Engine Cooling System problems of the 2002 Chrysler Sebring

Six problems related to engine cooling system have been reported for the 2002 Chrysler Sebring. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Engine Cooling System problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2010

My car displays the low oil pressure light when idle. There is now the presence of coolant in my oil and white smoke coming from under my hood and from the exhaust. With all the complaints posted and documented about the Chrysler/Dodge 2. 7l engine, I am unable to afford incurring a mechanic bill just to find out I need a new engine. The white smoke and coolant/oil mix happened on new years day and I have ceased driving the car for fear of seizing the engine.

2 Engine Cooling System problem

Failure Date: 09/11/2008

The engine died. Taken to repair shop, no compression, engine shot. 63,000.

3 Engine Cooling System problem

Failure Date: 08/29/2008

The coolant in my auto was gone, when I had to stop in traffic when I saw smoke. Luckily, I was near 7/11 where I could but the proper mix of coolant. The next morning the coolant had disappeared, I called the dealership. Added more coolant went to the automotive store purchased more coolant opened the hood and the coolant had one again disappeared. . . There was never any residual on the driveway pavement. The man at the automotive store look at the radiator and said there is your problem, its leaking out of the crack, a hairline crack in radiator, which caused leakage in cooling system. I caught this problem. The service department said these radiators always have problems, cracking, braking. Chrysler knew these radiator are junk yet they continue to install them. . . They are plastic, not metal. Under the 100,000 mileage warranty only the engine is covered. This is ridiculous because the cooling system is an integral part of the engine. . . Without a radiator (cooling system) the engine would get so hot, the car would catch fire. Ii have now been stuck with a $1,000 bill for the replacement of the defective radiator. Who knows whether the part being replaced will last 5,000 miles or crack next week. The plastic motor equipment is dangerous, it is a tragedy waiting to happen. The dealership vis-a-vis Chrysler needs to pay for this poor quality merchandise and put these items under warranty with the engine. I could have been killed, just suppose I had been on the I-495 in fast traffic. I had on several previous occasions asked the dealership to check the coolant and the said nothing was wrong even though itwas only half full. Disposition recall all plastic radiator, replace with medal or something known to be safe. I've been buying cars since 1961 never had a problem. By chrsyler own admission they knew these radiators were fatalty. Have radiator replace no cost to me!.

4 Engine Cooling System problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2007

The water outlet housing on a Chrysler Sebring 2. 7l engine year 2002. According to the parts personnel, there is a large number of failures regarding this specific housing which causes overheating etc.

5 Engine Cooling System problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2005

2002 Chrysler Sebring engine failed. Diagnosed as excessive oil sludge. Dealer denied claim citing inadequate oil changes which is incorrect, oil change was done when specified, oil light never had to come on. I bought the car new and had it maintained. What happened: the car stopped after a loud tapping noise in the engine. I was driving to work and had to stop immediately. I sent complaint letter to Chrysler's ceo and they refuse to fix. They want to charge $6000 to repair. Chrysler should replace those engines. Too many complaints. I cannot afford to fix car and I still have a loan on the car but it is not driving.

6 Engine Cooling System problem

Problem: vibration noise under hood loss of cool air with air conditioner dealership replaced expansion valve.
