Had bumping sounds in rear at that time and had it checked out by mechanic, could not find anything. It is now 09-27-2009 and tonight I noticed a loud pop when I turned steering wheel to the left entering garage, this prompted me to look up problem on line only to learn that this chrylser model is defective! and that Chrysler will not fix theses vehicles! I am now afraid to dive my car at all. Vehicle now has 99,000 miles. What can I do?.

7 Steering problem of the 2001 Chrysler LHS

Failure Date: 10/15/2007

The steering wheel squeaks when turning. Usually when it is cold weather, below 60 degrees or so. Took it to dealer who said that it is coming from the steering box and there is no danger. It is safe to drive and to "live with it". I took that to mean that it would be very expensive to fix, although no quote was ever given. After reading numerous complaints about steering problems with Chrysler products, and specifically my make, model and year, I think this may be a precursor to something much more serious. The problem has been intermittent for the past 18 months, although I just recently took it to the dealer for their diagnostic evaluation.
