1 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 07/09/2025

My passenger airbag spontaneously deployed without an impact when it was parked. This shattered the windshield and expelled plastic dashboard pieces and glass everywhere. My daughter and I had just exited the car so there were no injuries. Had we not stopped this may have deployed on the road or if my passenger had waited in the car caused serious injuries. I contacted chrystler to report this safety issue and they said this is no longer their responsibility due to my cars age and environmental factors. This happened 7/9/25 and the damages and airbag system is available to inspect. I have witnesses to seeing the deployment without impact and awaiting video footage from the business. No warning lights on the dashboard occurred. This is a very well maintained vehicle with very low miles.

2 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 11/25/2024

At the time of collision the airbags did not deploy correctly. The airbag seems to have burst at the seams and projectlies of debris and chemicals came from the air bag instead. I hit my head on the windshield and hit my chest on steering wheel. I was burned on my arms, hands and ribs/chest. I have pulmonary and neurological injury. As well as changes to my sight and hearing. My car filled with thick "smoke" that was hot and made us choke and gasp for air. We breathed in these chemicals. My two disabled children were also injured by the chemicals.

3 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 11/25/2024

The contact owned a 2006 Chrysler Sebring. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact vehicle was involved in a crash. The contact rear-ended the vehicle that was in front of the contact vehicle. The contact's vehicle was damaged to the front driver's side of the vehicle. In addition, the air bags were deployed. The contact stated that the vehicle had a burning odor and lots of smoke. The police and paramedics were at the crash scene. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a local tow yard. The vehicle was condemned total lost by the insurance company. The contact's two minor children were occupants in the vehicle at the time of the crash. The contact was transported to the local hospital. The contact sustained burns to both left and right forearms, her right thumb, nerve damage to her left forearm and bruised ribs. In addition, the chemical from the air bags entered the contact's nose and the contact had a continuous cough. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 96,000.

4 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 08/29/2016

Takata recall:I was involved with a collision. I was crossing a two lane highway that was southbound, and I was going westbound crossing the other vehicle hit my front passenger side, both the passenger and the driver airbags deployed. I was in the car alone. When the plastic steering wheel cover partially popped off, and the airbag came out, the plastic cover cut my right hand 3rd finger, 80% severed the tendon and chipped the bone. Had to be surgically repaired. Date of the accident was 8/29/2016. That was my right hand. My left hand was bruised and scratched. Due to the accident, the car is not repairable. Incident #16fl099929.

5 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2015

2006 Chrysler Sebring horn blow intermittently. I see on the internet that others have had this problem and because it is located with the airbag may be a safety issue. This seems to happen more in the winter when it is cold , I have had to unplug my horn in the winter so that it will no sound.

6 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 12/04/2014

I have been communicating with Chrysler cs about the takata air-bag recall. Chrysler has informed me that they are planning a recall in 4 states, one of which is florida for "registered" vehicles, no definite dates, etc. My vehicle is not registered in florida but is there about 6 months a year. Because it is not "registered" in florida, Chrysler has no plans to include it in their recall. Please force Chrysler to recall all vehicles in the us, or at least all of those that spend time in the areas of greatest risk.

7 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 12/04/2014

With soooo many complaints about the horn issue located in the same spot as the airbag no one has put the pieces together about hows this may be caused by the airbag issue. The horn only has major issues when the humidity is high. This is the same reason the airbags are having issues and deploying with shrapnel. Can someone fight for the consumer here there is over 70 complaints about the horn which the component is shared with the airbag. This is occurring during high humidity maybe as a warning something is wrong with the component harnessing the horn and airbag????? or the airbag pressure is triggering the horn before the pressure builds to deploy for no reason other than humid weather.

8 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2014

Horn started to sound when I was in a parking lot at low to no speed. It would not stop. I had to pull the fuse to disconnect. Dealer said entire horn with airbag assembly needed to be replaced. I was not under warranty, but I noticed the repair ticket had a cost in the range of $700 to $1,000 to complete the job. I bet a lot of people just leave horn and airbag disconnected rather than pay that much money. I have seen many people complain about the same.

