36 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2015

Incident with Chrysler Town & Country 2008 2/9/15 between 4:26-4:29 p. M. Driving slow after just having gotten a green light (25mph or less) hit a big bump in the road. Every light on the dashboard lit up and I felt the engine lose power. The van coasted for a couple seconds then seemed to gain power back. Went around a bend in the road slowly and the engine lost all power. It did not come back at all this time. I tried to use the turn signal to get turn into a parking lot. Signal did not work. Neither did power steering. I could not get van to turn into parking lot. There was a moving vehicle behind me and a parking lot full of cars to my left. I found the automatic brakes were not working. I turned the steering wheel hard to the right to avoid hitting an oncoming vehicle and thankfully the van coasted into a snow bank which stopped it from moving any farther. Turned on the hazard lights. I was able to get the van into park and make sure it really was not going anywhere. I took the keys out of the ignition and waited just under a minute. I decided to put the key back in the ignition and see if I could get the van to start. It started without any noticeable problems?! car ¿key attached to key ring with other keys. Did not receive a notice in the mail about recall. Looked up possible recalls after the fact and yes, there is one. And it is much more serious than Chrysler lets on. Tried to contact Chrysler by phone several times and can't get through. If this had happened in one of many other places I had been driving that day the accident could've been fatal.

37 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2015

The contact owns a 2008 Chrysler town and country. The contact stated that the traction control and the esp warning lights illuminated. The contact mentioned that when the warning lights unilluminated, the vehicle quickly decelerated and resumed to normal. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the steering angle sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000.

38 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2015

Within the first 10 to 15 minutes of driving the vehicle, the engine will shut off causing extremely hard steering and braking. There does not seem to be a pattern as to if I use the remote start or just the key. It does seem to happen more in cold weather than when the weather is warmer. This happens on the average of 3 to 5 times a week. After the engine cuts off and then re-started, there are no other cut offs until the vehicle sits for some period of time and started up again. This is so serious that my wife and daughter cannot drive the vehicle. I know that a recall has been issued but it has been several months and there is nothing (according to the dealer) that can be done so the vehicle can be driven safely! help please!!.

39 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2015

L25 recall. Ignition failed three times no parts to fix yet. No other keys on fob last time it turned off. Key is loose in the ignition (per the local Chrysler service mgr). Engine turned off three times while drive without touching the key. Happened three time at different speeds first time at 45 miles per hour car just stopped in the middle of the road. . Once faster, once slower. My 22 year old daughter was driving the car all three times. All the lights on the dash come on and she said the steering would not work and the brakes did not work. She called crying the first time from the middle of the road did not know what to do. Engine had stopped. (no codes showed on diagnostic computer when dealer charged for the diagnostic) she ended up in the middle of the road stopped. Engine did restart all three times. Local Chrysler dealer could not get to duplicate even though the said they drove car 4 or 5 times. (even though they said they drove it 4 or 5 times, no miles were put one the van while in the dealership. Even the $115 diagnostic charge from the dealership showed no miles were put on the van). They charged because they said they could not confirm it was the l25 recall which they have no parts to fix yet. The local Chrysler dealer said they ran a diagnostic for $115 that showed no computer codes which the service manager said sounds like the ignition recall symptoms, but still charged me because they could not get it to duplicate at the dealership. (I did not know a safety recall had to be duplicated to get work done without charging) the local chyrsler dealership said that it should be safe to keep driving, they could not find anything wrong with it. My 22 daughter is scared to death of the van but is having to keep driving it.

40 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/29/2014

Incident 1: 10/29/14 while driving with my child, the vehicle's engine shut off causing the vehicle to loose power brakes & steering function. Engine would not turn over. Vehicle towed for repair. Starter relay replaced. Incident 2: 11/28/14 while driving my two children, at a high rate of speed, on I-75, the vehicle's engine shut off causing the vehicle to loose power brakes & steering function. Engine would not turn over. Engine then turned over. Vehicle driven to owner's residence. 11/29/14 engine would not turn over. Vehicle towed to Chrysler dealership for inspection.

