Door problems of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Five problems related to door have been reported for the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Door problem

Failure Date: 05/22/2009

My right forearm was crushed when the driver's side power sliding door closed on it after encountering an obstruction (a lawn chair). I had pressed the button to open the door, reached around to put a drink in a cooler on the back seat floor, the door ran into a lawn chair and reversed, crushing my arm. Six days later, my arm is still horribly bruised and sore. I had someone take pictures to document this accident. The dealer didn't even know that the side doors have no safety sensors like on the power liftgate. The side power sliding doors should also have safety sensors! if it had been my 2 year old grandson, he'd be dead now!.

2 Door problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2008

My 2 year old son's fingers were severely bruised when the power sliding door closed and failed to detect the obstruction (his fingers) and reverse.

3 Door problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2005

My 2 year old son was exiting our Chrysler Town & Country van when he realized he had forgotten his dvd player in the car. I had already pressed the button to automatically close the door and when he reached in the door closed securely on his fingers. I had to manually open the door and get his fingers released from the door, which were smashed!!! we were promised when we purchased this vehicle that it had a sensor that would not allow for this kind of thing to happen. We have since looked at newer ones, and again have been guaranteed that this is the only minivan that promises to stop the door closing process if something is in it's way!!! with all of these promises, I have to say that when we contacted Chrysler about this, they sent out an inspector that took pictures of the minivan, and experienced not being able to get the door stopped himself. They mailed us a letter about a week or so later that said they were sorry for my childs injured hand, but if you read your owner's manual that it states to be careful when opening or closing the electric doors!!! we have heard of several other cases of this happening, and one was a child's head that got closed in the door. What do we have to do to prevent this from being more serious than a hand!!! Chrysler does not care as long as they're selling cars and putting safety hazards in fine print!!! unfortunately we do not know the exact date of the incident since it did happen 2 years ago, but as you can see we are still very upset about this!!!.

4 Door problem

The contact owns a 2005 Chrysler town and country. The contact stated that while the vehicle was turned off, the sliding doors would open without driver intent. The dealer stated that there were no complaints regarding the failure. The dealer removed the door sensor at the owners expense. The VIN was not available at when the complaint was filed. 5 Door problem

Dt consumer states that the automatic side passenger door on the vehicle opens and closes without being accessed to do so. The vehicle has been serviced twice, both times the service dealer stated there was nothing wrong with the vehicle.
