Electrical wiring shorting out. While driving the car the electrical wiring will short out causing all the dashboard gauges to go haywire and the car loses all power and stalls out.
It was my nephew car, driving my mother. My mother was injured with internal bleeding, fractures, and 1/3-1/2 of her body bruised. She says the seat belt didnt lock, and she flew up a bit from her seat. She had a huge bruise under her thigh too. She was sitting in the passenger seat. My nephew had little bruising in the driver seat. The other car that was involved, the driver was ok. . And walking too. My issue is does this car have complaints about the seat belt not locking in a crash? please let me know, as I would like the car investigated before they let the insurance company get it, as it was totaled per them, as it hit head on with another car saide.

Almost 3 months ago, the indicator lights on the instrument panel started flashing. The gas gauge, the speedometer, the seat belt light, and other lights, except the check engine light, flashed on and off intermittently. I took it to my mechanic who could not find the source of the problem even using the diagnostic tool. In July, after servicing the car (tune-up) and with my reporting the continuation of the intermittent flashing, my mechanic told me to take the car to the dealer. I took it to the dealer, they kept it for two days and were unable to duplicate and therefore diagnose the problem. For that I paid $145. 00. Sometimes when the lights are flashing and the indicators are acting crazy, the car has slowed as if it was going to stop. On Tuesday of this week, the car shut itself off completely when I started to drive after stopping for a traffic signal. I was able to get the car started again after putting it in park and then turning the key in the ignition. I contacted Chrysler corp. Customer service who were not helpful. I have looked on-line and this seems to be a problems with the cruiser. I am afraid this stoppage will happen on the expressway and I will be injured or killed. If this is and has been a problem, would you not think Chrysler would try to fix it before someone is injured or killed. I do plan to take it back to the dealer again, however, I am concerned about my safety and I do not wish to continue to pay for unfruitful diagnoses. I hope you are able to investigate - maybe they will try to find a "fix". Thank you.
As I was driving there was suddenly a loud explosion and the smell of black powder (like a gunshot) and I was hit very hard in the upper right chest, driver's side, by a shock wave that felt as if I had been shot. The odor was coming from the area near the brake and gas pedals. The air bag light had been coming on and off randomly for months. It never stayed on more than a few seconds. I had had the car in for its big va state inspection, to the tune of $2059. 03, in April at the Chrysler dealership where I have taken it for one year. Air bags are not part of a regular inspection so it was not checked. I was able to drive the car into the nearest Chrysler dealership, by luck it was within a mile of where the incident happened), and asked the men in service, who know me and had serviced this car for ten years, to come out and smell it. They concurred it smelled as if an explosion had happened inside the car. The airbag had not deployed; nor should it have. . . There was no crash or anything. I left the car there. My chest hurt. I contacted Chrysler in detroit and a week later they sent their special va engineer with his computer to check the computer in the car. The other day I received an official letter that my claim was being denied; nothing had been found. So I went over to the dealership and the service man drove it around the lot to give to me. I was going to take it home. He had not put the seat belt on to drive it to me. I got in and the airbag light was on all the time and the seat belt would not extend. I cannot drive the car with an inoperable seat belt and with the air bag light on. It must have been the propellant that hit me in the chest, as the bag did not deploy. It was so fast, so hard, and scared me to death. I reported this to you after it happened, but am re-reporting it now because of the "results" of Chrysler's official inspection.
The driver seat belt will not stay fastened it comes lose and hits me in the face or head as it retracts the failure of it to lock in in this type of circumstance is dangerous and the seat belt is ineffective and makes the car unsafe.
I have a 2005 Chrysler pt curser and the middle seatbelt latch has become completely removed. I did not get in an accident the cause of this issue is unknown. Yesterday the right rear seatbelt buckle broke as well. Now I have one working belt in my back seat and two children. I am extremely dissatisfied and want to know what I can do about it. I have no confidence in the safety of this vehicle and I feel that seat belts should not malfunction let alone completely break for no reason.

A guy pulled out in front of me and to avoid hitting him I slammed on my brakes. My seatbelt never locked so I was thrown forward almost to the steering wheel then slammed backwards into my seat. Now I have whiplash and a bone out of place in my neck up near my skull. I have an emergency room bill for severe headache and am having to pay a chiropractor to try to get it back in place to stop the headaches, if she can't with where it is I may need a surgery I can't afford since insurance won't pay for avoided accidents. If the seat belt had locked I would never have had my whole body thrown forward then backward and could have possibly avoided such a severe neck and back injury.