41 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2014

In December of 2013 my car ignition began shutting off while driving. First time I was going 45 mph. It happened 3 times last winter and stopped. Chrsyler issued an l25 recall 2 mo ago but no eta on parts still as of today. Key fob slipped to the accessory position while driving on 10/16 and 10/21 just recerntly while leaving the parking garage at my office. Garage is a bit bumpy like all and I have removed all keys from the fob per Chrysler instructions. They claim this happens at low speeds but it has happened to me going 45-50 mph last winter. On 10/21 I was going down the parking deck on an incline and the engine shut off. Someone was changing a flat tire in a parking spot at the end the ramp I was on and a car was behind me. I didn't know the engine has shut off until I go to brake and turn. I barely stopped in time so as not to hit the guy changing his tire and the person behind me almost slammed into me. Add to this the airbags become ineffective due to the power loss and I have no power steering or power brakes. I was about to turn at the bottom of the ramp when I realized I had no power. I could have killed the person in front and the person behind almost took me out. The frequency of this happening is increasing and Chrysler refuses to do anything. They told me today the recall is too big and they don't have the loaner cars to accomodate and Chrysler claims this only happens at low speeds on bumpy roads and the car is safe to drive. I have a special needs child who is always in the car with me and I'm always carpooling with my daughter's gymnastics team so I always have kids in my car going to performances. This is putting me and my family and other kids at risk. My car is not safe and Chrysler reffuses to do anything about this. I need a loaner car and quick. I drive to work 5 days a week for an hour each way plus all the other things I have to do to transport my kids.

42 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/19/2014

Car lost power streering and brakes, found out later there was a recall (l25). Brought to dealership in old saybrook, CT. Parts not available. Recall is for exactly the same symptoms we experienced. Called Chrysler for rental or other dealerships, told I was out of luck and out of warranty it is not a warranty issue it is a recall issue. They said park it or drive it. They say it is safe but it is not. If the engine turned off on the highway my kids would be dead. Its ridiculous that they have a safety recall and don't have the parts, they are open for huge liability there. Bottom line is I don't have a safe car due to their defect, and they wont do anything about it. Eta on repair part is not know by Chrysler.

43 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2014

Just purchased a used 2008 Chrysler Town & Country. It was taken to the shop for extensive maintenance, including the replacement of the hub bearing - front right with oem parts. Upon further inspection we ascertained that there is a recall for this part for the 2008 model year. Chrysler notification k19 states: "the front wheel bearings on your vehicle (VIN: xxxxxxx) may develop a growling or grinding noise. The bearing noise may increase or decrease during turning maneuvers. What your dealer will Chrysler will service your vehicle free of charge (parts and labor) well, it turns out that my vehicle VIN number is not included in the recall. Is there a reason for this? can you look into this? thank you.

44 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2014

The contact owns a 2008 Chrysler town and country. The contact stated that that when the key was turned to the off position, the vehicle remained on. In addition, the door locks, the wiper blades and the horn activated erroneously. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A recall notice for NHTSA campaign number 14v373000(electrical system) was received in may 2015. After contacting both the dealer and the manufacturer, the contact was informed that the parts needed to repair the vehicle were not available. In addition, the contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the steering wheel became very difficult to turn. The failure mileage was 50,000.

45 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2014

There is a recall on my vehicle. The parts have not been made. I received my notice in August, 2014. I have e-mailed them twice and the parts still have not been produced. Why????? my car "could cause unintended engine shut off and the passive restraint systems, including the airbags to shut off. This could increase the riskof a crash under certain conditions and increase the risk of occupant injury during a crash. ".

46 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/11/2014

Car stalls for no apparent reason causing me to lose driving functions like brakes and steering. Radio stays on. This happens about every two weeks.

47 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2014

My town and country is involved in the l25 recall. There have been several occasions where during operation, the key moves from the "on" position. This causes the vehicle to shut off and I am unable to steer or engage the brakes. I have contacted Chrysler several times about this and to receive an estimated time of when the parts will be available for repair. I contacted them today, 1/6/2015 to let them know that it happened again and I almost caused an accident on a major highway. I also requested for them to provide me with a safe vehicle to drive while waiting on the parts for repair due to the concern I had for the safety of my children and other drivers. They said that it was not possible because they did not know when the parts would be available. This disregard for the safety of my family and the public is unacceptable. I would like to be contacted and informed of other actions I can take so that injuries and/or deaths do not occur due to their failure to remedy this defect and refusal to provide me with temporary safe transportation.

