36 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/28/2014

I went to a mechanic to have an oil change and upon inspecting the vehicle, the mechanic noticed the engine frame was severely rusted. It is rusted to the point he advised me to no longer drive the vehicle. The cradle is rusted to the point you can no longer see where it is attached and can fit fingers in the rust holes. I was informed by my mechanic that this is a manufacturer issue that would put my family and I in danger.

37 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2014

The engine cradle has significant rust and should be replaced by Chrysler.

38 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2014

I brought my 2004 Chrysler Pacifica in for its annual nys inspection. It failed inspection due to the fact that the subframe was so rotted out it wouldn't pass. I realize the car is over ten years old, but this should not happen. I discovered that this is an ongoing issue with 2004-2005 Pacificas, and wanted to add my complaint to the record. We now have to incur an expense that we cannot afford, and should not have to. My mechanic is now going to contact Chrysler to see what they will do.

39 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2014

I been having my Chrysler Pacifica 2004 for 7 months. I had to fix my left passenger axle, shock, water pump, radiator, passenger upper motor mount, the tank for the water, fuel injector line, two tune ups, air filter, fuses, brake lights and tires. Thing that is broke, the passenger window elevator, and my ac.

40 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/16/2014

My subframe is rotted and rusted just like every other 04 Pacifica its ridiculous . Chrysler needs to be a stand up company and fix it.

41 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/16/2014

While in for inspection in June '14, we were advised by the mechanic that the engine cradle assembly had rusted through and was unsafe - they would not pass it through inspection. Otherwise, the car is in excellent condition, and has been maintained properly throughout our ownership. Our research indicates this is a problem with the initial factory paint application - it was defective and allowed for premature corrosion of the cradle assembly. There are many instances of this posted on the internet (some of which have been addressed by Chrysler - but not all). This is dangerous and something should be done before accidents start happening (especially with children involved given this vehicle is a minivan).

42 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/09/2014

The engine cradle has rusted out and the engine is ready to fall out of the car. Cannot pass safety inspection. No assistance from Chrysler on this after many calls. It seems to be a very, very popular issue. They said they will only fix something that has a recall. So basically they will not stand behind their products unless they are forced to. What a shame!.

43 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2014

I purchased my 2004 Chrysler Pacifica in October of 2013. I was having some issues with my car making a clunking noise with acceleration and I took it up to the car shop. (may of 2014) I was told the motor mounts are rusted out and the engine cradle is rusted almost through. I was told there was a recall for the 2004 Pacificas. I called Chrysler and was told my car is out of the range for the recall by 6 months. I was not aware of this recall or would have taken care of it when I found out about it. The cost to repair is about 3,000. 00 and the car is not safe to drive. I have found this is a major problem with many other Pacifica owners and would like something done about this. I do not feel I should have to pay for this repair when it has been know by Chrysler that this is a very unsafe defect in their product.

44 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2014

Took my car to the mechanic to look at a front exhaust issue when I was informed my frame was rotting away. I did a google search and learned of many incidents with this year, make and model of car that has had many instances like this with no help from the mfg.

45 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2014

I went to get a front end alignment on my vehicle and was informed that my vehicles sub frame is completely rusted through. I was told my vehicle is unsafe to drive and that my engine could fall out at any time. I called Chrysler and was told there are no recalls on my car specifically and that I would have to pay out of pocket for repairs. I have done some research regarding this problem and have found that this is a common problem with my make model and year vehicle. I called Chrysler back and was told there was still nothing they could do even though this is a known issue. Only 6 weeks worth of my make model and year vehicle were recalled and that mine did not fall into that category because it was built 4 months prior to the recall dates. This part should be recalled as this is a common problem and as my mechanic pointed out it is most definitely a defect in the sub frame. If the dealer does not wish to resolve this issue I will be contacting a lawyer.

46 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2014

Had car on hoist notice that the engine cradle/ frame is rusted out, was advise not safe to drive.

47 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2014

The horn for the car will sound indiscriminately. It will sound at any speed, any time of day, and even when the vehicle isn't running or has a key in the ignition. When the horn sounds, other drivers get distracted or confused by the sound. Driving with the horn on is also very distracting. I am uncertain if pulling the fuse for the horn will affect the airbag operation.

