Three problems related to automatic transmission park/neutral start switch have been reported for the 1997 Chrysler Sebring. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Dt: when the consumer attempted to apply the brake, the vehicle continued to accelerate and consequently, the consumer hit another motorist. The vehicle was also jumping out of gear due to the recall on the trans axle floor shifter/ignition park interlock.
There is a recall listed on your website (NHTSA campaign id #98v183000) in regards to a key issue. My vehicle is a 1997 Chrysler Sebring - 87000 original miles, I am the original owner and Chrysler is refusing to honor this recall, saying that my car is out of warranty and that the recall did not apply to my specific VIN# - please help.
The driver was able to shift from park into drive without foot being on the brake. This happened twice. Once while the vehicle was running, and once when the vehicle was turned off. Problem was reported to the dealership. The vehicle has not been checked for the problem. Please provide any further nformation.