48 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/25/2014

The vehicle has "shut off" while driving at moderate speeds (30-45 mph) 3 times within the past month. The most recent incident was June 25. The vehicle "shuts off" with no warning and no check engine light. I will have the vehcile checked for codes, on the off chance something has been stored. So far, I have been able to guide the vehcile to the side of the road and come to a stop. It appears that I still had steering and braking capabilities. I was able to put the vehcile in park, restart the vehicle, and travel on without incident the first two occurances. However, on June 25, the vehcile would not immediately restart. It did restart after several attempts. Unless thle condition repeats for the mechanic, the likelihood of their being able to diagnose the root cause is slim. Within the past week, there have been several times the vehcile has been difficult to start. The vehcile will turn on and then immediately turn itself off. Adding gas by depressing the fuel pedal does not affect the vehcile's ability to remain started. It still turns itself off. Thus far, I have been able to get the vehicle started eventually. This incident has occurred on both hot and cold start conditions.

49 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2014

While driving my car has turned off due to the recall on the win module over 6 times now. Thank god I was driving at a low speed on a side street each time. I lose all power and the vehicle completely turns off. I do not feel safe in this car. I hope your conscience can withstand possible crashes and people losing their lives because your piece of [xxx] company has had over a year to fix this and has not. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

50 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/16/2014

While driving back from work my vehicle turned off completely. It was rolling and I was unable to brake or turn the steering wheel. There was no power steering, no brakes, all the controls and lights were off. I was in the middle of the busy 4 lane street. I put my hazard lights on and moved over to the outside lane and ultimately was able to turn into the parking lot. I sat there for a while stunned by what happened. After a few minutes I tried to start the van. It did start and I was able to continue on my way home. Exactly the same situation occurred today, July 14, 2014. We also have been having issues with starting the van. After turning the key the van starts up and a few seconds later goes dead.

51 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2014

Van intermittently stalls at low speed unexpectedly. Gauges will fail at high speed, but has only died at low speeds. Occurs when cold outside. Must turn ignition off and on again to start. Sometimes must put in gear and back to park first.

52 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

I have had issues with stalling for months. Since February 2014, I have taken to local service center 3 times but they cannot fix it. Finally on may 1, 2014 after the vehicle stalled 2 times, I was involved in a collision. No injuries and the only damage was to my vehicle. Current estimate to repair the vehicle from the collision is $1700. There is no estimate to repair the stalling because there is no solution known to cause the stalling. Typical stall: while driving, the power steering gives out and then the brakes lock up. The vehicle has to be put into park after I attempt to safely stop. The key has to be turned all the way to off position before it will restart. Frequency is 1-4 times per week.

53 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/25/2014

While driving down a main road, the car suddenly shut down. Nothing worked. I could not break or steer as power steering went. The only thing that stayed on was the radio. Car slowly coasted and eventually stopped. My 2 young children were in the car, I have already told dealer about this and they said they could find nothing wrong but that it sounds like a key roll back issue. They told me if it happens while driving again I should turn key as it may have moved from on position to acc position due to a bump in the road. Turning the key did nothing. After the car stopped I attempted to restart car and everything worked except the malfunction indicator light stayed on. This is a serious issue and Chrysler service department did not seem to care when I called! then I begin researching and find that they recalled 2009 vehicles of the same make for the same problem!.

54 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/08/2014

Our van makes a grinding or rubbing noise coming from the front end/axles. It is especially noticeable when we are turning. It sounds like a fluttering/grinding of metal or some part that is revolving with the wheels as we drive.

55 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2014

While driving in residential area, van would completely shut off (stall) without notice. Radio/dvd would continue. Major problem with the shut off is that there is no power steering and the breaks would not work! it's happened multiple times. The next day the engine light came on. Took to the dealership and the only code was egr valve code. Technician did not connect it to the engine failure. After discussing with chryler, they felt that the egr valve does contribute to the engine failure at low speed.