48 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/12/2014

A frame support ( cross member) has a hole big enough to put part of your hand into. This whole also goes right out the back side of the support. This support not only holds up the engine but also gives stability to the front end. Risks are loss of life, complete loss of control and or severe engine damage should support fail.

49 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2014

I took my car to my mechanic for required annual state safety inspection, which it failed because the engine cradle was rusted through with holes, and the engine mounting loose. There had been no evidence of this at his previous servicing of the car, which is done regularly. I researched online and found many postings of other Pacifica owners with the same issues, and a copy of a letter from Chrysler to some original owners regarding an extended warranty for the repairs. Many people stated that they could not get Chrysler to comply with their requests for reimbursement due to the specific manufacturing time limitations outlined in that warranty (26). I called Chrysler and was told by representative ashley that my car would be covered, even though my car was not manufactured between those specified dates, and to take my car to a Chrysler dealer so that I wouldn't have to wait for reimbursement, and that if they had a problem they could call Chrysler. I did so. The dealer called Chrysler, and was told that Chrysler would not honor the original determination to cover my car. I called Chrysler a second time, and was told by miranda that a supervisor had decided that ashley had been wrong in telling me they would cover my car's repairs, and that this decision was final. I was not permitted to speak with any supervisor, and miranda refused to give me her last name. She admitted that my case file (number 24783867) showed that I had been told my car would be covered, and that the call had been recorded. I was then told that the repairs would have to be made at my own expense, for which I have been quoted an approx. Amount of $2100. 00. Chrysler does not intend any recalls for this issue. My car is unsafe to drive, and will not pass state safety inspection, unless the required repairs are made. Chrysler should be made to make amends for their unsafe product.

I have a Chrysler Pacifica 2004 (fwd) and I am having problem with stalling while driving and its happed so many times. I was searching on gogle about this matter and I noticed so many same complain about this car. Its a very dangerous situation, I have no other issue with this car. Please look into this matter. Thank you very much.

Failure Date: 01/01/2014

In January, the suspension on our 2004 Chrysler Pacifica (purchased 08/2003), seemed to have issues. A web search to investigate, led me to a much more serious issue that effects '04 and '05 Pacificas. I had our mechanic inspect the frame and sure enough, we were one of the many affected. Our mechanic told us the car was no longer safe to drive, and that the compromised frame caused the front right wheel to shift inwards. We were quoted between 4,000 and 5,000 dollars for our repairs. The car now sits in the garage as we hope for a resolution. After in depth research, I uncovered thousands of complaints related to the issue, two nbc news segments, and a petition. I also discover that a few years back, Chrysler extended the warranty for vehicles produced between February and March of 2004. However, since our vehicle did not fall under this provision, we were never informed that we may have been effected. I contacted Chrysler and opened a case. I was instructed to write an email to the case manager that contained all of the information which I uncovered online (as if they didn't already know the issue existed). This proved to be a waste of time, as we were declined any assistance because our vehicle did not fall within the extend warranty. We have been the only owners of our vehicle, which has 68,000 miles, has been garage kept, and has been driven only by my 85 year old grandparents. Apparently, Chrysler has made a business decision not to address this wide spread issue. There are thousands of owners driving unsafe vehicles, many of which are completely unaware that this issue exists. Us, as well as all other parties effected are due appropriate recourse, but I fear that we will have to cut ties with our vehicle before there is a resolution.

52 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2013

This is a garage kept car, low mileage. Had mechanic check car out and found that the sub frame had major rust and holes in it. Chrysler recalled 2004 Pacificas that were made in a 6 week time period and fixed those but no others. In researching this matter there are a lot of 2004 Pacificas with this issue and Chrysler is refusing to fix them.

53 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2013

As owning the 2004 Pacifica for not even a yr . We had a noise as we were trying to find out the problem a friend had notice a huge rusted hole in the subframe . As I emailed a picture to the dealer their answer was "we are not aware of this problem. " 6/25/14 I googled the problem and Chrysler is aware of this ! why was I not informed of this when I bought it and how in the world do they let this problem go !!!! I have no other car and drive w two children everyday. It is a ticking time bomb!!!!.

54 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2013

I took the vehicle to good year for inspection and was informed that the engine cradle was rusted through and it was unsafe to drive.

