general problems of the 2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser - part 1

All of the dash board instrument cluster lights turn on breifly,car speed starts to drop, lights on dash turn back off,[ all except seat belt lights] then car seems to restart itself and will reaccelerate. All this happens while we are driving in traffic at highway speeds, this is not good and could result in a very serious incident, not only for us but for othe.

On 12/21/2018 I took my car to the oregon department of environmental quality to have it inspected so I could get my new tags. I had passed every two years but not this time. I was told there was a new law that required the VIN to show up on the report when they hook up their equipment to my onboard computer/diagnostic system and mine did not. I was told it needed to be reprogrammed into my system by a Chrysler dealership. I spent the next six months trying to find out why it was missing and who was responsible but just got the run around or offers to fix it for a lot of money that the deq inspector told me was unnecessary when I went through deq the second time in may of 2019. I even wrote to Chrysler but to no avail. I don't understand why my car wasn't recalled if this information is required by law but mine is missing and shows up on the deq report. I've included the two reports I have from 12/21/2018 and 5/15/2019. I would appreciate any information you can give me. Thank you.

Vehicle has same timp and failed fuel pump relay of recall units from manufacturer affecting 2007-2014, Jeep, durango, and town and country. Several mechanics previously could not find the issue with stalling and poor acceleration. This occurred and worsened over 6 months, before the fuel pump finally failing.

Airbag on passenger side does not work. Have had car worked on several times. New computer installed. Am told it is the tipm. Engine light comes on throwing car into limping mode. Will not go above 45 mph. Only has 58,000 miles on it. Havent had wreck yet.

Car in motion, all lights came on , lost power, was nearly hit from car behind me.

We are being treated in a very uncaring, racist, discriminatory way by the general manager dan hamrick 702-432-2401, at #lasvegas chapman Dodge #Chrysler� @vegasdcj 3175 east sahara las vegas nv 89104. He has consistently refused to see us. He has never returned our calls. I was even threatened with great bodily harm by the service manager mike nicosia. I made a police report. We took our beautiful Pt Cruiser into las vegas #chapman Dodge Chrysler on 10-13-17 because the #engine light was staying on. They installed an expensive �defective� Chrysler #mopar totally integrated power module (tipm) and an expensive �defective� mopar Chrysler power train control module (pcm). Between 10-13-17 to 11-21-17 (approximately one month) I had to return my Chrysler for repairs five (5) times & they installed three (3) pcms & two (2) tipms which were no good!!! my car's engine light came on again on 12-11-17 and my car accelerated by itself, and we crashed!!! this was only nineteen (19) days after my car's very last visit to las vegas chapman #Dodge Chrysler on 11-21-17. Our car sustained great body damage. It cannot be driven. Thank father god no one was killed!!! we had no idea what happened until we read an article about Chrysler's defective totally integrated power modules problems titled �Chrysler tipms causing power problems - updated October 15, 2016� Chryslerproblems. Com/trends/tipm/. Amazing!!! that article led us to similar articles. These are the receipt orders (work orders) in chronological order: #6463649-1, #6464576-1, #6465489-1, #6467298-1, #6467796-1. The problems were never repaired and my car cannot be driven. I am charged a total of $5,836. 75 for absolutely nothing!!! pease help me. Thank you.

Takata recall- the car will at random times not change out of first gear. I can pull over sometimes and restart it multiple time and it would work. My windshield wipers also randomly come on now. And the thermometer sometimes will be blank and sometimes will say -12 when it is 90 degrees, and sometimes it is accurate. And sometimes it will light up saying I am in all gears, park, neutral, drive, reverse. It is very dangerous if I am on the interstate, or going up a hill and this happens I can't go over 35 miles per hour without taking a chance of blowing my engine.

The rear hatch keeps opening by itself while driving. The car is running and moving down the street and you hear the latch on the liftgate activate unlatching it. You get a confirmation notice in the instrument panel that the liftgate is open. It is consistent on the frequency but not caused by a certain event, like hitting a bump or turning or coming to a stop, been going on for about 3 years. Finally did some internet searching and it sounds like this is a fairly common issue with the Pt Cruiser liftgate latches for several model years.

The warning lights on the dashboard go haywire, giving false readings. The gas tank is full, but the false alarm says empty - and the car stalls. I had to pay $1221 for the replacement of elecronic cluster, later on $660 for another electronic part. This didn't help and the car kept giving false alarms. The car would stall on highway.