56 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2014

While I am driving my 2008 Chrysler town and country it shuts off without warning. When this happens I am usually driving less than 35mph but it is very difficult to control the van due to a loss of power steering, electric, and gas control. I usually have to apply the brake, shift it in neutral, and wait for the engine to restart (which sometimes stalls for a few seconds). This is very concerning to me as a parent with 3 children who usually travel with me and it happens frequently--so far up to 6 times in 1 day.

57 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2014

I was driving on a NY highway at 60 mph when my car suddenly shut off and the ignition turned to the acc position. I had my child in the back seat and we narrowly escaped an accident. I brought the car to my Chrysler dealership and paid $800 for a clockspring which I was told would prevent this from happening again. It just happened again 3 weeks ago. This time I was in rush hour traffic and almost caused a multiple car collision. I had no control over steering wheel or brakes. The car completely shuts off. I called Chrysler and they said "wow, I never heard that before". Really?? because models 2009-present have been recalled for this exact issue yet you have no idea what I'm talking about. My car was at the dealership again for 11 days and I was told they don't know what the problem is either. I spent $900 on a rental for that waste of time. These 2008 cars need to be recalled before someone gets killed. I do believe it will happen soon because this is a scary situation to be in.

58 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2013

We're following up on our vehicle invoice and receipts sent to Chrysler customer assitance, p. O box 21-8007 auburn hills, mi 48321-8007. It has been over 3 months and we still haven't received the proper reimbursement for the recall. We should have received our payment within 60 days as documented in the recall notification. The recall # is l25/ NHTSA 14v-373 due to the frequency operated button ignition key which would cause the engine to shut off. Please contact us with the status or update to this recall.

59 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2013

Tl- the contact owns a 2008 Chrysler town and country. The contact stated that while driving at 15 mph, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was restarted. The traction control warning light illuminated . The failure occurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 65,000. Pp.

60 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2013

I have a Chrysler 2008 town and country with 66000 miles on it. While driving my van at approx 35 miles per hour the van suddenly flashed the electronic throttle control light, check engine light, and slippery condition light. The van lost the ability to press on the gas pedal and make it go. It continued to idle down the road, but the gas pedal made no difference on the speed I was going. I idled into a driveway, turned the van off, let it sit for approx 30 minutes, then restarted the van. The van started fine, but while driving it home it did the same thing. I idled the last 1/2 mile home to get the van in the driveway. The next morning I made a service appointment and drove the van to the dealership. It stopped running one time on the drive, which is approx 5 miles away from my house. I again had to stop the vehicle, put it in park, and restart the vehicle. The dealership called and said that it was a wire going to the electronic throttle control that needed to be repaired. I see that there was a service bulletin regarding this issue in the 2010 town and country and didn't know if the same bulletin applied to the 2008. I feel that this is a major safety issue as the van loses all ability to get up and go. Had I been driving on the highway when it lost all power I could have caused a major accident! within the past month we have also replaced the egr valve, the power steering fluid line, and the power harnesses on the door. They are now taking apart the engine because it is making a "lifter tapping" noise.

61 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2013

Tl- the contact owns a 2008 Chrysler town and country. The contact stated that the traction control warning lamp kept illuminating intermittently and the vehicle veer to the right as the power steering seized. The contact mentioned that excessive force was required to maneuver the vehicle. The contact was notified and included in NHTSA campaign id number: 11v139000 (electrical system). The dealer was notified of the failure and indicated that the part needed was not available to fix the failure. The contact constantly had to pull the vehicle over, turned the vehicle off and restarted the vehicle to reset the computer. Also, the contact was included in NHTSA campaign id number: 11v394000 (air bags) and was unable to determine when the part would become available to repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000. Pam.