55 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2013

I have almost been in four accidents in the past week and a half due to my 2004 Chrysler Pacifica stalling in the middle of intersections and roads without warning. As I accelerate the car starts to hesitate, sputter and then just dies out. The last time it did this in the middle of a busy road with cars going by at 50mph, I had two good samaritans and two police officers that were nearby help me to safety where I had to have the vehicle towed back to my home where it sits today. The first time it happened the check engine light came on, it said bad crankshaft sensor, so I replaced it. The second time it happened it said bad camshaft, so I replaced it. The third time it happened it said bad camshaft sensor again, so I replaced thinking I bought a defective one. This did not work either as the car ended up stalling for good two days ago. I know there have been recalls in the past for this exact stalling condition of the engine, but Chrysler says my car did not show up as one of the recalled ones. I find this very concerning that this dangerous condition would not be covered by Chrysler when they know it has been an issue on thousands of other similar Pacificas.

When I bought it I drove it 20 feet to gas station. The gas tank said I had half a tank of gas. Once I was done I turned the car back on and it said I had no gas! I called the guy who sold it to me and he said it just takes time for it to regrister that I filled it up so I drove it back to him to show him what I was talking about when he got there it said I had half a tank and he told me to drive it home I would be fine! well on the way home it said I had 20 mile till empty but the last thing it showed on gas tank was that I still was at half take so I filled it up agin. I took the car to my brothers which is 35 miles from fargo to have him see if he could fix the pumps but he couldn't so I got back on interstate goin 75 mph to go home and the gas light flickered and the car went from 75 to 0 in like 2 seconds. Resulting in myself bashing my head on steering wheel and no air bags went off either! my husband came to get me and brought gas cans to get me enough gas to make it to a gas station! it took us 58 min exactly to fill the tank completely full so I could make it back home. So the next day I called back and they eventually had me take it to lundes in fargo to fix the gas tank which took 1 month almost 2, so when I got it back multiple times in between that time it was still happening! finally they fix it except the fact that a year later it's happening all over agin! which was 5 days ago on my way to jamestown with my children in the car! I have called many of places and nobody knows how to fix it. If I go back to lundes they said they had no idea why it would happen agin! and how long it would take them to figure it out! it would have happened earlier if I actually drove the car more but ever since the accident when I drive that car I can't stop checking how full the tank is! something needs to be done before someone gets into a serious accident with that car!.

Failure Date: 07/13/2013

Our car suffered from a severely rusted front sub frame (engine cradle) that required replacement. We had the sub frame replaced, Chrysler refused to help or compensate in any way.

58 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/09/2013

My 2004 Pacifica with a rusted through engine cradle. There is a service memo, csc-10045080-7364, pertaining to an extended warranty for this part. Chrysler tells me that it doesn't apply in my case since the build date of my vehicle precedes the build dates covered by the extended warranty. I only have 85,000 miles on the car and the subframe is rusted through. It seems to me that extending the extended warranty build date range is called for. Certainly the frame of an automobile should last more than 87,000 miles.

59 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

My certified mechanic has informed me and shown me that my engine cradle also know as the sub-frame has severe corrosion and is very dangerous! at anytime the frame may completely snap causing the engine to collapse and or lose complete control of vehicle if an incident occurs while driving. I have researched this issue and found that this is a very common problem for my vehicle model and year. . Read more...

I am writing because I am seeking help. I am the 2nd owner on a used Chrysler Pacifica 2004, purchased in may 2013. When I first brought it my fiancã© had some concerns with the rust under the car , but he's not a mechanic so he wasn't able to tell if it was as dangerous as he suspected it to be. Before the Chrysler, we had an 05 Mazda mpv that got totaled. We used to take it to the Mazda dealership on the auto mile on route 1 in norwood to get regular oil changes and etc. . . So naturally we took our Chrysler to the same place and the mechanic told us, "I can't even believe you drove in here with your undercarriage in the condition that it was in. With that info, I have tried to file a claim with Chrysler corporation with failed attempts. I am seeking resolution for my rusty corroded cross member connected to the subframes which is the the piece that holds my engine. After calling the dealer I brought my car from, he told me I could investigate that Chrysler has had several complaints about or regarding rusty, corroded subframes of their 04-05 Pacifica's and I found a particular article as I strolled through google and seen several complaints about the same issue. That in January of this year, there was a broadcast for this particular situation for Chrysler 04-05. But Chrysler corporation claims my vehicle doesn't fall in the built dates. The repairs are very expensive, I got a quote for $900. 00 for the repairs when I went to muffler mart on 1579 columbus avenue for an inspection sticker and I would like Chrysler to assist in the repairs or have at least a recall on the issue of all 04-05 Chrysler Pacifica's, before someone gets fatally injured. There was also an nbc chicago investigations covering this same story, in April of 2014, but it was first exposed in January 2014.