Stopped at a red light rear ended and pushed into vehicle in front of me front end and rear end damage air bags didnt deploy.
Air bag warning light and chime activated. Indicates no airbag deployment and possibly no srs capability. Per lithia Dodge Chrysler Jeep #4, "witech test codes set, b1b57, b1b55, b1b56, b1b54". "replace pass side front seat belt receiver (buckle), on national backorder no eta at this time". Problem, reduced passenger safety, continues chiming at approximately 60 second intervals and bright red warning light; no fix available.
Driver suffered a diabetic hypoglycemic incident and ran off the road and collided with a guard rail. The accident was a frontal impact that resulted in significant damage to the front bumper, fenders, engine compartment, suspension, and frame. The accident damaged approximately 40' of guard rail, including the end section. During the accident, the air bags did not deploy. The vehicle has a history of intermittent air bag warning light activation, and has undergone replacement of several key components of the control system (I. E. Srs module, clockspring in steering column, and wiring harness under front passenger seat). The vehicle speed at the time of the accident is unknown, but estimated at less than 40mph. Weather was clear, sunny. Traffic was none to light conditions. Road conditions were excellent. Driver suffered minor whiplash neck injury and was treated/released for the hospital emergency department. Should the air bags have deployed in this type of accident? did the prior issues and repairs of the air bag control system have any effect on the air bags not deploying? did the vehicle frontal crush zone and the impact attenuation of the guard rail system affect the deceleration of the vehicle to the point where the air bags did not need to deploy? internet research of the air bag warning light issue (unconfirmed blog-type entries) indicates that other vehicles of this make, model and year (including 1 - 2 prior model years) have been involved in front end collisions where the air bags did not deploy.
The airbag light and chimes would come on whenever a passenger would sit in the front passenger seat. Codes b1b56 and b1b54 came up. The seatbelt buckle was faulty and needed to be replaced for $267.
The front passenger-side airbag sensor in the passenger seatbelt quit working after normal use. This causes the airbag light to go on whenever a passenger is sitting in the seat. The seatbelt needs to be replaced at a cost of $300. 00.
Our 2008 Pt Cruiser was going north and a woman exiting an interstate going east ran a red light and hit us. The impact ripped off the front bumper, destroyed the engine, and twisted the front of the cruiser so the passenger door could not open. We were going 35mph I estimate her speed to be 55mph. None of the air bags in the cruiser deployed and the seat belt in the passenger side did not hold the passenger back. The passenger in the cruiser hit the dash causing injuries. The seat belt did not lock or tighten at all. This has to be a defective seat belt because the driver's side seat belt held them back.
I had to have my passenger front side seat belt replaced too as the air bag light and sound would go off when any one sat in that seat. My replacement was under warranty.
This is the 2nd Pt Cruiser that I have owned. The first one was great! but. . . This one!! ongoing problems since we have owned the car!!!! seat belt wouldn't unlock couldn't get out of car. I was locked in. Someone had to open door from outside. Lights always flickering. Loss power. Acts up while driving. Finally got so bad that the car would just stall out. Took to dealership and was told they couldn't find anything wrong. They said. . . And I quote "remember we didn't do anything. " why would they say that? the latest. . . Lights flickering, radio going on and off stopped at a store. When I came couldn't unlock the car with my remote. Had to use key to get in, alarm went off, had to jump in and start car to turn alarm off. Pulled out into traffic and the car quit. Completely stalled out. Turned everything off, put in park and it started up but I parked it at a friends that lived one block away. Was afraid to drive it. 3 hours later went to pick car up and nothing worked. No lights no juice no click no nothing got it jumped started. Went straight to advanced auto because it was late. Alternator ok battery ok I just want to get rid of it but don't want someone else stuck with this lemon what do I do?????.
Seat belt tensioner jams in middle rear seat of 2001 Chrysler Pt Cruiser. I previously paid to repair this exact same problem in 2004 and it has happened again. Contacted Chrysler and the local dealership but the only solution seems for me to pay to fix it again. I have been driving cars for almost 30 years and have never had a seat belt problem. I mean, seat belts aren't supposed to break - your life depends on them. This problem occurred in August 2004 and again in August 2009.
The driver's side seat belt locked into position & would not protract. Have tried numerous times to get it to do so but have been unable.
The contact owns a 2004 Chrysler Pt Cruiser. The contact stated that the webbing/threading that holds the connector into the rear center seat belt receptacle had completely deteriorated. He feels that if a crash occurred, the seat belt would fail to hold or support the person in the seat. The current and failure mileages were 48,000. The consumer stated the service advisor and parts associate agreed that the seat was unsafe. The cost for parts is $321. 68 and the cost of labor is $324. 75. The consumer provided the repair invoice. Updated 09/05/07.
