Seven problems related to service brakes have been reported for the 2002 Chrysler Sebring. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2021

Rear disc brakes. I had a repair shop and a dealership assess what they both found to be what's called a backplate. It mounts onto both left and right spindles. The backplate on left and right hold or guide the pads in place on both sides of the caliper. The pins show to be almost rusted out. The dealership told me the left and right backplate is unavailable and obsolete. So my options are to find a shop that can fabricate the parts or modify the rear brake system. Truly a poor design. A prototype that slipped through the cracks. I have invested thousands over the years into the vehicle so I would have a problem free efficient ride when I retire. I now had to finance another vehicle because the Chrysler Sebring is no longer driveable. The dealership told me 100. 00 to scrap it. Unacceptable! I will continue to pursue my options. I invested alot of blood money into the vehicle and the help I received to date is park it or junk it. That is not even a remote consideration.

2 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/19/2015

I purchased this vehicle last Dec,2014. . It is a used vehicle though, its in very good condition. I was backing out of my drive way approx. 2 weeks after I bought it & the right side passenger side the suspension, arm & ball joint just fell out. . The day prior to this I heard a definite knock from that wheel base. In fact when I was backing out of the drive, I was on my way to the mechanic. Well, being stranded, I had to call a tow service to haul it in for repair. . They said they could replace it,& the charge for the assembly would cost $112. 00 plus. . Having it replaced & repaired. It is now 10 months later & the knocking is back & my concern is that it will fall out when I'm driving causing an awful accident. This is wear I stand now w/ this issue that is recorded under your recall descriptions. Thank you. .

3 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2004

Serious vibration when braking. Had to have front and rear brakes replaced and all rotors resurfaced.

4 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2004

Driving north on I-75 I lost control over my 2002 Chrysler Sebring convertible - the car veered left crossed one lane and hit the median concrete divider. 2 failures were the brakes and the steering became unresponsive as I was unable to apply the brakes and unable to steer the car. There was no skid marks reported by the police report. The driver airbag ripped and did not successfully blow. The passenger airbag deployed properly. I suspect that the main cause cause of this accident was the lack of steering, which caused the car to veer left and hit the center concrete divider. The car is currently in storage in royal oak, michigan and is a total loss.

5 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/14/2002

The braking system on our 2002 Chrysler Sebring seems inadequate. Hard applicaton on a very cold and wet road at highway speeds does not result in brake lock up. I understand lock up is bad, but certainly the car should have enough braking power to lock the brakes under those conditions.