When I got my wheels fixed I was looking on the my car and me and the mechanic noticed that's the subframe what's rusty he he told me that it was on safe to drive my car cause my engine can fall out any minutes. When I was doing some research I discovered dad is his own common problem with Chrysler Pacificas. To my knowledge this should not happen with a car from 2004 so I'm writing this complaints because I think Chrysler is responsible for replacing the subframe. This repairis going to cost me at least a thousand dollars no I don't have that money and I'm paying on the car so please can you tell me what's I can do. Girls I know if I'm not the first one who is complaining about this. My email is whvoet@hotmail. Com thank you for your time.

We have just found out the sub frame of our 2004 Pacifica is severely rusted out. It only has 120,000 iles on it and it only 9 years old! there is no rust whatsoever on the body of the car but underneath is completely corroded. This is a huge safety hazard and from what I read it's not uncommon. Chrysler has only issued an extended warranty for the subframe for a 30 day period of production but apparently it's more then just the ones made in that month! Chrysler says to keep the receipts in case the have a recall but what gets me is why is there no recall yet!?! this is not normal wear and tear and again it's extremely dangerous. They must of skipped a coat of protectant or something went wrong because it's not coincidence that thousands of other people have the same problem with the 2004 / 2005 year. You purchase a vehicle trusting to put your families live in it and make it from point a to b. But the subframe it the life line of the vehicle and for Chrysler to still not issue a recall on this is pretty irresponsible on their part! one of the even scarier things is that others that are not aware of the problem are out there driving their vehicles on the road and could be a hazard for others!.

My 2004 Chrysler Pacifica stalls out of nowhere when I'm driving it can be when I'm driving at 5 miles or even 20,30 or even 50 miles or if I'm making a turn which is very scary when my steering wheel locks up on me. It also wont start all the time I've had my car in the shop over 20 time to find out what's going on, I've spent over 5,000. 00 dollars trying to fix it but to no avail. I've been doing some research on this issue and there are tunes of people with the same problem on 04, 05, and 06 Chrysler Pacifica's but only the 05's have a recall on the pcm. I've had my gas line changed twice because I could only use half a tank be for it would drop to e and run out of gas and that was 3,000. 00 within a year and that's been a big issue in the Pacifica world also. I just don't understand why Chrysler wont fix the problems on these SUV's its clearly a safety issue that needs to be resolved. I've trusted Chrysler with my family and it's scary to drive this car knowing it can and will shut off on me at any time and may not start back up. I don't have money to get a new car being a single mom of 4 that's why I purchased this car. Now with all the problems that I'm having with it and no one knows what's wrong with it or how to fix it is a big headache. I took it to a mechanic that has a friend that works for Chrysler Dodge and Jeep and they put there machines on my car and they couldn't find out what was going on with it as well and there's no code that was given they said I needed to change my starter and something else I cant remember the part but that was another 200. 00 and its still not fixed now they say it has to be my pcm witch is another 1,500 that I don't have. I didn't expect to put all this money out to fix this car and it not getting fixed because Chrysler doesn't know what's wrong with the 04 Pacifica but I'm sure its the pcm just like the 05 and 06 models.

Failure Date: 09/18/2012

My 2004 Chrysler pacifia has had many issues but the one that I am most concerned about is the rusted, corrossion of the engine craddle, sub frame. It is so rusted that I was told my engine may fall out. Went to several junk yards to find part and all the ones I looked at have the same thing wrong with them. They are rusted out and cant be use. . Something wrong here. Please recall these.