62 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2013

Numerous times the car engine/ignition has shut off while driving. All power assist are then disabled. We have been lucky that so far each event has not been on freeway driving and we were able to sluggishly steer the car to the side of the road. We have filed this complaint with our dealer and with Chrysler but are still waiting for recall action. We have been told by our dealership (larry moore Chrysler-peoria , az. That the parts for our model year are not even available yet?? what happens if we are in an accident due to this defect?? seems unconscionable that Chrysler admits the problem (finally), puts out recalls, knows it is a huge safety issue and then is not prompt in settling the matter?.

63 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2012

1. While driving the esp indicator light and engine comes on and wheels automatically go into slow mode (as if I were on ice). I manually shut off button. Took it to dealer and said the coil in my steering module is bad, needs replacing. I complained of van having hard shifting in accel and decel. Fault code c1210-steering angle sensor 2. The engine light reports that I have a bad egr valve, needs replacing. Found code p1404 & code p0404.

64 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2012

While driving down a secondary road at appriximately 25 mph the motor shut down as well as power to the steering and brakes. Proceeded to coast down the road until a safe place was identified to turn off the road. Since power had cutoff steering and braking the vehicle was extremely difficulty. Stopped the vehicle safely and placed the shifter into park and turned the ignition to the off position. Restarted the vehicle with no indication of any further problems. Two months later the same problem occured but vehicle was traveling at 35 mph this time.

65 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2012

The engine just stalled with no warning. Had no power steering or brakes. Just pulled out of a parking lot where the car was sitting for a few hours. This is the third time this has done it.

66 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2012

Our 2008 Town & Country touring has begun shutting down while moving without warning. It has happened six times in 3 months at both lower speeds, and once going 60+ mph on a busy interstate. When it loses power, we lose steering and breaking power making it very difficult to control the vehicle. This is a very dangerous situation, particularly for a car normally filled with children. It also occasionally will stall every time you start it. Ours will throw no codes and no warning lights come on, so no one has been able to find the problem. The dealership claims no knowledge. This problem is discussed on multiple forums and going back only one year there are at least 7 other complaints of the same issue (odi id numbers: 10453837, 10452564, 10450629, 10441113, 10438800, 10428568 & 10422766) and many more dating past that. I know you all are probably very busy reviewing complaints, but Chrysler and NHTSA should not be waiting for some one to get in a serious accident before figuring this out becomes a priority.

67 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2011

Poor engineering on the hoses already had 4 hoses leak at crimps on cooling system and power steering system this should be a warranty recall with only 70,000 miles never seen anything like this.

68 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2010

The contact owns a 2008 Chrysler town and country. The contact received a recall notification for NHTSA campaign number: 14v373000 (electrical system). While driving 2 mph, the engine stalled, the steering seized, and the brakes locked. The contact was able to restart the vehicle after several attempts. The failure has occurred for the past four years. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was unknown.

69 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2009

Regarding safety recall: l25/NHTSA 14v-373 I have been complaining about this problem since 2008! since it is an intermittent problem, the service representatives at east hills Chrysler (greenvale, NY) ignored me. I was told repeatedly that there was no such problem. My car stalled several times when I was on NY expressways going approximately 55 mph, and on neighborhood roads going a range of 25 to 40. It happened to my 18 yr old daughter on the long island expressway when she was going 55. We and you are lucky no accident occurred and we were able to get to the side of the road. The car does not start properly either. The ignition does not catch unless the fobik is wiggled of the brakes and gas pedal are tapped repeatedly. I complained about this problem every time I took my car to the dealership over the last 6 years. Each time, I was given a different excuse. Now east hills has my car indefinitely because parts are on back order indefinitely. To boot, the loaner car was dirty, smells bad, windshield was smoky, one tire needed air, and the washer fluid was empty. I am not at all satisfied with this car or the east hills Chrysler dealership. Maybe someday, you will also acknowledge the brake system problem. For now, it's about time you acknowledged the ignition/fobik problem! we've known about the problem for years!.

70 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2008

Vehicle brought in several times to dealer because the vehicle pulls away from the crest of the road, no matter how slight the angle. Alignment is reportedly ok, vehicle still pulls. Dangerous situation in a curve causing me to steer in the opposite direction of the turn. There have been multiple attempts to align the vehicle but no attempt to inspect the suspension or steering components.
