My 2005 Pt Cruiser is equipped with anti-lock brakes and a traction control system. During a recent snow storm the indicator lights for both of these systmes illuminated. I have just returned from my local Chrysler dealer, who has informed that the lights came on because these systems were not functioning. The reason for this, they believe, is that snow had collected in the wheels. As I understand it, their posistion is that the anti-lock brakes and traction control systems provided on this car will function except during a snow storm with wet, stick, slippery snow. Is this typical of these types of systems? it makes no sense to me that car companies be allowed to provide safetysystems which don't work when they are most likely to be needed. By the way, I live in new hampshire. We get snow regularly. It is frequently wet and sticky.

: the contact stated while driving 35 mph with the brake pedal depressed the vehicle would not stop. It was driven off the road and the emergency brake was used to stop the vehicle. It was slowly driven to an independent brake shop who determined a hose ruptured and the hose was replaced. The dealer was alerted. There was a NHTSA recall, # 04v481000, regarding the service brakes; hydraulic; antilock. The VIN was not included in the recall.

While on cruise control and going up hill I have to step on the brakes and they would not release. I had to step on the brake pedal several times with increasing force until the cruise control disengauged. I have done thistime on my drive home from work and it requires much more force going uphill then on level ground. The first time this happened there was almost an accident but I had the additional time to step on the brakes several time to get the cruise control to turn-off.

Reported on 11/18/2003 to service advisor 15 timothy m coy sr of nick abraham Chrysler that parking brake will not hold vehicle from moving. They adjusted brake. Ife parked subject vehicle on 4â° grade parking lot or slight grade. She set parking brake and left car parked, she returned to find that the vehicle had rolled 100 ft. Down the hill and was sitting against parking lot guard rail. Car was locked and parking brake lever was in same position as she had left it. After looking at car's damage I tried parking brake and I found that it would not hold as well, in same lever position.
Consumer states the brakes wear out prematurely.

05/19/2004, while traveling from knoxville TN, on I-40 in a rented Pt Cruiser, a chevy blazer changed lanes in front of us as traffic came to a stop. We were already slowing for a constuction zone and were traveling at less than 45 mph. We applied the brakes but they locked up and started to skid, the car almost stopped in time but the brakes went soft and the car luched forward, propeling us into the person in front of us, totaling the pt. We left 25 feet of skid and the car only had 500 miles on it. We rented the car from budget and it had 5 miles on it when we got it. I was under the impression from the owners manual that there is a breaking in procedure for the car. This was not followed if it is a rental with 5 miles on it. I have filed a claim with Chrysler they sent me a letter claiming they "inspected the vehicle and found nothing wrong with it. " I don't believe them for a second. The vn is 3c4fy48b54t308757, my fiancee and I were taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries. If you need and more information I can furnish it upon requst.