66 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2012

After replacing a both motor mounts in July of 2012. They broke again in November 2012!! this time it was so bad that when I turned the corner the engine died and would not start back up. Eventually after trying to turn it over so many time the battery died. We had to have it towed to the shop after the holidays to find out how much it would cost to fix ($1200) and exactly what the issue was. The tech informed me that besides the mounts being broke, when I turned the corner the engine lifted and cut thru all of the wires leading to the failure of the car's power control module. This resulted in a loss of speedometer, other electrical functions, and the loss of three ignition coils. I just want to know why they keep making "rubber" engine mounts if the damn things are useless in the first place? there has to be a reason all these cars are having the same issue and if I had known about this before I financed this "pos", I would never have put my childrens lives in danger. !! I had the car fixed and everything was going fine until last night, once again! I was driving on the highway and some stupid person slammed on her brakes in front of me so I hit mine and when I did my car lunged forward and I heard the god awful "pop" sound again!!! now I am back to square one and within a years time this car will have had 3 sets of motor mounts put on it. Someone please tell me there is not a defect somewhere, because whoever handles these issues at daimler/Chrysler needs to drive one of these cars for themselves and see what we have been dealing with for so long. Also, another issue is the check engine light and it has to do with a very small leak inside the gas tank. I have been told this is a recall, but have not been able to get anyone to fix it. I just want some answers, more so for my kids sake so I can try and get it fixed completely or a new car so they are out of harms way.

The front chassis cross member has rotted out. My 2004 Pacifica has been parked in my driveway over 5 years because the corrosion is so bad I'm afraid to drive it. I've been waiting for a recall to fix this obvious factory defect. The rotted front cross member was pointed out to me during a state inspection in June of 2012.

Does the nhs care about all the complaints on the Chrysler Pacifica to have the million dollar company pay to fix this family car right or recal the car in general. I called the company and because where my car was manufactured its not entitled to replacement because it shouldn't have rested subframes which is totally inaccurate my car has had nothing but issues is a 2004 and I'm not the only one my neighbor has a 2006 Chrysler Pacifica and its subframe is rotted out are we going to sit back and let them not take responsibility do we know what it means when the some subframe is rotted that means if you are unaware of this you can be driving down the road with your kids in the back of the car in your engine drops out of your car which could cause serious serious serious accidents is this what we want. Their only answer was to contact the national highway transportation safety administration.

Failure Date: 01/02/2012

Being in the diesel /automotive field for more than 25 years I was shocked to see that the engine cradle was rotting from the inside out. I do all my own service work on all my vehicles and I have never seen the sub-frame on any vehicle corrode the way this vehicle had. Large rusted out holes in the cross members and sub-frame. Like everyone else with this issue, I did a bunch of research both on the internet and talking with the dealer and found out that Chrysler did issue a TSB on this problem. The TSB only covers vehicles in the north region and only in salt laden states. But what really burns me is the build dates Chrysler only will cover. Chrysler will only cover vehicles built from approximately February to March 2004, and if your car is outside that window, too bad. In my opinion my car is unsafe to drive, so now I have a car that decorates my driveway. Chrysler will not cover anything because of when my car was built as compared to the build window. This is an issue that Chrysler has known about for a while and should stand behind their product. I feel Chrysler is giving their customers the shaft with a very serious issue. Why do people have to die or get seriously inured before oem's actually take care of a serious issue like this.

70 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2005

My wife was parked. When she put the car into drive the lever did not stay in drive. It bounced into reverse and when she started to go forward the force of the reverse caused her to push harder on the accelerator hitting the vehicle behind her and one on the drivers side. We could not duplicate the problem again nor could the dealer while it was in for body repair. My wife lost confidence in this vehicle and we ended up trading it in for a major loss in $. We liked the vehicle and ended up bying another one and noticed that the shiftier had a totally different set up. We questioned Chrysler at the time and they said that there was no problem. A couple of years later we met someone who had the same vehicle as we did at the time, and they had a similar problem as we did but theirs ended up jamming and when they forced it, it broke the plastic sliding cover. Once that happened they had not other problems with it. They tried to replace the cover but none were available. This leads me to believe that Chrysler knew of the problem and elected to ignore it as it did not draw national attention I am not sure it this is too late for any corrective action or not, but I think they should be brought to task for ignoring it.