9 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2014

Horn or alarm randomly goes off. Impossible to stop, it does so eventually on its own. This is on entry to the car, whether by key, key fob, or even opening trunk. . And when driving at speed randomly. Is this not a serious safety issue? did a dealer check and they could not find anything. No recalls, no problems from Chrysler. . . Hard to believe since I see many complaints online that point to a horn pad assembly problem that costs $1000 to fix. This is a low mileage low used car, I am the second owner, the first being my father. Not a lot of horn blowing. Took in again to dealer, called Chrysler, no info from either. Returned to the dealer with mechanic and replicated the problem, and he finally agreed it might be the horn assembly, and removed the horn fuse. Apparently there is a foil that gets worn through causing a short activating the horn, and the only way to fix is a reassembly. This is not a fix, this is a faulty manufacturing issue (materials skimping to cut corners). This is not a way to be a long time manufacturer and maintain the quality expected of american cars. Its awful and unsafe. They also led the mechanic around in circles testing computers and all sorts of things when 5 min on the internet directed me to the problem and after a quick test proved true. Such a waste of time.

10 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2014

Horn randomly goes off (like the alarm). At first it was at unlock, now it is also when driving at speed. Totally random. Today it went off in the driveway, at a parking lot, and then again when I was driving home. Took to a dealership last week, they could not locate a fault. 5 min on google and I saw many complaints on a foil that gets worn over time causing contact shorts in the horn assembly or pad. . . Apparently a $1100 fix. This is a safety issue, and it is a faulty part, it should most certainly be a recall. I have only driven this car 31000 miles.

11 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2014

Driving down the road when my horn suddenly started going off. Did not turn off until I beat on the steering wheel. Continues to do this every day now, scaring drivers around me and there is nothing I can do about it.

12 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2014

Back in January, my horn in my 2006 Sebring started blowing between 9 & 11 pm for some unknown reason. It lasted for about 40 seconds. I did think much of it at the time, but it started happening nightly. Practically every night the horns will blow for about 40 to 60 seconds. It seems to happen whenever there is a temperature drop outside. But now it will going off sometimes when I start the car and sometime while I am driving down the road. I have to hit the horn to stop it while driving to get it to stop. Other drivers and pedestrians seem to panic when it goes off because it is scares the hell of you when it goes off and there doesn't seem to be any danger in the area. My neighbors are getting a little annoyed with horn going off at night. It even when off at work while parked in the parking lot during the day. Chrysler needs to address this issue, because from what I have researched on this matter shows that this is a common problem with many Sebring owners. Many of them do not even know that they can report this and most likely are footing the $1000 price tag for the defect.

13 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2013

In the beginning, the horn would sound randomly while the car was parked and unoccupied. It would continue to sound until we adjusted the steering wheel or pushed on the horn. However, now the horn sounds randomly while driving. It doesn't stop until I am able to pull over and remove the fuse. This creates an unsafe situation with other drivers. The dealership said that it was some sort of electrical failure in the horn and airbag within the steering wheel. We replaced the fuse that controls this mechanism, but it didn't work. The horn and airbag are an integral piece, so in order to replace the horn, we have to replace the airbag. This would cost more than $800. Our easiest solution was to remove the fuse that controls the horn/ airbag. This means that I'm driving it without an airbag or horn. This is extremely unsafe for other motorists and myself. I contacted Chrysler. They stated that there was nothing they could do, because the horn does not fall under any of the warranties and there has not been a recall for this part. There are hundreds of complaints online regarding the airbag and horn! it is very unsafe and common, therefore it should be investigated for a recall. I noticed that on the NHTSA site, people are categorizing this problem as "steering," "electrical," or "airbag," because there is no category for "horn. " I hope that this is not keeping the NHTSA from recognizing how many people are effected. Please investigate it.

14 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2013

2006 Chrysler Sebring, horn randomly goes off either while vehicle engine is on or off. . . . I took out the horn fuse and now have been driving unsafely without horn and apparently airbags. This vehicle has been in a few accidents and the air bags never went off. This needs to be recalled, there are many people with this problem, and not only are we driving around without a horn, but also no airbags. If I or anyone else gets injured in my car due to this matter there will be a lawsuit against Chrysler, and I am not the suing type, but I purchased this vehicle brand new and should have the ability to be safe and due to this issue, I cannot. What does it take for a recall. . . . Serious injury or death?.