While driving, the indicator lights on the instrument panel start flashing. The gas gauge, the speedometer, the seat belt light, and other lights, except the check engine light, flash on and off intermittently. Sometimes when the lights are flashing and the indicators are flucuating back and forth, the car has slowed as if it was going to stop. It has not stopped yet but the car did engage in some bucking action. If I stop the car and start it again after putting it in park, generally the lights do not flash for the rest of day. I took the car to my mechanic many times in reference to this issue. They could not find the source of the problem. My mechanic told me to take the car to the dealer. I took it to the dealer, they kept it for two days and were unable to duplicate and therefore diagnose the problem. My car has had every conceivable test and has had parts replaced and nothing has stopped the instrument panel from flashing and the car nearly stalling. I contacted Chrysler corp. Customer service who was not helpful. They simply put on hold for 45 minutes to deal with my complaint. I have looked on-line and this seems to be a problem with Pt Cruisers. Chrsyler is employing risk management for this problem. I hope no one is killed.

When driving vehicle the steering capability occasionally seizes and vehicle cannot be turned for a few moments. This is very dangerous since it can happen at a turn in the road. Also, at stop lights the car tries to jolt forward. Again this is occurs at inconsistent times. Additionally the car dies in idle when the temperature outside rises above 60 degrees. The check engine light came on and when code was read it stated the cooling system was in need of repair. Upon further investigation into the issue we found the fan worked but was not being switched on. So we replaced the fan switch. Immediately it blew the switch. The mechanics cannot identify the issue. While additional codes just get thrown into the pile. After some research I found that I am not the only one experiencing this issue. I check often to see if something has been recalled or if anyone has found a solution that provides lasting change but I have not found any advice or solution that actually fixes the issue. These issues are reoccurring so I am stating the last occurrence which was just this morning.

My car was idling and than I drove it home on a city street in our neighborhood. About 4 minutes away from my house. Dling in park; seatbelt light kept dinging on; speedometer kept jumping back and forth from 0-100; idling at traffic stop; car shutters like it will cut off; speedometer jumps around while car is not moving. Pcm/tcm replaced multiple time; battery loses charge for no known reason; have had problems w/engine light coming on, pay for sensors and parts needed only for the same issue to happen. These cars are dangerous! something needs to be done to fix this issue. I am a single mom, my son and I were in the car and we were scared. Could of caused an accident.

Driving at low speed, intermittent dash lights flicker, dash warning icons flash on and off, and car 'stumbles' and dies for a few seconds! then restarts ok! very intermittent. . . Has happened on surface streets only so far, but on the freeway, this could be very dangerous! where is the recall on this?????.

Takata problem car gauges goes up and down while driving then car losses power and shuts never know when it may happen and mechanics can't seems too find the problem scared to drive but all I have.

In addition, after waiting a few minutes with the key in the ignition, the vehicle independently restarted. The failure recurred three times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed, but the technician could not find a failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 159,000.

Upon starting the car, the gauge lights flash and bells ding, and the gas gauge fluctuated wildly. Has done this several times. So far, it has stopped doing that pretty quickly. The last time, I did notice the car seemed to have a slight whishy noise and seemed like the power was weak. In the past there have been a few times that the car would continue running after I turned it off. The button on the gear shift has to be jiggled a little to be able to remove the key.

That is the real reason they discontinued them! someone needs ti step in. You all have received enough complaints where something should be done immediately.

Car engine shuts off without warning while driving and/or while making turns, or after coming to a stop and steering freezes; engine revs up and down while driving and cannot accelerate; difficulty restarting; interior light blinks and all dashboard gauges suddenly ceased working; replaced rear quarter glass, broken fastener caused car to flood. Part recall no. G01 and I had it replaced. Car has been inspected by mechanics and issues cannot detected nor fixed.

Electrical dash board, gauges - rpm, gas, temp, go around up and down wildly causes sudden deceleration. All trouble lights come on, battery, seat belt, oil, air bag and go on then off. I had this happened 7 yrs ago and dealer would not repair until dash board was not working. Then dash board completely stopped working and dash board was replaced under warranty. Now it is acting up again. Reading all the complaints. There are over 10 complaints from all over the county about the same issue. Today I was able to finally take video/picture of the trouble lights coming on and off. The dials and lights were going on and off going all the way around and all the way back down again. There are so many complaints about this unsafe issue.

When driving on the dash board where it shows your mph below. All the lights will flash on engine, battery, oil, air bag, seatbelt, gas. All will flash on instant deceleration instant slow down. The dials will go up and down wild. Over 5 years ago this happened the dealer would only replace when the dash board stopped working completely. Finally it stopped working I had it replaced under extended warranty. 3 moths ago it started happening again. Flashing lights, all dials going up, down, and around. Yesterday I had severe deceleration on the freeway. Extremely scary and unsafe. I pulled all the way over and drove in the slow lane. Looking/reading on here there are 4 other people from all over the united states with the same complaints. I wrote a complaint on here over 4 years ago. There is something seriously wrong with this vehicle. It needs to be looked into from a outside party. There needs to be a recall before someone is driving on the freeway and the car completely stops. There needs to be a remedy at Chrysler expense.

