No headlight, high beam or low beam or turn signal right side. This began about 6/2017 when replacing bulbs did not work. A few months later the horn also stopped working. Fuel gauge stopped reading and sometimes reads full then drops toward e then may show half. Never a constant reading anymore. All fuses and relays test good. Tipm appears to be in good shape, no visible damage or defects to circuit boards. No good voltage to head lamps or turn signal (meter shows 11. 5 volts, but appears to be a potential and not a good voltage. Cannot light a bulb but still shows the voltage on the meter), grounds meter good to chassis. Wiring harness appears good with no indication of damage. Runs very rough and engine light codes a cylinder 3 misfire. Runs smooth under acceleration but very rough on idle and sometimes stalls when stopping or at red lights. I have spent several hundred dollars already on timing belts, alternators, injectors and other maintenance procedures. Dealers wont look at it without several hundred dollars to run diagnostics again and again. I suspect tipm and pcm to be defective units throughout Chrysler products. You cannot drive at night because I cant get the lights to work. Car is currently parked because it is unusable and unsafe to drive.
Tipm already replaced 1x for same issues occurring again now, a few years later and for at least the last 8 months from this posting, occurring more and more frequently now and last time occurring was Feb 01, 2016. All dash / engine status lights come on for no reason, then off seconds later, occurring anytime while engine is running. Engine stalls - sputtering, power steering and breaks fail to work properly during this time, fuel level gauge wildly fluctuates and smell of gas is noticeable, all causing a dangerous situation when at highway speeds. Head lights and interior lights randomly go bright or dim for a fraction of a second. Dealership unable to diagnose as it does not stay broke long enough for their techs to diagnose with their equipment even after having the car for 2 full days, despite this problem seen visually by dealer and on video recording. Suspect tipm / ecm, integrated voltage regulator is at fault. Extended warranty refuses to replace without a certified diagnosis by authorized repair shop. 2nd major problem with 4 engine mounts needing replacement several times, more than 10 mount replacements during life of my car, so far. 3rd major problem, transmission sometimes will not auto shift gears in a timely manor, taking up to 4 seconds to engage drive or other from park setting. I have the entire life of vehicle paperwork on all repairs and regular maintenance done for this car. Hoping there is a class action lawsuit I can get in on for this problem, seen reported numerous times on various forums like this dot site.
Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser. The contact stated while driving at 25 mph, the instrument panel flickered, and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the alternator needed to be replaced. The alternator was replaced however the failure recurred several times. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000. Ah.
Car has demonstrated multiple electrical issues. . . Lights turning on and off, horn not turning off, instrument panel lighting up and flashiing or not coming on at all. This has culminated in all power in car turning off while on the freeway causing near accident as had to fight to pull car over. Took car for repairs. . . Tinimng belt replaced, alternator replaced. . . Incident occurred again at 65 miles an hour riding down a steep grade on freeway. Does someone actually have to die before something is done. . . Researching this topic shows hundreds of similar incidents.
About 10-15 times over a period of about 6 months I have had repeated, irregular, intermittent malfunctions as follows. All have had the same characteristics. At different speeds, different times, different acceleration, different drivers, etc. The electrical system and engine go out momentarily then in about 1 second is restored. Rarely it is not restored for 4-5 seconds. Headlights stay on but all other electrical systems turn off fleetingly. The instrument lights go off and the dials drop to zero then almost immediately power is restored, instruments resume their previous levels and everything returns to normal. There is no sputtering, backfiring or warning of an impending event. There is no consistent circumstance which precipitates this malfunction. I have taken it twice to the dealer but the malfunction has never recurred while they were driving and alternator, battery, etc. All check out normally. This problem sounds very similar to the currently identified gm malfunction. . Are the electrical harnesses made by the same company?.
This is in concern to a 2006 Pt Cruiser touring purchased at bob schwartz Chrysler in March 2007; bunker hill, in. Short time after the vehicle was purchased, attempted to start vehicle and it would not start: (make note this vehicle has approxiamately 16,500 miles on it now). Took the vehicle back to dealer and new battery was installed, this happen multiple times without problem being resolved(bob schwartz x4, precision auto, crow's auto, and ****wabash valley Chrysler; 1st case****). 2 cases have been opened with Chrysler corporation (auburn hills, mi). 1st case resulted in another new battery and alternator being replaced (oct 2013). 2nd case is ongoing with no resolution in sight. Vehicle is now back at original dealership for diagnostics and have not found a solution. At all instances we have incurred multiple diagnostic, cost of towing vehicle, battery cost, CO-pays and never been offered a rental car to offset the undue burden this has caused. **** schwartz service department indicated to us before last service (bob schwartz) that prior to our purchase of the vehicle; it had previously been serviced for an electrical problem and this was not disclosed at the time of purchase. ******this vehicle was purchased at bob schwartz Chrysler; since then with regard to this intermittent electrical problem, this car over the course of 2007 to present has been at bob schwartz x2, precision auto, crow's auto, back to bob schwartz, wabash valley Chrysler (ie. 1st case with Chrysler corporation 2013) and now back to bob schwartz (ie. 2nd case with Chrysler corporation).