15 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2013

Well it first happened at night my wife thought someone was breaking into the car I never caught what was going on until the fourth time I finally herd it it was my horn going off for 60 seconds or more and I could not get it stop it would go off at night around 12 or 2 or 3,4 in morning then it eventually it got worse started going off at all times then the horn was not usable but would still go off when it chose to. Then it started to go off when I was driving. I stopped driving the car and have since unhooked the battery. There are many complaints online of people with same issue recently I hooked the battery up to see if maybe it was ok wrong it blared right away and so I unhooked the battery again.

16 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2013

While driving the horn will intermittently turn on. No amount of pressing on the horn button will make it stop. This especially will happen on cold days. If the horn is applied, it might also stay on for a period of time. After consulting with the Chrysler dealer, I am being told that the remedy for the situation is to change the entire airbag module, since the horn button is a part of that assembly. This assembly can not be taken apart for repair. After looking on the internet, I see that this is a quite common problem for this vehicle. I feel that this is a safety issue that Chrysler need to address. The repair cost is also so high $700-$1000 that most people will rather disconnect the horn than pay to have the problem fixed.

17 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 12/16/2012

The horn goes off by itself. When the car is parked or it is moving. This happens at night and it disturbs my neighbors. Sometimes it starts blowing while I'm driving. There are several complaints about this problem. On the carcomplaints. Com website. This is an electrical problem and a customer was told it had something to do with the airbag. A mechanic disabled the airbag, which is very dangerous. There are 38 complaints on the website. Any electrical problem like this can be very hazardous to the passengers inside the vehicle. Chrysler needs to fix this problem!.

18 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2012

Horn/air bag module broken. Horn goes off randomly while driving, parking or unlocking/locking the doors. I drove into a garage on the way to work and they diagnosed the problem as the horn/airbag module was broken. The estimate was $1100; however, I opted for the less expensive, unsafe remedy and just had him disconnect the horn. (big safety hazard). There have been so many complaints for this and im curious why this has not been recalled. Its clearly a major safety issue, I scared an elderly driver this morning, my horn was blowing non-stop and she froze in the intersection. Very unsafe!.

19 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 10/26/2012

While exiting the driveway, the horn just randomly began going off and would not stop. Nothing we did would stop it. We turned off the car, and began pulling all fuses and relays associated with the horn until it stopped. When we put the relay back in, the horn went off again. The only way to keep the horn off, is to pull the relay- otherwise it blows 24/7. We replace the relay with a new one; same thing- horn blowing 24/7. So now I am driving around without a horn, which is a very dangerous thing to be doing. Not to mention I can not pass a safety inspection without it. Based on our research, the only way to fix it, is to replace the "guts" under the air bag, which means replacing the air bag as well. How is this not a safety issue? Chrysler should be issuing a recall for this!!!!.

20 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2012

I used the horn and it didn't shut off when I removed my hand from the steering wheel. I had to remove the fuse to get it to turn off. I replaced the fuse but the horn would still go off by itself at random times. A dealer told me the clock spring in the steering wheel was faulty and needed to be replaced. Apparently, this is a common problem with this vehicle, and it is very unsafe since it affects the airbags as well as the horn.

21 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2012

Horn continuously blows. Pulled fuse to stop horn blowing and disabling the air bag.

22 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 02/13/2012

I applied pressure to the steering wheel to activate the horn and the horn would not stop blaring after I removed my hand. The only way to get it to stop was to lean heavily on the steering wheel where the horn is. I was in heavy traffic with no place to pull over, so it was a very dangerous situation. Ultimately, I had to remove the fuse that controls the horn and incidentally the air bags, rendering both the horn and air bags inoperable.

23 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 01/23/2012

Several times over the last few month the horn just randomly goes off in a long blast. It will continue until you beat and bang on the steering wheel and column.

24 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2012

Horn started going off by itself on my ride to work on a very cold morning. Has gone on several other times since while driving. Horn remains on for several minutes each time until I can safely pull to the side and hit the horn area of the stearing whel with a hammer to get it to turn off. This is a huge safety issue, the horn doesnt work properly when I need it to and it turns on on its own when I dont need it to cauzing a driving hazard for myself and other drivers on the road. From my research I have seen that pulling the fuse will also disable to airbag creating a double safety issue. This should absolutely be recalled by Chrysler as this appears to be a common safety issue in many of their makes, models and years.