When randomly driving all the lights on the dashboard go crazy, the fuel gauge goes to empty even when it's a full tank, the car loses power and the engine starts to stall. . . It's very scary because where I drive there are busy highways and I'm scared too death I'm going to get killed or kill someone.

As I was driving my car all the gauges and warning lights came on,gas gauge needle went to e(tank was full), lost power as I was driving. Took the car to my mechanic they tried to duplicate the problem, of course they couldn't. Then the engine light came on. Put the car in the garage. . . Again! a week later the problem returned. My job requires me to work across all 3 shifts, I am frighten to drive my car, I often have my grandchildren in the car with. They were in the car March 25,2016 when the car began bucking and jerking while we were driving home. I was on a street doing 45 mph, when the cars speed dropped to 5 mph. I was impeding traffic, and cars were passing me on curves! I was on another site and see 93 other complaints, for the same issue. I am thinking there will need to be a loss of life before Chrysler corp. Does something to correct this serious problem.

Engine died and restarted today on the freeway 3/2/16.

2006 Chrysler p. T. Time after time engine indicator lights come one, sometimes engine dies. Have been able to re-start in motion, but when will this become disasterous? per internet, hundreds of folks have the same problem, yet Chrysler nor nhstb does zilch. Dealer has no clue after doing diagnostic. Will never buy another Chrysler product. So much for government giving a s---! this week it has happened everytime the car has been driven.

On numerous occasions while driving, all the lights on the panel starts flashing, all the gages go to zero and the car slows down, sometimes coming to a complete stop. When it slows, it seems to kick back into gear and I am able to drive normally. At times, I have to put to pull off highway completely and turn off engine for a minute or so before starting it again. It is happening so frequently now that even pulling off to shut it down for awhile is no guarantee that it won't start acting up. . This is a common occurrence, on the 16th of October was the last time I experiencedthe pproblem.

I started up my Pt Cruiser and all warning lights came on except check engine light and the chime came on like door open or lights still on. Idled fine but lights did not turn off till I turned off engine, started with no lights after. . I see that this a problem reading several other posts.

All lights on instrument panel flashes on-off. Sometimes the gauges will zero-out and go back to normal position. Sometimes when the lights flash and gauges zero-out, there will be a quick power loss. Maybe 2-3% of the time power loss will be substantial almost needed to pull over. More often than not, it seems to happen more in the heat and possibly rain or day after a heavy rain.

Almost 3 months ago, the indicator lights on the instrument panel started flashing. The gas gauge, the speedometer, the seat belt light, and other lights, except the check engine light, flashed on and off intermittently. I took it to my mechanic who could not find the source of the problem even using the diagnostic tool. In July, after servicing the car (tune-up) and with my reporting the continuation of the intermittent flashing, my mechanic told me to take the car to the dealer. I took it to the dealer, they kept it for two days and were unable to duplicate and therefore diagnose the problem. For that I paid $145. 00. Sometimes when the lights are flashing and the indicators are acting crazy, the car has slowed as if it was going to stop. On Tuesday of this week, the car shut itself off completely when I started to drive after stopping for a traffic signal. I was able to get the car started again after putting it in park and then turning the key in the ignition. I contacted Chrysler corp. Customer service who were not helpful. I have looked on-line and this seems to be a problems with the cruiser. I am afraid this stoppage will happen on the expressway and I will be injured or killed. If this is and has been a problem, would you not think Chrysler would try to fix it before someone is injured or killed. I do plan to take it back to the dealer again, however, I am concerned about my safety and I do not wish to continue to pay for unfruitful diagnoses. I hope you are able to investigate - maybe they will try to find a "fix". Thank you.

I have a crourser pt turbo in 2006 when it began the installation of defective tipm and comes from erratic in different functions: 1 - does not change speed box, able to random start, when I turn off from neutral (n) sometimes corrects the problem at the first opportunity and then is repeated either on other occasions. 2. Also not start on some occasions. 3 slate in opportunities does not indicate the temperature outside or indicated incorrectly and also leaves dial speedometer. 4. The speed of the fan motor does not change when the temperature of the motor increases and is over heats up to the point that you must stop it. 5 air conditioning sometimes will not cool and I have to stop and turn it off and start it again. I've spent on mechanics some hundreds of dollars without resolve the situation, until a mechanic friend informed me that the models from 2006 that have totally integrated power module.

Ignition cut out on freeway. I jiggled ignition key and power was resumed.

I tried rolling my windows up with the electric window switch & smoke started coming from the electric window switches on the dashboard.
