an emergency's for movement other than driving the car.
Tl the contact owns 2005 Crossfire. The contact stated that when she put the key into the ignition it was locked and she was unable to get it started. The vehicle was taken to dealer south chicago Chrysler Jeep who diagnosed it and informed that it needed a new ignition and a cylinder and the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and informed that the vehicle was not part of a recall and is not eligible to have the issue resolved. The failure mileage was approximately 62,000. Jc.
Rear windshield completely separated from top in late (oct)2010. It was replaced and has completely separated again. I am so upset. This is dangerous and costly. I also have issues with car alarm going off while operating vehicle. I have contacted crysler and have not been offered any assistance.
Ignition key is stuck and will not turn, apparently a well known common problem among owners car parked and shut off and then when trying to restart key will not turn.
By back window got unglued & unable to lower my top. Also the electrical just stopped I'm not able to move my seats, or use cd player or lighter to plug my phone. Just one day it stopped working & then with my window unglued I'm not able to take top down for past 2 years. So I don't know why the back window got unglued.
Airbag light and therefore failure unless fixed due to faulty clock spring and steering angle sensor with only 67144 miles on car. The clock spring was found defective and recalled on other Chrysler models - should be extended to include this model.
Rear glass in convertible has lost adhesion allowing water into car interior. Car has been kept in a garage for the last 7 years, and only driven about 3,000 miles per year.
During a severe rainstorm the rear window glass detached from the convertible top allowing severe flooding of the interior of the vehicle causing various electrical failures to occur. This sudden and unexpected event caused an emergency stop in traffic that could have resulted in an accident. The residual damage from this event affects rear window visibility and electrical failures that involve the operation of the locking system, the anti fog rear window capability and other electrical systems in the rear part of the vehicle which I cannot access because of the inoperative top and trunk.
My car has on occasion randomly just not turned over, somedays it runs then may not start for days, then start then just not start, getting very frustrated due to low miles car has and having this rediculious issue. Put in new battery nothing, changed out parts still will not fix it.
The contact owns a 2005 Chrysler Crossfire. When the vehicle was stopped and turned off, it was unable to be restarted. The key did not turn the ignition well enough to restart the vehicle. There was no warning indicator illuminated. The failure recurred several times. The dealer stated that the vehicle was old and was not sold by that dealer. The failure was not remedied. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 26,000.
The vehicle stopped running, check engine light came on, the air condition hesitate to come on and the tire senure light stays on.
The contact owns a 2005 Chrysler Crossfire. Occasionally, after the vehicle was turned off, the contact was unable to turn the key in the ignition to start the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 66,039.
Thia car's problem may be withthe ignition. Sometime's it just will not start. We put a new battery in it only to find that the battery was not the problem. It has been to repair three times. They did a thorough check and found nothing wrong each time. The first time the car had to be towed. They said they did not experience the problem when they had the car. It wasdriven back home. Another time the car just stopped on the highway (at 35mph) downtown atlanta in heavy traffic. I'm afraid to drive it because it may either stop or just not start.
The rear window is coming loose and it's leaking. . Modules in trunk shorted due to water leak.
Recall laminate issue, convertible top failure leading to electrical damage causing top to stay open.
Very difficult to turn key in the ignition to start the cr. Problem became acute in a week. Could not start the car. Towed to dealer. $1,200 repair quote.
Rear window detached. Nhtsa has Chrysler TSB on file for same exact defect, issued by Chrysler in 2011, specifying 10 year/100,000 mile warranty extension. Chrysler restricts their remedy to only vehicles first sold in alabama, florida, georgia, louisiana, missouri, north carolina, south carolina, tennessee, and texas, despite the fact that all of these cars were imported from the same source at the same time. There is no difference in the product defect that has occurred nationwide. The NHTSA must force Chrysler to help all affected owners! what Chrysler is doing is just so wrong! please help us! updated 05/12/14.
This serves as an addendum to our (and many others') complaints. The Chrysler TSB that you have on file, only lists the affected systems as "visibility", and it calls for repair (?) when it actually specifies replacement as the only recommended remedy, at a typical cost of $2,500; to be provided or reimbursed to a small select group of owners, even though this failure continues to occur nationwide. This is absurd. We should note that the term "structure" as an "affected part" no longer appears in your e-mail complaint form (we wonder why?) all modern convertible roof tops and windows are intended and designed for safe, long term use in any expected driving conditions, thus the use of dot approved safety glass and electronic rear window defrosters, especially when conditions require the roof top to be in the "up" position. The negative results of any window detachment, visibility, stability of the vehicle, safe reaction by the driver, weather protection, electrical malfunction etc. , both immediate and potential long term, in a case where the vehicle must still be driven any unknown distance unprotected from whatever conditions possible, may well prove catastrophic and must be considered completely unacceptable by any standard, especially that of our u. S. Government. Your publication (dot hs 808 795) states: "similarly a person may. . Petition (request) NHTSA to hold a hearing on whether a manufacturer has reasonably met its obligation to notify and/or remedy a safety defect or noncompliance with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. If the petition is granted, a hearing is held to assess the matter and decide what corrective action should be taken. If the petition (request) is denied, the reasons for the denial are published in the federal register". At the very minimum, Chrysler had an obligation to notify all of the potential (& inevitable) failure! please help.
I parked my car at a shop's parking lot and didn't have any issues. About 20 minutes later I came back to my car and tried to get the engine to turn over and the ignition would not turn. I tried with both of my keys and I couldn't get the ignition to turn. The steering wheel also was locked up. I had to take apart my dash board to get to the ignition so I could release the locking pin. Once the pin was released I had no problems starting the car.
Vehicle ignition and steering column locked up. Required a tow. Towed to dealership. Mechanic stated he has replaced at least twenty ignitions on Crossfires, in the last two years, with the identical problem. Minimum cost for repairs is $2000. 00. Ignition has to be re-laser cut to fit existing key.
Was shopping. Left store , got in my car , put the key in & it would not turn (froze). Had to have it towed to dealership. (cross motors lou ky). . . . . . Cost $1,569. . . . . Have found out that this is an on going problem with many Crossfire owners everywhere. Too many people are having problem with "defective key switch" . Should warrant a callback from mfgr.
When you put the key in to start engine it won't turn in any direction. Can not remove key. Shook, jiggled, turned , key with no movement. Took about 3 hours of shaking key in lock before it worked. Has done this every time the last few times I drove car. Now the car just sits in the driveway. I have been told it will not ever turn again. Would not like to have the engine die on freeway and have to re-start the engine with the key acting the way that it does, would be sitting in traffic shaking the key for 2 to 3 hours.
We just bought a 2005 Chrysler Crossfire roadster srt6. Last night (13 Mar 2006) we were driving through town. When my wife stopped at a stop sign the car stalled. Turning the key off and starting again the car started and ran. The car has only 600 miles. I read where other Chryslers have sudden stalling problems and have had recalls. Not sure if there were very few Crossfires and if they ought to be included in a recall.