25 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 10/19/2011

Car alarm or horn will go off in the morning when its wet/damp whenever I unlock with clicker or manually with a key. It will go off for about 30 seconds then shut off. Only until recently did the horn start going off while driving in the morning for 20-30second spurts. This would happen on freeways and residential roads. Had to disconnect the horn relay which I understand is also associated with the airbag to stop the honking. I do not feel comfortable driving without an airbag but that is the only short-time solution I have. I also understand to fix it is well over 1000 dollars and even then is not a permanent fix.

26 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2011

The horn begin blowing intermittently whenever the steering wheel was turned, then whenever there was a bump in the road, then while in the garage. Banging on the steering wheel sometimes stopped it. Local mechanic diagnosed the problem as the horn contacts that are part of the airbag in the steering wheel. Replacement cost quoted as $998. On searching the internet, I find many reports of the same problem. Chrysler should issue a recall for this problem and refund the cost to any who have paid to fix the problem.

27 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 03/21/2011

In March or so of 2011, while driving, all of a sudden my horn just goes off for no reason whatsover and would not stop. I took it to a local mechanic and was informed that its a factory problem with the clockspring. This part however is attached to the air bag assembly & to replace it, the entire air bag assembly must be also replaced which is over $600 just for the part & another $1000 for labor. My only option was to completely disconnect the air bag assembly as its the only way to stop the horn. So now I have to drive the car without the air bag system. This is a direct safety defect!! I spoke with a Chrysler rep & they informed me that they had never heard of this problem with that years model, even though there are sooo many complaints online all over the USA about it. . . How can this not be a safety recall??? I will never buy another Chrysler!!.

28 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2010

I own a 2006 Chrysler Sebring, the horn goes off on its own and I have to pull the fuse to get it to stop. There is no TSB or recall for this but it is a common problem.

29 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2010

Like many others, I had to pull the fuse for my horn, disabling my air bag because the horn kept going off. Why hasn't it been recalled?.

30 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2009

Horn went off would not stop on chrylser 2006 Sebring. Fuse was pulled to stop horn disabled horn & airbag according to 3/4's of others reports. Please execute manufacturer recall.

31 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2009

Over the course of a year the horn would sound at any time on its own, would not stop without extreme force on the button; dealership states a full airbag assembly has to be purchased at a cost of over $600. 00, because the horn button is attached to the airbag.

32 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2009

My 2006 Sebring is having horn problems again. In August of 2007, I had it in the dealer to do a warranty fix on the "air bag module", which was causing my horn to sound at odd times and prolonged durations. Now, in April of 2009 the problem has returned. This time there is no warranty coverage and the price to fix is ridiculously high. I have searched online and have found this problem to be very common with Chrysler vehicles. I think Chrysler should issue a recall on affected vehicles. A working horn is a safety requirement in many states. My state inspection is due by the end of this month and I have to have it fixed in order to legally drive in texas.

33 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2009

Horn started to sound when I was in a parking lot at low to no speed. It would not stop. I had to pull the fuse to disconnect. Dealer said entire horn with airbag assembly needed to be replaced. I was under warranty, but I noticed the repair ticket had a cost in the range of $700 to $1,000 to complete the job. I bet a lot of people just leave horn and airbag disconnected rather than pay that much money, especially if the car is older.

34 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2009

45,000 miles on my 2006 Sebring and the horn starts blowing for no reason on January 1, 2009. The horn has blown sitting in garage, parking lot, driveway & while driving in traffic. I would say it was doing it about every other day, sometimes twice a day. It will not shut off, must keep hitting & pounding on steering pad to get it to stop. Finally had to disconnect the horn. I didn't want to get stuck somewhere with a dead battery or worse, get in an accident trying to get that horn to shut off. So now I'm driving without a horn, also not safe. I can still hear a clicking sound in the steering pad while driving, just like I heard when fighting to get the horn to stop. I have contacted my local dealer service department to see it this is covered under my warranty but of course they won't tell me that without running a $120 diagnostic, I told them I will not pay for diagnostics because all they need to do is contact Chrysler to find out what the problem it. Check the internet, mine is not the only Sebring with this problem. The other problem with this is that the airbag is intertwined with the horn problem and so fixing this problem runs in the area of $1,000. 00.

35 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2008

The horn in my 2006 Chrysler Sebring goes off constantly. I have been told it iis a defective horn assembly and I have to replace the entire steering wheel cover and airbag at a cost of $630 for the part plus labor. My car is only 2 years old and I have 44,000 on the car. There have been numerous complaints about this and Chrysler will do nothing to help me.
